Only when people like that had the power to dream (even if circumstances blocked there fulfilment) were old classic cars saved for posterity. Others just scrapped them when they became a nuisance. Kudos to the owner and many thanks for sharing Richard.
Ah, the Red, White and Blue! I remember my first ride as a boy in 1965. Our neighbor had a drophead XK-140 and after the ride I shyly picked up the beat-up old sisal floormat and was totally amazed to find a plywood floor underneath. Worth doing 15 push-ups every morning just to prepare oneself for the church-service of a ride. The clutch was also "for real men only!"
I bought a 1953 XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe in similar condition in 1974 for $450. It sat out in the back for many years before my father retired and had the time to put it back together. I was able to drive it to Pebble Beach Concours in 1991. Cruising down 17 Mile Drive enroute in a parade of classics was a drive of a lifetime. Heading north to Seattle through the Redwoods at 100 mph I was overtaken by a then new Porsche Turbo. The driver slowed, saluted, then disappeared in a whoosh into the distance. Memories worth sharing. The 120 is rolling sculpture.
Great to see these dead animals, be even better to see them brought back to life! Over the last 30 years I have been helping with the wooden parts for these machines I'm 65 years old now and don't have that much time or interest left but still have a shed full of patterns and jigs as well as a good collection of original bits and bobs for XK 120 140 and 150 variants. I say variants because I have original parts for the same model that vary by as much as 13/16ths from one to another. Some people say that the difference between a 120 and a 140 door is only in the depth of the cill (sill) and I have built many doors based on this premise so I guess it tends to be true. The most interesting job was building doors for the aluminium (spell checker changed it because I'm in the uk) aluminum bodied 120 doors. Man that top rail was a s.o.a b. start with a 5 by 4 cut a different compound angle at each end and then recess then shape that job is my worst nightmare I have made 4 of these and I am still not confident I can make another!
ok obviously this guy is not short of a dollar or two and is up there in the years , PLEASE restore these vehicles, you can't take you money with you and the truck is amazing. enjoy them while you can and then leave them to me :)
The only aluminium body XK 120 a ever saw was in a garage near Uraidla, South Australia, and it was in superb original condition. The Ash Wednesday bushfire was so hot that all that was left was the melted steel chassis standing in a silver puddle.. Even some of the engine block had melted. It was like a blast furnace. With the high heat, high wind and high ember load, the flames that funneled through that garage must have been enough to set the iron alight. Even the roofing iron was gone! It was the only time a car brought a tear to my eye. My favourite car of all time.
Just a great collection of super cars, thanks. I'll just go out to my garage and stare at my 1968 XKE with factory hard top & start her up for a good cruise. Love those smooth cam covers....talk about eye candy!
That is a superb collection and it was so good of Michael to allow us to see these wonderful pieces of automotive history . . . maybe one day they will be returned to their former glory which they most certainly deserve to be . .keep safe Michael, and the same for your cars.
Richard, when we think you've pulled one out of the bag you present us with this little teaser!!As l only joined you on line with "the junk e-type engine" l may have missed previous coverage of these 120's. It's not just the cars it's everything else Michael has collected. The pity is that you know this collection will never progress and will be sold off. If l win the lottery ( big time!) then l guess l'll have to buy the contents for you! That should keep you amused for some time! And one day my 2+2 WILL look like yours! Thank you Richard!
I would suggest he trade everything for one good running car that he can enjoy...although he didn't ask for my advice. But at least he has preserved them.
Very cool, thx Richard. Love the peace symbol on the back window of the coupe, and the chunks of tree on top of the 6X6, lol. That thing's insane (& looks like it could be made road worthy fairly easily :-)).
Just the first 200 alloy front wings were made by COOKS sheet metal workers Waterway Street? off Arkwright Street Nottingham .The workers came into mothers shop .Made me a toy truck .Best looking engine .All of us please look after what we have at this time.Clean refurbish and use.
Richard, Thanks for the video great to see the alloy body roadster what a collection as you know i have the 66 E Type OTS & the 58 XK 150 OTS, It‘s great to see more Jaguars uncovered i wonder how many there are around the world! Cheers Dave
Good for you. Years ago I met a chap whose nickname was "Happy" probably because he chose forgoing marriage for keeping his wealth, restoring old Jags ("Jags instead of Hags") and raising hunting dogs.
three pretty maids in a row, great sighting, thank you... a bit sadening that it has been sitting so long, I'm afraid some of these cars may eventually change hand for a future that may not be to their best interest... that's how thing go I guess, bit of a hoarder myself, though not that bad (and more eclectic).
I owned an ali XK120 (0046 the forty-sixth rhd) and sold it, fully restored in 1981 for AUD 12 000...the body's restoration cost $18 000, a dealer paid...
Did I hear right...had 12...then 6 but only showed 3. So where the other 3 In pieces??? BTW very nice find. I'm just guessing here, but most of us might say. "If I had the money I would go for it". Richard thank you for these videos.
Kinda sad they are stuck in a barn doing nothing. Wish I could take one and restore it. Had a toy model of one since I was a child. I have built lots of kit cars over the years and considered doing a replica but I don’t think it would tick the box for me when it comes to the 120.
But...whats the point??? wait till he dies of old age and the see who does what? why not restore them and either sell one to pay for the rest or just sell them all and start another collection?

Thanks John, you have the right idea. There is a bright future for these sleeping beauties.
Great treat. Thank you

Andreas, thanks for watching. Yes that fully mechanical clutch is a classic treat.
Fantastic
Wow , what a find..some day they will awake.
Got one in the shop already!
Extraordinary! Thanks Richard and Michael...it's like peeking at Blue Beards treasure chest!

We are just going through the motions now and getting the cars moved.

Great video. The alloy XK120 is worth a fortune. Thank you for sharing
Thanks very much Michael for allowing us into your 'inner sanctum' to see these treasures. I'm glad Richard could video these for us. Thanks again!

Put them back together and get them out on the road!
Very cool, thx Richard. Love the peace symbol on the back window of the coupe, and the chunks of tree on top of the 6X6, lol. That thing's insane (& looks like it could be made road worthy fairly easily :-)).
Nicely done, Richard! Really sorry I couldn't make it with you to meet Michael in person. Very interesting.
Stunning visit, wow... one wonders if he'll ever get round to doing anything with them? A not unknown scenario, they just collect and collect...

I’m restoring number 36 steel body 1950 XK120 that I purchased in pieces two months ago! Very timely video to keep me motivated
Good for you. Years ago I met a chap whose nickname was "Happy" probably because he chose forgoing marriage for keeping his wealth, restoring old Jags ("Jags instead of Hags") and raising hunting dogs.
Daryl Griffin so true! Already facing challenges with my wife about time in garage. It’s my first restoration so I am a bit overwhelmed!
Cool cars and old fella
I’m speechless
