I am one of the few that went to The world of Sid and Marty Krofft…..I loved it and I also went ice skating a few times a month on the famous green ice in the Omni International……GREAT TIMES!😃 It was expensive back in the day, I feel fortunate my parent took me to see it a few times.

Sid and Marty Kroft were the second-largest producers of Saturday morning television in the United States. They were only surpassed by Hanna and Barbara. Their success started in 1969 with the Banna Splits. They filmed some live-action transitions and playful interactivity at Kings Island Amusement Park in Ohio. The teams at Kroft and Kings Island were surprised at how these bits were excellent promotions for the park and increased the park's business. They reran the bits shot at Kings Island during the entire run of the show as a cost-saving measure. This discovery would play into the vision of the Kroft theme park eight years later, but first Kroft needed to build on its name.
That building came from their next production, the Juggernaut H.R. Pufnstuf, which spun off a feature film Pufnstuf, that had the same actors from the TV show with the addition of Mama Cass Elliot as Witchiepoo's (Billie Hayes) sister.
From 1970 to 1980, Sid's Saturday morning offerings included "The Bugaloos," "Lidsville" (with Butch Patrick, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Billie Hayes as Weenie the Genie), "Land of the Lost," "Sigmund the Sea Monster," "The Lost Saucer" (with Ruth Buzzy and Jim Neighbors), "Far Out Space Nuts" (with Bob Denver and Chuck McCann), "The Kroft Super Show," and ending their daytime run with "The Kroft Superstar Hour" starring The Bay City Rollers.
Kroft expanded into evening television with the variety shows "The Brady Bunch Variety Hour," "The Donny and Marie Show," "The Pink Lady and Jeff (Jeff Hughie Hogg Altman)," and "Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters."
The Kroft Super Show was comprised of four rotating titles: "Dr. Shrinker", "The Wonder Bug", "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" (the concept of this show was based on Adam West's Batman), and "Kaptain Kool and the Kongs" (a Kroft-assembled rock group the way Screen Gems assembled the Monkees and the Partridge Family). "Dr. Shrinker" and "Electra Woman" were canceled and replaced by "Magic Mongo", and "Bigfoot and Wildboy". Now comes the tie-in, "Kaptain Kool and the Kongs" which were filmed at the newly constructed Kroft theme park. The logic goes that if the Banna Splits increased business at King Island, Kroft should build its own theme park and reap the benefits. The theme park known as The World of Sid & Marty Krofft was created. A two-hour experience that Adam pointed out was overpriced when compared to Six Flags Over Georgia's days' worth of activities. So it did not receive public support.

The last time I was on Peachtree Street, was back in 1969, I was in the back of my grandparent’s Pontiac station wagon, my parents and my two brothers and me, were on vacation and visiting, we all piled in the wagon and drove through downtown Atlanta, my grandparents lived in a suburb of Atlanta. Any who, we made it to Peachtree street, and at that time, it was a big, hippie hangout, it was wild, saw a guy that was dressed up like General Custer, at least, that is what it looked like to me. We even made a trip through, Underground Atlanta, which was just opening after years of renovations.

I remember the Sid and Marty Krofft short-lived theme park in downtown Atlanta. The Krofft’s had a theater called Circus 70’s at Coney Island amusement park in Cincinnati before the park’s closing in 1971 and moving north to Kings Island in 1972. They had a show in the big red bubble theater for a couple years before it was damaged and torn down. That was probably when their production company tried the indoor theme park idea in 1976. It closed before I had the chance to visit.

Not my intent to contradict your comment because I truely don't know if he owned slaves or not, but I would like to know with certainty. While there is considerable testament to his accademic endeavors as a chemist/pharmacist, I've not found a definitive reference regarding his outlook on slavery via my admittedly brief web search on him. @marj grey Yeah every race has been slaves, and in the US far more people died to end slavery than ever owned slaves. Gotta stop erasing history, it is insanity. But there is a segment of society that wants to erase all history and obscure the meaning of even many common words, all in an effort to destroy in order to build a socialist utopia, because that has always worked out so well.

The insanity just won't end. I attended the first Dragoncon with my Spock ears & Spock doll in an infant tote & took my son & daughter as tiny Vulcans. BTW they just closed down Atlanta Medical Center, a level 4 trauma center. That will give you an idea about the current situation of downtown ATL. Leadership is null & void. My daughter, SIL & grands live intown, but I think my SIL is tired of lockdowns at his business with so many shootings. I will never give up on the great city of ATL. Hope you come back next year !

The world of Sid and Marty Krofft is remembered by most Legacy Turner and CNN employees. i know as I am one, for + 20 years. But, alas, that building was sold by our LAST merger company. MY office is technically in that building. First time in 2.5 years. it was depressing...no one and nothing there... The escalator you see there is the one you speak of still...and was/is part of the CNN Studios tour for ages. At 2:02, that is how I get in, then make a right turn at the security desk and up into the belly of the beast is where employees go... The ice rink was turned into a TV Studio that as used for a live show for about a decade. It is empty because there is basically no one is there, most of us work from home these days or in the other campus down Techwood on the other side of Ga Tech.. Man, you pretty much walked the tail end of my former commute, thanks for the reminder of why I don't miss it!
