🌟 Key Highlights from the Kiama Municipal Council Meeting - May 2024 🌟
📊 Budget and Financial Plan: We presented the 2022-23 Audited Financial Statements, marking a significant milestone for our council. This development underscores our commitment to financial sustainability, thanks to our dedicated staff.
💰 Council budget: We endorsed our Draft Long Term Financial Plan, aiming for a net operating surplus by 2026-27. Achieving this involves optimising operational expenditure, implementing efficiencies, reviewing services, and prioritising capital works and asset sales. These measures are crucial for our financial future.
⚖️ Legal matters: Council reviewed ongoing litigation costs, which have reached approximately $4.7 million this financial year. These costs impact our operational budget, but we're committed to resolving these matters efficiently.
📚 Library censorship: In response to censorship attempts elsewhere, Kiama Council unanimously voted to ensure our libraries remain free from intolerant censorship. We are a diverse and welcoming community, and our libraries will continue to reflect and support that diversity.
🌳 Land management: Council adopted the Plan of Management for Council-managed Crown Land and will seek clarity on specific designations from the Minister for Lands and Property. Our CEO will report back with further details.
🚶‍♂️ The Man Walk donation: We proudly voted to donate $10,000 to The Man Walk, a fantastic local initiative promoting mental health. Kiama Council is now the first official sponsor, supporting this invaluable community resource.
