If you totally clean up and repair a rusted part, then powder coat all sides. Will that stop it from rusting any further, or again? I have a 2001 Titan that is showing some minor rust and would like to stop it dead in it's tracks!
Your work is beyond incredible, I can’t wait for my pieces to get to you. Once I located you, there was no doubt in my mind I wanted you to work on my pieces.
I rolled into v2. I decided that the money I put into the project to begin with was money I was ok with losing. Fudders are the only reason we are in the current predicament. Lets weed out the week and build it back up to what it once was.
Hi Dan, tail gate looks great. unfortunately I have another problem, I coated some rims blue came out great then put a clear and they came out with pin holes. Can you tell me why? I think it may be to light on clear powder not sure. Thanks again for your time. Jeff
Not sure it was over a few days when I had a second to breathe.....unfortunately the truck has sat ever since....hope to get back to it as the temps climb.
First thing. It looks Great. My self, I come from a paint background, and have a few questions having never dealt with powder coating before. I'm assuming the vinyl is high temp of some kind, I've never looked into it. what kind do you use? Do the lines remain crisp when you peel the vinyl off? From what I can see on the video they look perfect. And can clear powder coat be wet sanded and buffed to remove orange peel? Thanks for putting this out. As soon as I get my setup done, This has opened me to all kinds of possibilities as to what can be done.
The tailgate looks awesome could you powder coat the whole truck or is that possible it would look pretty cool if you could pretty sure it’s not possible super big oven
I'm wondering about this too, I did a vinyl masking for a powder coat job last week and had major issues with the amount of adhesive left behind. I was thinking I could use Toluene or Xylene to remove it but I don't want to hurt the finish of the surrounding paint.

hi, im looking to buy a plotter and vinyl paper...but I have no clue on where and what too get. could you tell us a bit about the machine and where you buy your paper and stuff? thx a lot..looking forward seeing the S10 finished!
You missed a spot, top left corner. Although I will say before watching the end result, if you were going for the red print which would have required the the gate to be light coated red, then the vinyl with the top coat, not quite finished in the oven, but warm enough to pull away the vinyl. We don't call those dental tools, we call them weeding tools in the vinyl industry. Over all, great job. Let's see what it looks like out of the oven. Xyloff or VLR are used to remove the adhesive residues.
I 3D printed flexible (TPU) jaws to go in a crescent wrench for this task. Could also do inserts in a couple of sizes up for a socket. Cheap cheat method is to use thin foam tape or a few layers of electrical tape on a wrench or socket. I go the nearest next size up, like for a 6mm (.236”) I’ll use a 1/4” wrench. You don’t want to oversize too much or you’ll round-off the corners - which is why I prefer the padded crescent wrench jaws. Another hillbilly option is to use a piece of very thin old t-shirt (i save them for throwaway rags) or even that blue shop towel style paper towel. They do also sell padded jaws for channellocks, and Kobalt has a soft jaw adjustable wrench but I hate that style tool. If you don’t need much torque even a cheap kids plastic toy set crescent wrench works. And I just had a silly idea. Why haven’t I powder coated a crescent wrench yet?!? You could still use a strip of electrical tape to keep it from scuffing, but that might work.
Just a tip.. You shouldn't tear your vinyl release liner (backing paper).. it will leave small fibers on the adhesive.. You should use scissors or a knife...
@@savage6394 The "clear vinyl" is actually transfer paper. I was talking about the RELEASE LINER. If you don't know what the different items are,, it probably doesn't matter to you..
@@twistedhillbilly6157 you must not be at all familiar with powder coating. If any “small fibers” were to make their way off of the RELEASE LINER it would be of NO concern. I like the way you film your videos. It sort of makes me feel like I'm there hanging out and just spectating. Thanks for all the helpful hints.
seeing these engine covers takes me back use to paint all the Corvette engine covers and Cadillac torch red and sport silver what a blast in the past
Great video. Powdercoating myself. A bunch of dirtbike parts. Love from sweden👍
Nice job Dan

Great video as always .
I can't wait to see you do the rest of the pickup. That colour is amazing
nice job Dan,can't wait to see how you do the cab without complete strip
Oh no its a complete strip
thats seriously impressive looking. great job
Amazing. Keep up the great work.
Do you suggest Hi-Temp vinyl for this, or will any removeable vinyl work? Thanks again Love the channel!
hey, thanks for all your vids. I don't know if you're aware but some of your videos seem to have low audio on the right-hand side.

How do you get your second coats to stick so nice I'm guessing we don't have a good ground but i love watching your videos
Nice Job!!!!! What do you use for clearcoat?
How about the adhesive left over by the stickers? When topped with powder does it make bubbles or pin holes? Hope you'll notice.
We didnt have an issues with that. Perhaps heating it up a bit helped.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge so openly. How long roughly did it take to do this tailgate start to finish? One full day or perhaps more?

We have a 40’ oven in Houston TX that’d work for that 😉

I own a powder coating shop as well. Use Naptha to remove sticky residue and won't hurt the powder
Does the clear coat completely fill in where the decals were pulled off so it completely looks smooth ?

Was the black fully baked before you put on the vinyl? I can't remember.
LOVE the color, great job and thanks again for sharing your journey with us!
Nope just in the oven for 5 to 10 mins.
So just barely flowed out. Awesome
@RightNowPowderCoating what's the starting bake temp?
How do you deal with adhesive residue what do you use to take it off
How do you keep you parts, racks, and hooks grounded? I assume your gun is electrically charging the powder
How did you end up getting the adhesive off
What vinyl are you using???
Can you use a regular socket to tighten a powder coated nut/bolt without chipping it? Or is it special sockets and wrenches for it?

How do you avoid orange peel in flat panels ? Awesome job
Luck, lol. Its practice, getting right distance from part, right spray pattern, right mils ect. Some powder just wont lay smooth.
nice job
Thanks!
Are you sure you like that color blue?…. Looks super. Is your plan to powder the entire truck?
I do like that blue....and that's all that matters since it's my truck lol. Yes, whole truck....hopefully soon as I get power to my new shop.
Can I ask what vinyl you use ?
Is that automotive paint primer, or powdercoating primer?
Powder price

Why would that matter? The clear Vinyl was only used as a Medium to Hold the spacing.

Its just like a basic sign vinyl.
How did you deal with the glue residue that was left over?
Just kept rubbing at it with my rubber glove and it came off.
