- Paul Rogers is Emeritus Professor of Peace Studies and one of the world's leading experts on war. This is a devastating interview which draws on what's happening on the ground and other precedents - like Iraq and Afghanistan - which exposes why Israel cannot win this.

How can a supporter of Azov that parrots Hasbara (like pretending that light arms that Hamas had were capable of melting people in their cars or doing structural damage to cement buildings) claim to be fighting pro-war voices when he parrots their nonsense continuously?
Owen, as an Israeli, I've really been enjoying all your videos related to this current "war". I'm probably one of the very few Israelis willing to listen to different perspectives on what's happening. Obviously everything here (in Israel) on the news is "We're winning, everything is going as planned", whereas non-Israeli media sources are actually showing the nuances. I'd love if you could interview more ex-IDF soldiers and peace activists to get a perspective that's really hard to find here.
Thanks and continue your great work!

The problem is certain people intentionally conflating pro Palestinian protests with being pro Hamas and thus automatically being labelled anti semitic. Its just a ploy to stifle criticism and open debate. People are being forced to take sides when its far more nuanced.

I found this to be a terrific interview. When Owen made inciting claims that he had no way of verifying, they were expertly sidestepped by this guest without losing momentum while valuing Owen's person.
How can you bring justice for the children and citizens of Gaza by supporting Hamas?
Because they are fighting for the freedom of the children of Gaza!
You completely skip the issue at hand. Western Palestine, Gaza, was freed 18 years, ago when Israel withdrew. Hamas has been rocketing Israel ever since. Hamas is responsible for their own children's deaths. They educate their own kids to be suicide martyrs, they complain when Israel retaliates. Their mission is to kill. Ours is not. It is collateral damage. They proved themselves as indiscriminate animals on Oct 7. No other country in the world would hezitate to react as did Israel.

Hamas' 7/10 attack reflects Algeria's 01/11/1954 attack on the french which, after hundreds of thousands of algerians killed, brought international attention to the colonization in addition to the defeat of french forces in the guerrilla battles.
As the French retaliation got more brutal, more and more Algerians started turning against the french government and the FLN got more support. As the years passed, even the french public turned against the colonization. All this lead to the eventual inevitable end of a 132 years long occupation and genocide.
Also like the hamas attack, the Algerian attack happened in a french holiday. There are many similarities which point to the inevitable end of occupation of Palestine, unless of course, the US chooses to follow israel's WW3 path.
Edit: some said that the difference is the FLN attack didn't happen within frances borders. Wrong, there was no Algeria at the time because Algerian land got completely annexed by france and became france proper.
So yes, the FLN attack happened within france and was widely labeled as a "terrorist" attack. Hmm, familiar.
That’s an interesting observation. I hadn’t thought of that. I guess one of the differences in this situation was that they crossed the border, whereas the battle of Algiers and subsequent battles took place within the borders of Algeria. Perhaps that seems like a small detail but I think from a symbolic perspective, especially vis-à-vis an world w is largely ignorant of the history of this region, Or am I just talking about people in the US. I pray that you are correct. But from what I can see this is a different situation entirely. They’re leveling the place and there will be nowhere to return to. It might not even be livable for the captors. Pure insanity
One big difference: the French living in Algeria (the so-called pieds noirs) had somewhere to go - the metropole, France.
Israelis who have known no other country, whose parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents were born there have nowhere to go, therefore they will fight to the bitter end - and, don’t forget, they have nuclear weapons.
The difference is that the French had their home country to which to return. The Israelis have nowhere else to go, so they have to fight until the last one falls.
@@simonstuddert-kennedy8854nearly half of Israelis are dual citizens. They can go back to the 109 countries they crawled out of. It’s Palestinians who have nowhere to go but THEIR land.
@@simonstuddert-kennedy8854 That's incorrect, they can all go to the U.S and other countries that funded their existence, and of course their original roots in Poland and Ukraine.
Would the right wing coalition have been able to gain and maintain control without the "unconditional support" of the United States? Providing such significant military assets and political cover to the Israeli government may have tended to encourage a more aggressive militant approach to both domestic or external threats.
Most of all this horror could not have happened without US and EU support and ongoing billions.
It's not just the weapons. Because of the infusions of cash from the US, their citizens have a higher standard of living than they would in other countries. Settlers get even more perks.
