as a Ranger fan, i think the cup final was a lot closer than people made it out to be. 3 games went to overtime, and the rangers gave up countless leads. not to mention there were some iffy calls in the final including dwight king's goalie interference that wasn't called. people don't really get that the rangers could've won this series 4-1 if they won those overtimes. This final stung for a while and it still does.
Clearly Price has a reputation for folding in the playoffs because his leg folded the wrong way after Krieder kamikazed into it. I'm quite sure that's what THG meant here.
I think lundqvist is a top 10 goalie of all time. Maybe a little biased as a Rangers fan but without him the Rangers wouldn’t have been anything the past 10 or so years
I agree he should be top 10, probably around 8 or 9 (maybe 7 but I feel like that might be reaching too far) rather than 6 or 7. Hank is my favorite player of all time but there's been alot of great goalies in the NHL.
@ M B I like your inclusion of Dryden in your top 5. Not sure I'd have him there myself (like THG I'm iffy ranking guys from eras I didn't witness live), but I do think he gets dismissed as a product of being on a powerhouse team too much. Montreal won five cups in 7 years from '73 to '79. In the two years they didn't win it, Dryden had quit hockey to become a lawyer. Coincidence? I'd counter argue the Broad Street Bullies cup run might never have happened had Dryden not quit. Dryden retired after '79 and the Habs dynasty cup run ended there too, coincidentally.
in my opinion I think martin st. Louis was the real reason the rangers got this far. When Pittsburgh went up 3-1 in the series st louis mother died unexpectedly. The rangers rallied around him. One of my favorite memories from the playoffs was when st louis scored a goal on mothers day only a couple days after his mothers passing to force a game 7 on the penguins.
The fact that we have discussions about where henrik places in goalies all time kinda shows you that he really is that good. Too bad he’s never had a team that could help him win that cup but I hope to god he will
The Rangers-Kings series was closer than people think. Sure, it was a 4-1 series but 3 of LA's wins were in overtime and the Rangers led in each of those games. I think they led by 2 in both games 1 and 2.
If you watch the highlights on the final against LA. The Rangers could have won the series. They had plenty of chances in overtime and in regulation to win the game. I think the turning point in the series was Dwight Kings goalie interference in game 2 that resulted in a goal. Rangers were up 4-2 at the time with 18 minutes left in the 3rd period. They end up losing 5-4 in double OT. There was also another interference that wasn't called in game 5 when the Rangers were up by a goal, and they end up losing that one in OT too. Take away those 2 goals and it's probably 3-2 Rangers going back to MSG for game 6. Chris Kreider missed the net on at least 5 breakaways in the series, and Justin Williams only turns up in the playoffs.
Puck was already in the net when "interference" happened! And there was not 2 goal lead in the 5th game. Boyle scored SHG to made it 2:1. If there was any turning point, it was on NYR side not been able to hold on the two goal lead! And remember, if not for two puck stops on the goal line, LA would have raised the cup after game 4 in NY!
Watch the replays and slow it down. Contact had already been made with Lundqvist before the puck reached the net, Dwight Kings skates were both already in the air. The officials even came out afterwards and said they missed the call.
Paul it’s hard to see if there is contact but King’s positioning inside the crease is preventing Lundqvist from establishing his position and to make the saves
The real final this year was game 7 between Hawks and Kings. Overtime loss determined a Kings cup win and was so sad to see Hawks not get back to cup that year :(
Besides the first couple games. Say what you want henrik folded against the penguins in the first few games then stole the last few to eliminate them as price could’ve done if Krieder didn’t run him.
MINUTIA wasn’t sure if it was game 1 or 2 but I did watch the whole series. St Louis was possessed in that habs series but taking them to 6 games with Dustin Tokarski (who played well at times) was impressive. Whether or not they beat LA makes no difference, the Rangers didn’t and here we are talking about them.
SHANNON CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE YOUR RANKING OF THE DRAFT PICKS OF THE LAST TEN YEARS AGAIN?! I just watched them all and it’s so cool to watch that because you see ow easily and how much things can change in only a year. Please make the videos!!
Not a rangers fan but man the game winner by Martinez is one of the most Exciting / Heartbreaking moments you'll see. Especially the video with the Netcam with Lundqvist defeated. Man i hope somehow someway he can get a cup. He has so many sad losses, this one and against NJ in 12'
A lot of people forget Steve Mason played really well in the first round series. The problem for Philly was that he was hurt for the first 3 games of the series. As a Flyers fan that series hurt because I think Philly may have been able to make a bit of a run that year.
That year, I got to watch the Rangers practice in Banff, AB as they held a part of their training camp there. I had a picture taken with "King Henrik".
At least the NYR recognizes when they need to rebuild. Unlike Montreal who has a huge identity crisis currently. Are they a contender? Have they fallen from grace? Who knows! Montreal's players aren't playing to their potential and Montreal's ownership consistently makes bad decisions.
Shannon, I love watching your videos and your passion for the game of Hockey, but I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't remember that Price was injured in Game 1 of the Eastern final vs the Rangers. Lol
Those overtime games in the finals took years off of my life. So many posts hit and missed shots. Also, Rangers gave up 2 goal leads in Games 1 & 2. A deceptively close series that could’ve been closer if they gave Hank more goal support
I remember watching the finals in my army barracks and everyone in there cheering for them. It was the best chance for Lundqvist to win the cup and that game 5 loss still stings to this day.
You forget that St. Louis got the team on his back and they rallied around him after his mom tragically passed away on mother’s game really the only series I’m not upset over losing as a pens fan
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) possibly, but I remember the rangers overall outplaying the habs that series and had more games where the rangers outshot the habs then vice versa
M B I know that, but you just changed the narrative of the whole discussion. It’s not about us not winning it all, it’s about the rangers being able to deal with Montreal that’s all
To this day i'm still amazed how Rangers let Stralman walk away, and traded Hagelin. Four years after this finals there are only three players left that played in the 2014 finals.
The Derrick Pouliot part 😂😂😂 that was hilarious but you caught it. He was kind of a bust on the Pens but seems to have put together some good games as a Canuck this past season. Great vid and content as usual!
As a Ranger fan, I was heartbroken way worse in 2015 than in 2014. Our SCF run was kind of a surprise fluke. Nobody expected the 3-1 comeback and it was just a nice run. The Final should've gone a lot longer than it did but the Kings lasted longer in OT and had the refs in their back pocket. 2015 was much more hyped and IMO that's the year we should've won. President's Trophy winners, better roster, we knew we could come back from 3-1 against the Caps, and that Game 7 at home should've been ours. If Zucc didn't take a puck to the head I firmly believe we could've edged the Bolts, gone up against the inferior Blackhawks team, and finally won the Cup. But Hank's window is closed and won't be open again until at least 2021 if he can even last that long
He had allowed 4 goals in 20 shots in that game. He didn't have a great playoff that season. The Habs haven't exactly helped him, but his playoff stats don't equal his contract which kicks in on July 1st.
2 of those goals came after the krieder hit though. It was in 2017 when he was outduel by Lundqvist. 2014 was like the one playoff year where price was generally decent enough and solid when it mattered (like game 6 and 7 vs Boston). Most other years though he was either bad, or just okay, content on being the second best goalie in a series.
Personally I think his best chance at a cup was in 2015 when the Rangers won the President's trophy and suprisingly lost game 7 to tampa in the ECF. I thought they had the cup in the bag that year.
I was in shock when this team beat the Penguins. That Pens team was honestly better but King Henrik brought them a W. I’m honestly not surprised the Rangers lost to the Kings though.
What would have happened if Carl Hagelin had scored the winning goal on his breakaway late in game 1? Would that have given them the strength or energy to overcome the Kings?
wasnt this when kreider ran price over in game1? pretty sure it was this year because i have fond memories of my dad cussin out the tv when it happened
Rharriscaps70 I’d hope so. But we don’t have the heindsight of saying, oh look this team would win soon after or this team blew its best chance with that core.
Henrik Lundqvist would likely need to go elsewhere if he's going to get a Stanley Cup ring. Closest he'll get as a Ranger especially with how the team is going now.
Price got hurt in game 1 and didn’t play again the rest of the series. I’m also a diehard habs fan so I’m a little hurt right now. I’ll get over it tho. Maybe. ;)
Speaking as a rangers fan that 2012 team was better. And if we got a few bounces in those ot games we aren't even talking about the rangers in this series of videos. It's truly a shame such a fantastic hof goalie like Henrik won't have his name on lord Stanley.
As a die hard rangers fan I sometimes think that run we went on was too much too soon it was a new head coach new system things like that take at least a full year before we go on a deep run just my opinion
Price didnt even play against the rangers. Not saying they would've won if they had him but he would've made a huge difference not only in goaltending but the habs would have been more confident and maybe would've taken the series to 7.

"I don't know how they got there" Lundqvist there's your answer also it's hysterical Ranger fans blame the refs in the finals when they were dominated from puck drop every single game Lundqvist kept it from being a sweep
Price did not even play in the Conference final after game one...how can you tell that he folded? And for Rags fan saying they wouldve won even if Price was in net youre so dilusional. Price was so hot in those playoffs and the fact that he got injured changed the momentum of this series. It was still in 6 games even with the best habs player out. Youd have to think with Price it goes at least to 7 games and in 7 games you never know. Tokarski played good dont get me wrong but its not Price. At this point, when Price stepped in front of the net, the other team was intimidated by his presence. The teamates of Price did not play the same way if Tokarski was in net. Stop lying to yourselfs the only reason you won was because of Kreider sliding into Price's knee. If McDavid gets injured for Edmonton in the playoffs they dont stand a chance against any team and it was kind of comparable with what Price brings to the habs.
What do you mean out-dueled??? Krider wrecking prices knee in game one = out duel. No way jose. To me if that did not happened... I can't see the rangers winning that serie. It was MTL's year hands down. I still think LA would win the cup regardless.
It was the pivotal moment of the serie. What a shame it happened so early. MTL without Carey is simply painful to watch. The difference is day and night. It's durring those moment you can truly appreciate how a goalie can be so transcending to a team's confidence. What a shame.. That year was the destiny rematch LAK-MTL from 93. Only the Kings would win that rematch. Kreider changed history.
Price got knee slid by Kreider in game 1 and broke his leg. They had to use Tokarski for the rest of the series. He wasn’t even bad, just the Habs couldnt score. The 2017 series was a better representation of prices choking
He didn't injure shit. The same thing happenes to Hank and happened to him this year and had no injury. He knew he was gonna lose when he got pulled in the 4-1 goal
as a Ranger fan, i think the cup final was a lot closer than people made it out to be. 3 games went to overtime, and the rangers gave up countless leads. not to mention there were some iffy calls in the final including dwight king's goalie interference that wasn't called. people don't really get that the rangers could've won this series 4-1 if they won those overtimes. This final stung for a while and it still does.
Ignition Hockey Thanks to AV playing "protect the lead" in the 3rd period. Same shit happened vs the Sens last year. Glad he's gone
not to mention the ridiculous amount of posts the rangers hit
Zach Helfant I remember watching brad Richards hit the post at least 5 times a game.. had me like🙃
Lots and lots of questionable officiating.
Close only because of Lundqvist face it the Rangers got DOMINATED every game it should of been a sweep
Price was injured in game one
thesnack he faked it knowing he was still gonna lose
proof of why kreider is the most clutch player on the team
because kreider is a dirty player.
Clearly Price has a reputation for folding in the playoffs because his leg folded the wrong way after Krieder kamikazed into it. I'm quite sure that's what THG meant here.
Imagine being dumb enough to think that
I think lundqvist is a top 10 goalie of all time. Maybe a little biased as a Rangers fan but without him the Rangers wouldn’t have been anything the past 10 or so years
Agree
Agreed
I’d put him top 5 at the end of his career
I agree he should be top 10, probably around 8 or 9 (maybe 7 but I feel like that might be reaching too far) rather than 6 or 7. Hank is my favorite player of all time but there's been alot of great goalies in the NHL.

hockeyboss 689 I agree with that whole statement!
it's a false narrative, the rangers won because the pens lacked depth, had horrible coaching, and crosby was hurt
MikeG82 lol that pens team was way better the that rangers team he had it 100% right
bruins boy - make me
miles - if they were "way better" they would've won, everything i said was fact, everything he said was opinion
The fact that we have discussions about where henrik places in goalies all time kinda shows you that he really is that good. Too bad he’s never had a team that could help him win that cup but I hope to god he will
Preach!
The Rangers-Kings series was closer than people think.
Sure, it was a 4-1 series but 3 of LA's wins were in overtime and the Rangers led in each of those games. I think they led by 2 in both games 1 and 2.
Been waiting for this as a ranger fan
Yep. This hurt.
Every time I hear the word Martinez I want to die. It’s sad because there are 3 kids in my school with the last name Martinez
And they always use that pic of Henrik sprawled out on the ice for thumbnails and stuff. Pisses me off.
If you watch the highlights on the final against LA. The Rangers could have won the series. They had plenty of chances in overtime and in regulation to win the game. MakeNYRoviGR8-8Again already doing what?
Ryan Gill Steeling games. He was the only reason it wasn't a sweep if you couldn't tell

Have you seen what came out about Mike Hoffman's girlfriend harassing Erik Karlsson and his family?
Henrik and St.Louis carried this team
That year, I got to watch the Rangers practice in Banff, AB as they held a part of their training camp there. I had a picture taken with "King Henrik".
Rangers won game 4 against the Habs in OT. St Louis scored the winner
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) ok bud we beat you again last year. Canadiens fans are so delusional
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) The Rangers outshot the Habs that game by 17 shots lmao Habs suck
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) Kreider was taken down by a Habs player so it’s your own teams fault
M B Lol. Nobody is bragging. I’d just rather not have a general manager who doesn’t do his job.
Lol
This is why we need a Franchise Center, Defenseman and Goalie after Lundqvist to actually win a cup
Yankees 2018 At least you have the Yankees.
The Real Jay Stone idc about baseball as much as i care about hockey the Yankees have won enough Rangers need to add it up
Yankees 2018 “idc about baseball”
Yet, you have your Yankees profile pic 😂
The Real Jay Stone shows how much I love hockey lmao it’s in season
well, the rags have shestyorkin, so they're 1/3 there.
wasn't carey price injured in the 2014 conference finals?
Michael Dykstra yes he was
What a great year it was to be a Rangers fan. Hopefully a Cup run like that will happen again.
So sad for my rangers...
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) Gallagher slid into Lundquist last year the same year, saw no complains
Kreider's slide wasn't intentional, get over it. Also Price wouldn't have carried you to victory as much as I do love Price.
You're like the little brother who just swears that you broke his G.I. Joe on purpose...35 years ago.
You’re right it was extremely heartbreaking for me to watch. That finals was rough
Shannon, you should do another 2014 Finalists video for the Blackhawks. That year, the WCF really were the Stanley Cup Finals
Lundqvist>Price
No
in 11 seasons Carey price has 4 seasons with a sv% under .915, In 13 seasons Lundqvist only has 2
I remember game six against Montreal and that arm save by lundqvist. It was amazing.
Great run i watched this entire playoffs-they nearly got it done.
You forget that St. Louis got the team on his back and they rallied around him after his mom tragically passed away on mother’s game really the only series I’m not upset over losing as a pens fan
Price only played half the 1st game
Then we beat them again 3 years later proving it was no fluke that we beat them again
I hate kreider
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) you had the better record both times and still beat you both times though
Justin Chamie - Lorne Park SS (2252) possibly, but I remember the rangers overall outplaying the habs that series and had more games where the rangers outshot the habs then vice versa
M B I know that, but you just changed the narrative of the whole discussion. It’s not about us not winning it all, it’s about the rangers being able to deal with Montreal that’s all
Do a video on the career of Martin St Louis.
To this day i'm still amazed how Rangers let Stralman walk away, and traded Hagelin. Four years after this finals there are only three players left that played in the 2014 finals.
Lundqvist is gunna come back and pull an Ovi
M B honestly ever since Vegas pulled what they did, I can’t rule out anything at this point lol
But Hank's window is closed and won't be open again until at least 2021 if he can even last that long
King Henrik played his heart out in the last two games against the Kings, but it wasn't enough.
This team deserved a Cup, and was so so close.
Glad you finally did NYR, now you gotta do the 94 Rangers
Carey was injured in 2014 against the rangers btw
He had allowed 4 goals in 20 shots in that game. He didn't have a great playoff that season. The Habs haven't exactly helped him, but his playoff stats don't equal his contract which kicks in on July 1st.

What would have happened if Carl Hagelin had scored the winning goal on his breakaway late in game 1? Would that have given them the strength or energy to overcome the Kings?
Every single overtime game the Rangers were up either 1-0 or 2-1, was a VERY close series and very difficult to watch as a Rangers fan.
wasnt this when kreider ran price over in game1? pretty sure it was this year because i have fond memories of my dad cussin out the tv when it happened
Put this into perspective, hank was 3 goals away from winning a cup
You should do a video on the Buffalo Carolina Oreilly Hanifin rumors
I had the Sharks-Rangers as my final that year. East bracket was perfect. LA however messed up my West...
That was a fun final even though the Kings won
Price was out after game 1
I don't think the Habs lost because of the injury to Price but you really can't say he was outdueled when he didn't even play a full game against them
It would be right to see % by round for Lundqvist. I beleve they were outscored in every game in the finals. In game 5 it was 51:30!
Will you cover the current controversy between Hoffman and Karlsson?
Oh I hated this team so much- the 2014 flyers were firing on all cylinders coming into the playoffs and that series was so hard-fought
Also, should’ve mentioned the Mothers Day goal by St Louis
Is there going to be a 2018 championship video like the other ones
Rharriscaps70 I’d hope so. But we don’t have the heindsight of saying, oh look this team would win soon after or this team blew its best chance with that core.
Typo: wrote PGH instead of PIT, but still great video/series!
top two comments were exactly what i was thinking
I have nightmares over the Alec Martinez goal
That Martinez goal still haunts me
Henrik Lundqvist would likely need to go elsewhere if he's going to get a Stanley Cup ring. Closest he'll get as a Ranger especially with how the team is going now.
Price got hurt in game 1 and didn’t play again the rest of the series. I’m also a diehard habs fan so I’m a little hurt right now. I’ll get over it tho. Maybe. ;)
Loved it when Price laid out Krieder behind his net some time after.
Cmon Shannon, Price was injured in Game 1 and replaced by Tokarski.
Feel so bad for lundqvist, so close and probably won’t get there again
All games went to OT, Lundqvisyvwas in a mission by holding the Fort every game
Price didnt even play against the rangers. Not saying they would've won if they had him but he would've made a huge difference not only in goaltending but the habs would have been more confident and maybe would've taken the series to 7.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Krieder ran over Price in game 1 and knocked him out for the series and then I think Budaj came in
budaj finished game 1. both montreal goalies were awful that game. tokarski started 2-6.
Shannon.... Price didnt have a chance to outduel lundquist he was run over by kreider in game 1
Alain Vigneault actually lasted 3 1/2 years in Montreal (1997-2000). But no can argue that his boss Rejean Houle was 1 of the worst GM's of all time.
It wasn't a lunqvist price duel. Price got injured in a controversial manner.
Shannon......Price didn't play most of that ECF.....
Kreider hurt price in the series
Only if the rangers that year had like a panrion or zibanjabd or fox
Kreider injured Price in Game 2. Tokarski took over
Do you think Lundqvist makes the Hall of Fame?
Price didn't play round three, come on man
Price was injured
Thanks LA! 😅
Colin 226 had to make up for 2012, sorry about that again
Should have been the hawks against the rangers
Well, they had some good looks...
Much as I respect AV, hearing "we had some good looks" at least 100 times this season drove me up the wall.
Yeah Price was sure disappointing allowing 7 goals in game one. Too bad thats not true and he allowed 2 then got steamrolled
This roster gets there because Montreal offense.
Price got injured
☺
Drama alert from ottawa between hoffmans girlfriend and the karlssons!!!
Shannon only thing I'll say about AV, it the whole Finals were on him, and last year's 2nd round. How many blown leads? In the 3rd period they told back and don't do anything except defend. If we would've had Sutter we would've won in that Finals imo. 2 goal lead blown 2x in that Finals
Rangers deserve that cup but failed.
Price was injured during that series "Hockey Guy"
Josh Fake injury
Would not have matter price is overrated.
"I don't know how they got there"
Lundqvist there's your answer also it's hysterical Ranger fans blame the refs in the finals when they were dominated from puck drop every single game Lundqvist kept it from being a sweep
This made the devils loss in 2012 a bit better.
Price got injured in the second period of game one and missed the rest of the series. That’s why Lundqvist outmatched price
CRUSTYPIEMAN krieder was tripped
poisontaco55 he was tripped and Price faked the injury
CRUSTYPIEMAN Price didn’t choke in 2017 Montreal just couldn’t score
MakeNYRoviGR8-8Again who the fuck would fake an injury during a playoffs game?
Ummm sorry but Carey was hit by a "accident of purpose" and a AHL goalie had to take over and almost beat out your "king"
And first again. Go Islanders
