My 1987 Jeep YJ Wrangler towing a 16' Hews Redfisher flats boat. The jeep has the 4.2 inline 6 with a 5-speed manual trans and the boat/trailer combo weighs about 2,000 lbs.
I have had tons of jeeps, CJ2A, CJ7s, YJ, JKs, and currently own a four door 2015 Rubicon, a 1969 CJ5, and a 1960 Willy’s Wagon. I bought the 1989 YJ Blue Islander in 1988, 258 six, 5 speed. I pulled a 8’ pickup truck trailer made out of 3/4 ton dodge truck. That wrangler really did a good job. There were times I pulled way more weight than your bay boat pulling sand and mulch. It stopped pretty good too. I currently have a F350 diesel dump truck and a 9ton capacity trailer and had many various trucks over the years pulling lots of weight, so I know a little about towing. Only down side of YJ is short wheel base and braking capability. If you take it easy and plan ahead should be ok, but it’s not for everyone. Some people roll YJs without towing anything lol.
So glad to see this video. I'm gonna tow a 17" Bay boat about the same weight as yours with a new JL 2dr Wrangler. So many chicken-shits out there warning about towing anything larger than a kayak with the Wrangler. So how'd it do at higher speeds, say 60-70 mph?
Orlando Diaz yeah you shouldn’t have any issues towing that! Mine is an old 4.2 L YJ and towed this up to 55mph with no issues Be smart about it, accelerate slowly and leave plenty of room for braking and your wrangler will do fine

I'm looking at a 16-18 foot to tow behind my 4.0 TJ. Been trying to read up if my jeep can handle it. You're right about the chicken shits, but they are getting me worried about it. I do have really wide tires though and my jeep weights 4400 pounds. Should I be ok, Orlando?

Leave plenty of room for breaking or braking, lol
It will pull it easy but it is harder to stop
