Minirig 3 & Subwoofer Review - The only DJ speakers you'll ever need?

  • Minirig says this "could be the only speaker system you'll ever need", and for many this may well be true. For DJs who want the flexibility of consumer Bluetooth speakers, but also something they can DJ with successfully at decent volumes when out and about, nothing else currently comes close..

    I bought a MINIRIG 1 and loved it then got MINIRIG 2 and sub. That’s about 6 years ago now and they are still performing great even though they have been to Africa and back a few times 😄👍🏾

    Great review Phil, I love my 2.1 setup with my Prime Go, absolutely perfect for out and about DJ sets and livestreams. Best use I’ve found so far is for outdoor ceremonies at weddings, the 2.1 is plenty loud enough for that.
    You know that they’re a great product when every single time you use them out and about, somebody invariably is blown away by them and asks what they are.
    Also, great to support a small company, especially in these times.

    Very fair review I think. I picked up a pair and a sub to go with a Prime Go a few months ago and they are FANASTIC for that. The app is unusable and using them as a bluetooth speaker for your phone is frustrating. I would only recommend these to use with something like the prime go until they get the app sorted.

    • @digitaldjtips

      We actually do find Bluetooth useable, just a bit frustrating sometimes when it drops, not helped by an app that seems to get confused sometimes too.

    A good review Phil. I’ve had this system for a while. I actually found that I really benefited from a second sub, the one sub just didn’t quite cut it for me. A 2:2 setup mimicked my studio speakers a bit more (Just like a normal speaker - one tweeter to one woofer). They are really good if portability is an issue, so I have used them with my prime go and DDJ200 before, but more often than not I don’t have to be super conscious of portability so I’ve used my prime go with my JBL partybox 300 (with a wired connection) and it blows the minirigs away. Horses for courses, I’ve spent a lot of different speakers and they have their place, but I mostly use them now for listening to music down the beach!

    • @digitaldjtips

      Thanks for sharing Rod. Not surprised you're getting more bang out of the Partybox 300, it's a pretty different set-up to the little Minirigs.

      @rodbeuzeval8870 2 роки тому

      @@digitaldjtips Absolutely agree, completely different systems. If you want a DJ setup that can fit in your backpack then the minirigs are really the only solution as far as I’m concerned! I guess I thought that when I bought my minirigs, I would be doing exactly that, for friends bbqs etc, as a portable battery solution to set up anywhere. The reality is that as I often drive to that type of event, the JBL serves me better, so I have only used the minirigs a few times. Given the cost of them, I’m glad I have them, but I don’t use them as often as I thought I would.

    Hi Phil, great review! I have a small note to add that might be considered by potential buyers. I absolutely love my minirig 2.1 setup. There's simply put no other portable system that compares. However..., -- And i want to make sure people understand I am definitely no political supporter nor critic-- when the time comes that one of your speakers eventualy needs repairs that are no longer covered by warranty your only option is sending it back to the repair center in Bristol. Now I don't have any data from other than my own experience but since leaving the EU the prices to send a 2kg, tracked parcel to Bristol have gone from "mainlaind EU parcel delivery" to "international worldwide shipping" including a separate CN23 customs declaration. Since the company has no mainland center for repairs this ads to the cost. But again, nothing but love for the Minirigteam. They're nothing if not friendly and easy to contact.
    (Lowkey hint i would definitely run a mainland repair center for virtually zero pay if they ever wished to open a FOB... ;-p)

    I've got delay free audio with a pair JBL Partybox 100's (at least delay free to my ears) except you need to use the Guitar 1/4" jack input and fiddle with the gain (just past half) so you don't clip. I also have a Minirig 3 2.2 setup, by far they sound like portable monitors, just not as loud if it's a big space. If you have the JBL's try the Guitar input for (near) realtime audio.

      since when did jbl hold the battery normally? I had 4 different versions of jbl and they are all in the trash due to a battery breakdown, at full volume for 4-5 hours, the maximum battery lasts and this is on new speakers, it is enough to use it for half a year and this figure is halved. And I'm not just telling you fairy tales, but as a real user of jbl products. Not that I don't recommend jbl, I just want to refute your comment that minirig is worse on battery life. In fact, in terms of battery quality, jbl should be the last to pay. There is nothing worse when you spend crazy money, but all this buzz for a couple of hours of maximum volume, the question is: "what am I paying for?", And I cry to enjoy this quality for a long time, and not for a couple of hours of work. This is the same as buying the coolest smartphone with a small battery and you can buy a smartphone a little worse, but with a battery for a couple of days of work.

I tried a pair of Anker Soundcore Rave Neo 50w speakers, which to be fair sound pretty amazing for $130 each… especially with custom EQ on the app, however like every other Bluetooth compatible portable speaker, the delay on the AUX line in is just awful! I really am kinda stuck atm trying to find something that doesn’t lag but is also loud enough for beach, garden or whatever… I don’t want to settle for a pair of KRK monitors that need electricity outlets really but struggling to find something.. any input would be hugely helpful!
