I just wanted to let you know that YOU are my hero!!! I keep watching your videos over and over to build confidence. This is the 1st year I have ever grown hot peppers from seed and I am so excited!!! I have obviously started a little late but next year I will start early. Thank you for sharing your love of peppers and your knowledge to help people like me do the same. Thanks again !!

Awesome video Mr. Starr! I have a suggestion for a quicker way of germinating.
Dampen a paper towel and put a few seeds on the paper towel then, fold the paper towel and put in a zip log bag in a warm place or window sill with sunlight. In a few days the roots will start to sprout.

I use a soldering iron and use it to burn holes into the bottoms of the solo cup. Works great, as you melt the plastic it makes a rigid think band around the hole. This way the opening is stronger, and doesn’t crack and tear in use. Makes good for reuse of the cup

You may want to use a small rock or something that will elevate the upper cup to the height you want, then a square cup becomes unnecessary for the elevation you desire.

One thing I like about your channel Khang is that your videos are unedited but still interesting. Also, you are very organized. I do almost the same thing as you for peppers except I use a refrigerator and tea. Have a good day!

THANK YOU! I planted at least 100 seeds in the garden in cups about 30 days ago. I didn't know at the time hot peppers needed warmer temps to germinate and nothing has been sprouting but weeds. I've watched other UA-cam videos but like your technique best and I might be able to save some of this years planting with the plastic bags...next year I'll do it your way from the start.

Khang Starr I thank you for all your unselfish work and you giving your time to help all of us learn your techniques for growing peppers. I have watched virtually every video that you have put out it's taken some time all of my bell type peppers are up and doing very well and now a few of my superhot have come up but nowhere near as many as I have planted I guess I just need to be more patient, everything I grow is being grown in my greenhouse it's not very big 30'x 15', and it is my goal to put the super hot in 5 gallon pots minimal. I have successfully overwintered two Bhut Jolokia from last season also two Habaneros and two Big Bertha bells, I use a fluorescent light system for my planting tables, which works very well for all my other vegetables I grow pretty much everything but I start all my plants and the 1020 flats peppers included is it possible that using the flats for my peppers are too small ? The cups are 2 3/4" deep but I notice you use those large solo cups do you think I should be doing likewise for my super hot peppers? Thank you again in advance

    • @KhangStarr

HI Alice. It's fine to use small containers for seedlings, but peppers do grow quick and will require much more space. Even with the solo cups I'm using, they will outgrow those in 2 months. What I do is cut them back to slow them down since I can't put them outside anytime soon.

I hope my success is similar to you. Eventually I am going to go outside to a Raised Garden I am building out of 2x10's 4 x 8 double high. I have Ghost, Carolina Reaper, Sarrano, Habenaro, and Jaholopeno I wand to grow a few of each. I also am going to grow Grape Tomatoes in Rubbermaid Tub by Hydroponics method. I also have a Aerogarden Bounty inside for lettuces. Thanks...

As always, you make the best videos, man. I was talking to a lady at Earl May who said she got so much of her knowledge from your videos. I told her I was making my first attempt using your non-circulating Kratky method. I've got a ton of sprouts still in the starter container, but I do have one Yellow Brain Strain already going the Kratky route. Unfortunately there isn't a hydroponic store within 45-50 miles, and I am impatient with ordering things online, so I made my own Net Cups with a dremmel from some plastic shot glasses. lol.
Keep up the good work man. Many of us feed off of the information you provide.

Planning on doing Scotch Bonnets, Thai Birds Eye, Aji Pineapple & Lemon, Cumari do Para, and some neutered Chinense (Zavory & Trinidad Perfume). Naturally, Yes, you will need to clean them. But it's free! so if you have one in your area, give them a call (gardening dept) before you drive up.

I know this is an old video but I'm looking to start trying to grow my own reapers using this method to start with and in time buy small pots and what not.
As far as storing them so they can germinate and grow, you said they must be in a warm place. Usually my home is a cool place but warmish. Anywhere between 67 and 75 degrees in the house. But to be on the safer side should I just buy a heat lamp and leave it on over the course of the week in a dark empty room I have to keep it at a constant temp? Or would I be okay simply leaving it by the kitchen window?

    • @MeThemUs

A heating mat should work. I think they should be between 70-80 degrees. This will also be my first time and from all of the videos I've watched, the people who started them inside placed them on a heating mat and under a grow light.
I'm going to experiment, I'll be trying the method he suggested and putting some outside, I live in south Florida, I think the heat will be good enough.

I usually remove the seeds from the pepper, then allow them to dry for a week, then store inside small ziploc bags used for coins. They will last this way for 2 season or even longer.

Why don't you use 3 cups? For the middle one, cut off the bottom completely leaving it open, so that would add a few centimetres in height to your pot, with minimal extra cost.

Should I add water to the bottom cup at the start,? Or just spray the top of the soil then when they start to grow the roots then add water to the bottom cups etc.?

Hi there Khang! A month ago I planted some jalapeño seeds. There were approximately 40 seeds in total, some of them I took from a few jalapeños I bought at the market and some from a garden store where I bought them in an little packet. NONE OF THEM SPROUTED. What did I do wrong? I thought of the soil I used but I planted some basil, cilantro and tomato using the same soil and they all sprouted beautifully. Conditions were the same for all seeds. I even left some seeds planted in my mom's house where climate it's colder (21-24ºC) than where I live (26-30ºC) and again, only the basil, cilantro and tomato sprouted. Second question is: do pepper plants grow, bear fruits and then die? Sorry for my English and thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me. Love your videos!

Did you take seeds from a Red Jalapeno or green? Peppers do not like after they bear fruits, many varieties can live up to 3-4 years.

I took them from a green jalapeño. The rest of the seeds I took them from the packet I bought at the gardening store.

Bryan Orea Try to take a mature Jalapeno, and let it sit at room temperature until it turns completely red. Take the seeds out of the red fruit and allow the seeds to dry for a week, then plant those. They will sprout. Here's a video ua-cam.com/video/uBCkuLuF1wM/v-deo.html

he generally doesn't reply, i've asked questions and gotten nothing, from my gardening experience keep the top covered and keep it nice and warm until your plant sprouts once you see the first set of leaves breach take the covering off because the plant will need a circulation of oxygen.

Hi and thank you for your great videos. Actually, i'm growing peppers after watching your videos. I hope if you could help me as I have reached to a big big problem. After growing my pepper to this stage( little big leaves) I put them in front of my window which is southern and their leaves are getting shriveld day by day. It seemes that they are too weak to this heat. What should I do about it my friend?

What kind of hydroponic nutrients did you use and how did you mix them? Can you make a video on how to use them for my peppers. I am trying to follow using the double cup method like you did on your 2017 in episode 2
