I really doubt it, Unreal Engine is a pretty good graphic system but Unity just fits Genshin's design better, same for Honkai. I don't see why they'll change it, at least in my opinion.

If they ever change the engine, it’s going to have to be planned for well in advance. Porting any game, let alone one as massive as Genshin, from one engine to another is expensive and time-consuming and I can’t imagine an ongoing game with frequent updates doing that. Even if Hoyoverse had to pay some sort of additional fee to keep using Unity, it would hardly make a dent in their profits anyway. EDIT: The more I read about it, the more egregious it is. I would be seriously concerned if I was Hoyoverse.

@@saoirsecharalambous9607 I'm not sure where you're getting that figure - billions would be spent on what? Genshin makes profits in the millions, not billions, from each banner cycle. And considering the charge would only be on the initial install for each user, it's still cheaper for Hoyoverse to pay it rather than invest God-knows-how-much money changing their entire development pipeline.

From what I know one of the advantages of Unity is that it's easier to custom or have two different rendering pipelines. (I believe Genshin uses a rendering pipelines for characters and one for the rest), in Unreal I don't think you can have 2 different pipelines, I think that you can overwrite the single rendering pipeline present though.
If this it's true it'll be hard to recreate this very same already existing image on Unreal, and it'd be a shame, Genshin look really nice, it's not exactly the type of game that would benefit from a more realistic look.

Do you realize how... "impossible" it is to "switch" engines in a game as built as honkai?
Telling a game dev to "switch engines" is tantamount to telling a construction worker to "change the foundations" of a 100 story skyscraper while its in use.
It is simply not possible without rebuilding the game from ground up. UE doesn't even use the same programming language.

Imagine the muscle memory of rotations and game play to the micro second and then having a game engine swap happen. Regardless it probably cant be a simple copy paste and would need to be rebuilt so i doubt it would ever happen.
More so, is the price per DL for new users or even new patch DL....also what if you install and delete constantly...how does that then even work.
As far as the mod game looks. well its nice, but looks like its 30fps. During combat I bet it goes single digits.
I use nvidia game overlay and tweak my graphic settings to add contrast, shadow and remove that glowy bloom. So I am happy with this for now. Ray trace would be great though.

I don't think UE5 offers any graphical improvements given this design; however, there's no denying that should it prove legal or at least sufficiently uncontested the news from Unity could be a significant problem. Lack the figures to be sure how much of a financial bite this could be, but it does represent a tax on all accounts of all users, in some cases multiple times per account, and you could argue from the language that every patch for each game represents a new application of that tax for everyone. Based on my buying welkins, possibly a quarter of the money I spend in the hopes of this game continuing could now be owed to Unity - and that's not counting my share of the payments covering free-to-play players.
Even if they can pay it, it'll hurt. Contesting the legality of this may prove cheaper if a risk.

More calculations is not always better, especially with the extremely heavy amount of material preprocessing which is being done in this game's asset pipeline with constant emphasis on its performance on older hardware.
Fortunately, it now looks like the potential need to change engines isn't likely to materialize soon if ever, and this company's version of Unity is continually growing further away from the official product.

I also refreshed my memory of the previous results of hobbyists experimenting on displaying Genshin Impact assets on the UE5 engine. (It's been tried, albeit nonprofessionally; if the time and money was put into going back into the original art library and rebuilding all the game assets, a lot of the worse issues would be fixable.) @@nikhil3299 that it depends, Unreal is more on automated effects such as lighting, polygons and more. So it's more like unchecking/checking those autos and manually do those that cannot.
these autos will result to efficient time management, probably more device storage friendly and more tools to explore/implement.
and about the artstyle, it's a matter of shaders and design, so it can be a 1:1 port if they wanted to.
The cons are probably more time to port, more training expense etc.
but hey, who would want to work with higher risks especially those who can change the deal one-sidedly down the line.

  • @swrcPATCH

I like how everyone in this comments think they know the reason why these people will not switch from Unity to Unreal xD **hilarious**
The simple truth is: if a game is done there is no way to "swap" game engines. It is just that simple. It does not matter what you are trying to achieve, the technical effort to REMAKE (THERE IS NO "SWITCHING" ENGINES) an entire game in a different game engine is usually not worth...
Remakes of games are good example for actually remaking a game but in a different game engine.

And hoyo games are actually better on the Unity engine it just fits them so great

Hey impurfx, it's pronounced "you-nee-tee". I know English isn't your first language, so don't take it the wrong way ;)
Epic Games also charges devs for using Unreal Engine 3, 4 or 5 and from what I've heard, they take even more than what Unity is currently proposing, so yeah, ain't going to happen
Switching engines also usually raises the hardware requirements for running the game, which would inevitably mean that some travellers will be left behind, they'd either not be able play Genshin at all, or be stuck with an older version
