Good video, very detailed, but Do yourselves a favor and use dexcool coolant ONLY in your impala and other chevy vehicles, do not use green or Multi-vehicle antifreeze. Notice when the pump is removed you can see a little bit of orange coolant.
Very much appreciate your videos. Your fuel pump video helped me greatly replacing the fuel pump in my 2010 Impala. No sooner was that replaced and now it appears either the thermostat or water pump may be going. No leakage or grinding around the water pump so figure its the thermostat... but with the system drained and the high mileage, figure might as well do the pump as well. Thanks again for the help!
Great video. Heard a family friend had pump changed on their 2010 and it cost them about $900. After seeing this video I'm thinking they may have paid too much. Thanks.
After people get wise to repair videos like this, prices like that will come down. All that's missing for the $900 mechanic is a gun and ski mask! That was highway robbery .
I'm going to do my water pump tomorrow, heater is blowing cold and overheats when I drive but not when idling, replaced radiator, hoses, tstat, and fan assembly, only thing left is that pump, upper hose is hot but limp
Near end of video, they added plain water - never do this - only add MIXED water and Dexcool together. Plain water can cause overheating and will not mix in the engine with Dexcool fast enough when engine runs.
The water was preceded by antifreeze into the same opening. Presumably he was able to gauge amount of water and amount of antifreeze to get close to a 50/50 mix. Me - I use a large measuring cup to insure my mix is 50/50.
A worn, cut or torn seal on the cap. A crack in the radiator to cap sealing surface, a crack in the neck of the radiator. Clean and dry the area thoroughly. Spray it with a leak tracing powder, ask your local parts store for assistance, or, this might not be easy, sprinkle baby powder or baking soda on the area in question. Once "powdered" complete a pressure test on the system. The leak should reveal itself.
I have seen conflicting information about how much to torque the water pump bolts on. You said 11ft/lbs which converts to 132in/lbs but everywhere else I have read and watched they say 89in/lbs. I have 2007 Chevy Impala 3.5 V6.. just want an answer that I can trust as I feel the difference between those numbers is quite substantial.
my 2006 just started all of a sudden overheating i had to stop several times trying to get home from just a few miles could it also be a sensor or a thermostat or is it more likely a pump? i have watched the other 2 videos but they didnt say their car was severely overheating?
A bad pump may show signs of leaking; stains from coolant from the weep hole. It may make noise or the pulley may wobble indicating the bearing is going bad. If the pump is in good working order it may be the thermostat has failed. Something in the cooling fans may be malfunctioning as well not making them cycle at the correct temperatures leading to the overheating.
If you received a paper gasket using a film, and I stress film, if sealer is fine. You shouldn't need more than enough to just hold the gasket in place.
Airtex-ASC Performance Pumps the gasket I pulled off of the old one had a rubber seal and looked fairly new so I cleaned it up good and reinstalled it on the new pump. Worked great. Switched out my ac pump as well
Hello Airtex . I need help . I replaced my 2011 chevy malibu LT water pump with new one .the old one was leaking . now the new one make a noise ! the mechanic said a bout it will go with the time ,I drove a bout 500Mile now and the noise still same . what is the problem ?!
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps I took my car to the dealer today . and they said exactly like what you say now . they will now reset the chain and the mechanic said he did it wrong in the first . they want me to pay for the rest labour !!!! it isn't my mistake !! thank you veeery much Mr :-) Is there any other way to be connected with you for any help in the future?! :-)
Airtex/ASC Performance Pumps hello today I got my car . they reset and replace the chain and chain tensioner , The whine noise gone when the engine work in normal ,but when drive still listen a little noise ,not like the noise before did the reset . what is your comment for this ?! do you think need more balance or nor problem to keep it like that ?!
I'm getting mixed information on the gasket. You say to just put the gasket on and torque the water pump bolts. I've seen a few other videos where they say to put silicon rtv on water pump, slap the gasket onto that rtv, put more rtv on the block mating surface, then put pump on. Your way sounds correct. But I saw two other videos that show using rtv even though there's already a gasket.
My Airtex AW-6020 I purchased this week, does not have an o-ring on the gasket. What where and how do we apply to the gasket to install??? Written instructions say coat with "tacky sealer" and IF using self curing silicone type gasket sealer........ What is tacky sealer? How do you install your product?? Thanks
By far the most efficient and informative repair video I've seen. Very thorough, professional, and to the point!

Exactly what I needed! Thanks for the quick guide!
straight to the point thanks!

@@Skipperj exactly smh
Definitely paid to much. Professionals with the right tools can do this in less than an hour I'm sure.

Man You can tell your a Pro!! These steps were way too fast and not for a novice like me trying to do it myself!! Ha! Ha!

@@toobeeorknottwobea I hear ya, but I would not do it, engine problems are always $$$$! lol
Would it be easier to take the tire off and remove it that way?
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
It is easiest from the top.
What happens if you don't get all the air out?? like he said at the end of the video
What will cause a real slow leak around the radiator cap even though the cap is tight?
A worn, cut or torn seal on the cap. A crack in the radiator to cap sealing surface, a crack in the neck of the radiator. Clean and dry the area thoroughly. Do you need to drain the engine coolant before changing the water pump?
Awesome video wish you would have told us the ratchet sizes so I can just bring what I need when I go to do this

Are these the same steps to a 2006 Monte Carlo water pump
A 2006 Monte Carlo with a 3.5 or 3.9 does use the same water pump. Installation will be very similar.
Do you have to Losing the tensioner first? Or is it spring loaded
theres spring tension. that belt tool you can rent at oriellys.
I actually went ahead and ordered the tool off
Amazon and replace the water pump followed the video step-by-step 👌🏿

Is the water pump pully reverse thread?
The bolts holding the water pump pulley are a standard right hand thread. clockwise to tighten, counter clockwise to remove.
Mine doesn't have the rubber part of the gasket. Should I use rtv?

Hold on to your new one. Chances are you'll need it.
So u think it will leak? I got the fiber one that came with the new one but i bet it will hold. Thanks

No, they are different pumps.
Thanks

Apply a film to which surfaces? Water pump housing only? Thanks for your response.
