Please no 😭 I will say the mountain fortress was beautiful regardless of being a "castle" type in that it was something new and refreshing. It had lovely architectural design because it was in the side of a mountain essentially and open and closed depending on display. Not just a castle or encampment...
I think there's a bunch of us that would love for that to be the case, given that Lego doesn't seem to want to produce those sets on their own initiative. It's only natural for the AFOLs to be designing and voting for the sets they can't seem to get from Lego via normal releases.
That is the only reason I hate the Lego community. Why do people have to complain about Lego? That is why I am like "Oh well you didn't get the set you wanted. Lego does not revolve around you."
exactly... castle sets are too popular for brick link sets and should be made into a line.... the mountain fortress is one everyone should have had good opportunity to get. the river boat is the perfect example of what a brick link should be, kind of quirky, fun and well made but not an essential set.

According to the Design Program FAQ, "We’re looking at a combination of the public reaction, as expressed by votes received during Crowd Validation, and the designer’s capabilities." Based on my professional judgment, I would have to guess that this translates to about 25% of the total decision comes down to fan vote. Possibly they use it as a way to weed out some of the lesser "stinkers" in the group. But I would go out in a limb and say that the fan vote CERTAINLY does not have a final say on which 5 finalists they select. End quote. I believe the title of my video made it quite clear that I do blame LEGO! I can add them using the BDP as their outlet for Castle themed sets to the list 📃

I get your point, however it's not just a train, it's a wild west train. And it's not just a siege encampment, it's a Black Falcon one which is one of their specialties and it has been since the eightees since we last got a BF siege engine, the catapult. Also it has a trebuchet which we never had before! So these are specialty sets which is awesome and fits the designer program imo.
I suppose that's where we fundamentally disagree in that everything you're describing screams "PLAYSET" to me, not high level of detail and designer skill, adult LEGO set
I sincerely hope that LEGO brings back a proper castle theme for the castle crazed folks, but I don't think the Bricklink Designer Program is the place for over usage of castles and army building 😪
I’m a big castle fan, and really like the seaside market. However, since originally seeing it on Lego ideas (and voting for it); we have received the lion knights’ castle, medieval town square, I have pieced together a castle in the forest, and I have a BDP mountain fortress on pre-order. So I’m just not in the market for this set anymore. I also like the siege encampment, but don’t love it, so will most likely skip it too.

I agree with your top 2 choices. I don't care for the train and the medieval sets. Also; 2 medieval sets in this selection seems off. There's no modern type set and I do think that's a mistake.
I'm not a huge Castle guy either, but I can imagine the appeal on those two sets could possibly be that they blend with the Castle series sets for the most part. Maybe they also want to make sure that some of the sets that make it through are affordable. I'm not really sure, but I only got the snack shack in the last round because of cost. If I had a big castle MOC, those accessories are kinda cool, though.😀 Also, I like the boat best, too.
You might be on to something with the cost effective angle! Essentially all of the Series' have some beasty sets, except this one. I may have to take a spin through the Series 4 submissions and see if there were any other standout mid-range part count sets! I just feel like even for the castle people, these sets are so basic 😢The Lion Knight's castle has more excitement to me! But we'll be able to see it unfold firsthand on pre-order day! But this does mean that my budget for the other Series' has increased
as a castle fan, I am so excited to get the seaside market. Ive always dreamed of expanding the lion knights castle to encircle a town with a port attached. and this set will help make it a reality. the simple unoriginal styling is exactly what a fan like me wants so that it fits in with the existing castle sets. I like to think that other people have the same intentions with the set, and this is why they chose it.
I can only imagine as the BDP continues to grow in popularity, and the Castle folks turn out, that the Seaside Castle set will likely sell out. But, as always, I look forward to tracking the sales data on preorder day. Can't believe that's almost a year away
I am a castle fan but seriously disheartened that LEGO is allowing all these castle sets through as if it has no plans for a major castle line and how the mountain fortress is going to be so rare and expensive, but is such a beautiful work of bricks it should have been made for all... A sea side market could be well done and half the size of this brick link design, and Lego needs to make 2-3 battle packs of siege stuff with some knights and horses for public release... it would be a waste to make a brick link designer out of any of these castle sets... I just hope the popularity of them gets them to make lego branded stuff that can be mass produced.

Everything else aside, the seaside market just makes zero sense. Why would they build castle walls like that? Are they trying to keep people in or out? There's no strategery! Which means the siege set also does not make any sense. Why would you need a trebuchet and siege tower when you could just knock down the tiny wooden front door? 😂
Fabu asking the real questions! At the end of the day, those feel like playsets that you would see on the shelf at Walmart/Target, and not a high level of creative designs that we've seen elsewhere from this program.
Overall I think these are pretty good sets, I personally wanted the Wild West train because it will go well with the general store I purchased from series 1 (same designer also) I think what would really improve the designer program would to be to select 6 sets instead of five. Having 3 medieval/fantasy sets is fine in my opinion but it would be better for people who want more options to have another set option. There definitely was some really cool stuff left out this series. I probably won’t purchase any of the series 2 and 3 stuff, but I’ll definitely be getting the Wild West train and maybe the siege encampment just because I think it’s cool.
There were so many medieval MOCs for this round. It was a surprise the market made it. I like the Riverside Scholars though it’s not my usual taste. It gives an anime RPG vibe that’s a nice change of pace compared to the more common medieval sets.
This is the FIRST train, no one counts that awful tiny thing on that stupid huge curved bridge that isnt strong enough to be used as a bridge, plus the curve on it means you cant fit track to it and use it. That logging train does not count because its so bad, so this one is our first train.
I have yet to do a deep dive into that set! But my initial thoughts when seeing it first revealed was simply, "meh". In seeing it in hand on various people's pages, it's grown on me a little bit, but ultimately idk if I could ever say yes to that $350 price tag.

It seems reasonable, but I haven't found any information that would imply 50 being the number that our votes actually influence. Just chill, there will be series 5,6+7 so there will be different sets after this. And if You're bored there is rebrickable with lots of awesome MOCs to build.
I can't keep my chill Kosty, I just CAN'T . But buying officially released sets is part of the hype and drive for me, otherwise there are way too many cool designs out there. I imagine you can appreciate that desire. But you are right, we have many more series to go, and that just means more $$$ can go to those instead of this one!
While I don't disagree with you that there are certainly people out there that would use these sets to build out their castles, I just don't think that the BLD program is the place to do it
yeah lego needs to revisit its roots and revive the castle line... the way the mountain fortress was gobbled up by resellers and double + the price is toxic to the actual people who want to build and enjoy lego. @@cpafol
Personally castle is selling like hot cakes and getting any unique castle sets that Lego would never create themselves is amazing. Give me more castle. I'll buy it alllllllll. That Mountain Fortress in series 1 sold out in under 3 hours!! I barely secured one.
It certainly is an absolutely gorgeous design! I praised it to no end in my coverage of Series 1! I love how it can open and close depending on the display needs, and being part of the landscape sold me on the idea. Which is what I believe some of these are lacking. Playability without fiddly little parts falling off all the time seems to be the goal this year and I am loving it!
Your bottom two are my top two. I love collecting castle theme sets though and army building with fantasy characters.
