After listening to this, I feel I have to 'step back' into myself, let go of my clinging doubts and let the fun of expression and imagination begin as I pick up the pencil or brush. Thank you for sharing this tape. Great words of wisdom - so deep here.
The wisest advice I have heard in the last few years! Now, in the era of internet gurus this man from 1952 comes closest to expressing the truth about being an illustrator. This recording is a real treasure. ❤
Dear Mr. Gurney, I found your UA-cam channel via your amazingly helpful and uplifting blog. Thank you so much for sharing the stuff behind your eyes..."The Artist's Clockworks," as it were. You are profoundly talented in so many ways, and I cannot stop watching your beautiful videos!
over 60 years ago I signed up. I still have the four books that came with the fine art course.. Recently I bought Norman Rockwell's classic techniques and tips ...of illustration. Now I wish I had taken the Illustration course...it forces you do all the things you should have, to be a fine artist. Wonderful Tape.
This is amazing, thank you so much for uploading it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤, you're changing lives here

Thank you James you are a master for me!
Thank you. There is so much in this. Philosophically and practically. It's appropriate for artists and illustrators, if a distinction is to be made.

Good advice. Thank you...though to be honest I've been painting some Dinotopia for inspiration of late.

A great piece. Interesting that the illustrator back then was always a ‘he’!
