  • Further testing on the same two amplifiers. This time recordings were made with a field recorder using four 21sw152 drivers (4ohm version), 2 per channel in a 2 ohm load. Amplifiers were both balanced at a measured output voltage of 48 volts using a 50hz sine wave.

Love ya work mate. Obvs a bit limited by space and equipment restrictions but about as a thorough comparison as you could do given the circumstances. I'm running a pair of Ricci's Othorns with the same drivers in my rig with ES-18 Kicks and some Meyer Sound tops but am super keen to put some Danley Horns on top instead. Seems logically the perfect match considering the ots being a tapped horn design which Danley essentially invented. Do you find the SH46 dispersion one per side is generally giving you the coverage you need outdoors or are you having to run center and side fill?

Also props on the Squatch tune... one of my favorite sub testers for sure :)

OK, so my take on it is, that the CVR does pretty well in the punchy bass, but doesn't hold the weight into the really low frequencies as well as the Powersoft does (at least into a 2ohm load). Will be interesting to see if the new D-3302 model improves on that at all.

Up to these levels it plays low frequencies just as good as the k10

Well what you $ay for is a lack of Listener fatigue. & the PowerSoft sounds Military Industrial & the CVR makes a conical even dispersed sure sound, less stomping around in the Mud & weighted down with Base Lag. For listening CVR for Stadium presence & Ticket Sales Value for Concert goers PowerSoft because they get the listener fatigue that equates to a proper Loud Concert, yet less Musical. I just put a CVR D-1502 in my Cart because I plan to get a pair of dual 15" Turbosound Speakers for my Home System & Jam to carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk, Bill Nelson, Tangerine Dream,Horselips, Joe's Garage Acts 2 & 3, The Rascals,Thin Lizzy, Iron Butterfly album (The Ball) . I am glad to hear the Danly Speaker. I wish more Sound Systems were like wise Played instead of just talked about. I find the best way to judge a sound system is listening from another room & hearing what comes down the hall way.

What brand subwoofer that you used, your sound system sound very good 👍 indoors. What about outdoor?

They are Skram subwoofers designed by Josh Ricci. You can find info about them at data-bass website. We use them outside all the time during summer.

Does the CVR run significantly hotter than the Powersoft with a 2ohm load? Is there any significant difference in the loudness of the fans between the two fans?

I didn't specifically check for heat during this session of testing. In the previous testing I thought the powersoft ran a bit warmer. When both amps run up their fans they are both pretty loud.

what software you use to measure

Apart from hearing more room than system due to using wrong equipment to record it I would hazard a guess. I would not use anything other than a Soundfield type of mic for this kind of thing Calrec give good results for this sort of thing but at around £4k for a setup with controller I doubt it will be worthwhile.
Measurement mics like the little ones from behringer etc are for anechoic use not this. They are usually omnidirectional
Which makes this whole exercise quite pointless & futile.
Your ears are of course much better at disseminating source from room. Your brain does that for you quite automatically.
So very nice but very pointless also.

Without being able to do proper measurements outdoors this is what I was able to do for the time being. The point of the test was to determine if the 3002 amp decreased its output below 40hz at a moderate load as reported by some people. As stated in my findings, at the levels this test was conducted at this wasn't the case. I will follow up with proper measurements when I am able to move outdoors again.
