Ive been trying to get a idea for my my barbershop and office techroom and this has helped out tremendously. after installing floors for 10 days straight this looks like a easy one day job
Very cool, thanks! I like it in your media room, but I've actually wanted a ceiling like that in our bedroom for a long time. It'd be great for a kid's room too!
This is such a cool idea. I like how you used fabric so you could put speakers behind it. Also the LED light strip that goes around the edge adds another cool look to it. I wanted to put LED strips around my ceiling but never liked how they looked when you could see the LED’s. This way you just see the glow with the bonus of the fiber optic. This is definitely my favorite version of this. Very cool!
I absolutely love this!!! And this dude!!! This just proves that with alittle bit of hard work and ingenuity , us regular normal people can have a badass theater room!!!
This video ROCKS! I am doing a MAJOR dedicated home theater upgrade this year and now, I see the path to get a star ceiling that will not negatively impact my soon to be installed ATMOS speakers... Thank you Sir Kedrick for sharing! BC
Kedrick, you have the patience of a saint. I'm not just talking about the DIY...but also the way you've responded to all these comments, including the repeat questions! I've taken on this project but adapted it. My box is slightly larger, so I ordered the larger size of the same brand of tablecloth you used (after buying a bunch of fabric and realizing the seams will show if I stitch them together to make them wide enough to cover the area). I decided to double up on the table cloth to make it less see-through, and I'm just using a nail to punch through the two layers before threading the strands. The cloth I ordered was supposed to be a true rectangle, but the corners are tapered and rounded, which made the ends too short to actually wrap the frame, but I am improvising. I also built a cradle in the center of the box to hold the LED driver. It adds only a little more weight, keeps the driver off the cloth and allows me to center it right under the ceiling outlet. Big problem, though... the optic strands are coming out of the bundle, even when I don't pull them very tightly. Very frustrating, especially since I bought a 1,000 strand unit and am losing way too many strands. I'm wondering if you or others know if I can reattach these loose strands or if have to just throw them away and make do with what's left. Sorry for the super long comment. Thanks for your excellent video and for your saintly input.
No problem and thanks for watching! So have you already started putting the strands thru the fabric? If so just remove to strands that came out the base, then tape (very tightly) where all the strands come together so additional strands don't pull out. If you haven't already started installing the strands return it and get a new one and repeat my first step of taping so strands don't come out. I would love to see the finished product ! Let me know if you have anymore questions.
@@KedrickFoster, yes. We are 75% through threading the strands through the fabric and can't stand the thought of starting that all over again with a new unit. Did you show a first step of taping so the strands don't detach from the bundle? I don't see that in the video. I made a (wrong) assumption that the strands would be secure at the gathering point. We lost a few at the start, but then strands in one area started coming out in handfuls. I suppose if we lose between 50 and 200, that's still 800 or more lights, which is decent. But I have to rethread in a bunch of places we'd already threaded...because the strands that were in place came out from the source. Aggravating. But I will try to secure the ones still connected so we don't lose any more. I just wonder if they will actually light if they are loose at the source, even with tape added.
@@KedrickFoster I didn't. I wanted more stars and longer strand reach, and I thought I was getting a unit with more power and solid reviews. I tested it before starting the install and it seemed to work fine. Hoping for the best once working through these issues. Also wanted the benefit of both an app and a remote control. Videos like these keep me so inspired. I've subscribed!
Hi Kedrick thank you for posting this video! I am excited about trying this for my grandkids room now. I never would have tried to create it if I had to use MDF so your use of fabric is next level!
That was a really cool project Kendrick! The stars are really stellar........anyway. Never seen that. I've interned with some studio and observed a few panel builds with led but I've noticed that wiring is usually a pain. With it being very noticeable or hard not to plug into along with audio hardware. I'd love to make this idea with acoustic panels but the fiber optic cable running through the ceiling light. Quickly went over my head. Is it possible to make a lighter and duplicable construction(s) for this? Say for a diy treatment of acoustic panels with fabric, Owens 703, and the fiber optic? I'd love to incorporate this project to my portable/home studio apartment or something down the line when hopefully running my own studio build. Congrats on a successful build man, it's gorgeous and striking. StarStruck!
You absolutely could do that. It would probably just take a little extra time sticking the fiber optic the the acoustic foam but it's definitely doable
I looked into this during the planning stage. The fabric has a very high flash point and the Fiber optic gets nowhere near hot enough to cause any issues
Hey Kedrick Nice Build Brother!! This is exactly what I am in the process of doing. The only difference is I cant Mount anything to the ceiling because I am renting a house. So I have decided to build a PVC frame all the way around my game room. And I am going to put black fabric all over the walls and ceiling. I'm glad I ran across your video cuz now I purchased the same star kit that you posted in your description. Thanks man I appreciate it. Also I wasn't sure what kind of fabric to get from the fabric store but I believe I'm just going to order the black sheets that you have in your description 👍🏻. Looks like tedious time to put all those fiber optic cables in LOL. Why did you cut it a quarter inch from the material and not any closer? I subscribed and headed over to check out more of your content. Great editing as well!! 😉
Thanks man I appreciate that! That's sounds like I cool idea! Post a video when your done! I would love to see it! You could cut closer but cutting it a quarter inch just makes the stars seem slightly larger.
Okay that's good to know, think I will do the same 😉. I have taken pictures as I am putting together the pvc but not a video. Hopefully the outcome turns out half as nice as yours did and I would be happy. Lol looking forward to more of your content!
Awesome work! I'm looking something like that for some part of our prayer room ceiling. But it won't be dark room. Question I have is if the optic fiber lights are visible in the day also? Are optic fiber lights visible with regular canned lights turned on at night? Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Yes you would be able to see them during the day with lights on. They won't seem as bright as they do with the lights off but you can definitely still see them.
Thank you! So after everything was done (after I recorded the video) I put a layer of felt over top of everything on the back side to stop light from bleeding thru. Took an extra 5 mins to do.
Looks super clean!! Question, did you have to cover the main fiber optics that are on top with more fabric so it wont be too bright and clash with your LED strip?
Love you already! Very informative and I like how you took the time to explain everything thoroughly. Did you have to do multiple takes? It’s impossible for me to not have to! Anyway, amazing video! I’ll look for the stuff. Did you get the stuff on Amazon with the exception of the plywood?
I admire your level of dedication to this project and it looks incredible! I laughed at 5:10, it looked like you died a little inside after saying that out loud! I don't think I have the patience to attempt this project, so I'm just going to stick to LEDs

Videos like these keep me so inspired. I've subscribed!
Thx man ! Good luck wit your channel and your theater. I'm going to check out your channel! Thx for watching!
Having lights on during your next creation build would be appreciated.
People who bought a Rolls Royce for the star ceiling: 👁👄👁
🤣🤣
Hi Kedrick thank you for posting this video! I am excited about trying this for my grandkids room now. I never would have tried to create it if I had to use MDF so your use of fabric is next level!
You are so welcome
Loved the idea of using fabric. Thanks for sharing your idea. 👍
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Quick question the way you did this is this a fire hazard in any way?
Fantastic ❤ This gives me motivation to build my home this project would appreciate web urls to buy these lights
Thank you! Links are in the description.
Hey, thank you for sharing this and your hard work. The payoff looks like it was well worth it. I'd love to have something like that in our bedroom.
Thank you and thx for watching!
Awesome job, that was a true labour of love, looks fantastic, well done.
Thank you! I appreciate you watching!
This look amazing. I'd like to do this with multiple of the optic star kit. To have two colors different speed twinkling.
That would be nice!!
Looks amazing!! Great job :) I noticed you listed felt fabric in the list of items you used, where and how did you use it?
Thank you! So after everything was done (after I recorded the video) I put a layer of felt over top of everything on the back side to stop light from bleeding thru. Took an extra 5 mins to do.
@@KedrickFoster can you explain? Are you saying you put a layer of felt to cover the strings of fiber optic on the back side?

Hi , Thanks for the video . is that fabric still holding up ? do you have any recommendations ?
Yes still looking good almost 2 years later
Looks super clean!! Question, did you have to cover the main fiber optics that are on top with more fabric so it wont be too bright and clash with your LED strip?
Yes I put a layer of felt on top
That looks great. What is the black table cloth for if you use the fabric
the black table cloth is the fabric i used
Subscribed because of this vid. How much back pain after all those cables 😂
Lol thx for the sub! It wasn't bad just time consuming!
I have a vaulted media gamer room. I wanted a TRON led lighting effect so this is perfect, brother! Thanks for sharing!
Yea thats gonna look good!! Thanks for watching!
Love you already! Very informative and I like how you took the time to explain everything thoroughly. Did you have to do multiple takes? It’s impossible for me to not have to! Anyway, amazing video! I’ll look for the stuff. Did you get the stuff on Amazon with the exception of the plywood?
Thx man , I appreciate that! And yea I ordered everything on amazon.
That looks amazing. I would tape a few of the fibre's together to make bright stars to make a recognizable constellation.
Thx! That's a cool idea
I admire your level of dedication to this project and it looks incredible! I laughed at 5:10, it looked like you died a little inside after saying that out loud! I don't think I have the patience to attempt this project, so I'm just going to stick to LEDs
😂😂😂😂😂 that's the truth! That was the hardest part of the job! Lol other than that it wasn't too bad!
Wow, that actually turned out really well.
Thank you! Thx for watching!
