I'm really glad you showed the actual steering angle. The inside tire is getting really close to 90° of steering just like a proper two-wheel drive drift car. So I think this more beginner friendly drift chassis is going to be able to get people in the door and carry them through at least for a while until they can get a more competition level car if that's the path that they choose
This'll be great for beginners wanting to join the fray, and brushed motor, lipo battery combo will give you enough power and oodles of run time. The only downside is you're anchored to a mid motor configuration, and the 60 degree steering angle. If its price competitively, its a great start.
At least for now, the MSRP is higher than yokomo and MST RTRs... Electronics wise there's not too much difference but those chassis are race proven fully upgradeable to high end specs. One thing to consider is that the traxxas car has a more refined driver-aid system that includes steering and throttle assistance, spinout active prevention and drag brake instead of just the gyro assisted steering used by everyone else
I hope they make the steering angle a kit that you can buy and toss on the 4tec. Kinda a let down that they didn’t use the 3s system in it, I love drifting my 4tec 2.0 VXL all it’s missing is some more angle
I commented on a video by Roadside RC and I'll repeat it here: I can't wait for the aftermarket to put out some accessories to make this car even better. Great video Mark and I know you will dig more into this one!
Probably a few parts I might snag to put on my 4WD version in time, but as a 2WD drift, they missed the mark again. 60 degree angle is barely enough to qualify as a drift car, however for some people this will be a better overall "driving" car if they want a more realistic 2WD feel. I feel like Traxxas pays attention, but just doesn't "listen" if you know what I mean. They knew they needed a proper drift car, but then did the wrong things to do it, It's the Mudboss all over again. Come on Traxxas, you can do better.
What did the modified do wrong. I've seen plenty of people say it's quickly becoming the biggest class an tracks. I think just limits the steering angle is the traxxas servo everything else seem pretty dang legit for 320.

Traxxas doesn't really make competitive models. More like entry RC cars. I think this is more of a beginner/General drift RC. Not something you would take to a competition. Same goes with their SCT's and some bashers.
The fun is when you tandem with another drift car. Cat and mouse, stay in proximity with each other and no passing. Come down to The Hobby Shop in Leander and we'll get you sliding like a pro.
This was smart. They needed a drift car. Shouldve had the 2s system tho for sure. Then again im sure there are plenty of people who will appreciate the slower pace, simple batteries, scale track stuff, and the look. Looks good. Keep you spending for the people who want more power. I get it.
Everyone seems to complain about the price considering it comes only with a brushed setup. The truth is you don't need that much power to drift a 2wd setup. In my opinion the biggest point that's being overlooked is that tweaked TSM this car comes with. Instead of your traditional gyro assisted steering, this thing also has throttle assistance, spinout active prevention and drag brake. I'm no pro drifter but I'm pretty sure you can drift decently even a Tamiya hornet with that level of drive-aids
