It is important to not bury the lead with a key point: the mail-in PDF form also linked on the portal ONLY needs a full name and a date of birth to request cancellation. I repeat, name + DOB = cancel requested. Only other required fields are the date, signature (just fake one,) and a hollow "oath" that the request is valid. It asks for address, SSN, and/or state ID # "to help locate registration" but those are all optional fields. At least the portal needs last 4 of SSN or ID # to make the request digitally... the REAL fear is the mail system will be FLOODED with cancellations that will tie everything up with delayed effect. GA Voters: check registration early, check often.

Despite the GOP's increasingly hysterical claims, we know that people casting ineligible votes tend to be incredibly rare. When investigated tend to be mistaken/mislead, that is they didn't realize they were ineligible because someone told a felon they were eligible OR young person thought they had citizenship. And of course, every cycle there are mail in votes cast by now deceased voters OR relatives committing fraud.

Poll worker here. Many states do not automatically deregister deceased voters or voters that moved. And even if they do, it does not always work. 60 Minutes did a story on it a few years ago. The ability to challenge the authenticity of the registration is essential to ensure fair and free elections.
@@miscellaneousproductions Nobody is claiming that you can't make sure registration is valid, what we are talking about is deliberate purging of voters who live in the "wrong" type of area and are likely to vote the "wrong way". Also, there is a big difference between election's departments verifying the validity of a voter's registration vs an anonymous citizen trying to de-register a voter.

sadly, the Supreme court has ruled that each state gets to decide how to run elections (just ignore the fact that they only want results that favor them, hence why when states were challenging Trumps qualifications to be on the ballot, based on the insurrection he incited,, the Supreme Court struck those down, allowing Trump on the ballot) the supreme court is great, isn't it /s
It's not the Republicans who are destroying Georgia voter roles. Voter registrations should be wiped clean of fraudulent voters, not destroyed. We need updated voter roles to show who eligible voters are, against who aren't.

Voting there is already the most strict of any country I know. In my country if I want to vote I can just show up registered or not, and it's my right because I am a citizen. I mark a paper, that's it. No signatures, and I don't even need ID, I can just show a piece of mail and have someone with ID vouch for me and we don't have rampant voter fraud either. When voting isn't permissive as possible you are headed for a dictatorship.

As a German, this whole voting registration/polling place debacle just mystifies me. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of things not okay in Germany, but the voting is great (except for the accessibility issues). You turn 18, boom, you're a voter. About 2 months before any election you get mail: voting slip, location of your polling place and application for mail-in voting. Elections are always held on Sundays. And the polling places? Let's just say, wherever I've lived in Germany, I've never walked more than 15 minutes to mine and never waited in line for more than a few minutes. It's almost like they want us to vote... Just like in 2020 when I popped a bottle of champagne at Biden's win, I'll be sitting here with another bottle in November, and I'll keep all my fingers crossed for you to save your democracy, love from Hamburg 🗎💖

I was watching a documentary about Monticello yesterday, and from it learned that even during the Civil War era, there had been an effort to change the Constitution to declare Christianity the official national religion. When my aunt found her dead husband’s name on the printout of registered voters when she went to vote in November (her husband had died in March) She was told that he had to “not vote” for four years before his name would be removed. I’m hoping that has changed in the years since then… and I doubt any election in her township was won or lost by a single vote 😏 But the reality is that there is always room for improvement in any system

As a widow, sending in a certified death certificate for my husband of 35 years was NOT a priority with all of the notifications to our family, Medicare, our insurance company, our bank and various credit card companies. Shame on GA gov Brad Rattasberger!!

In my state, the notification to Registrar of Voters and Social Security/Medicare were automatic when the death of my mother was confirmed. I called to notify and they said it had already been done.

It's protected in MN and we have established automatic registration (and updates) since 2023! Mail in voting is still here, was great for when I was out of state studying, and useful for my increadibly busy life taking care of a disabled adult!

Be sure and check your registration, keep your ID current, and consider having supporting docs with you when voting in person. The last several years there have been reports of people being challenged on eligibility while at polling sites.

Poll worker here. Many states do not automatically deregister deceased voters or voters that moved. And even if they do, it does not always work. 60 Minutes did a story on it a few years ago. The ability to challenge the authenticity of the registration is essential to ensure fair and free elections.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of things not okay in Germany, but the voting is great (except for the accessibility issues). You turn 18, boom, you're a voter. About 2 months before any election you get mail: voting slip, location of your polling place and application for mail-in voting. Elections are always held on Sundays. And the polling places? Let's just say, wherever I've lived in Germany, I've never walked more than 15 minutes to mine and never waited in line for more than a few minutes. It's almost like they want us to vote...

Every day leading up to the election don't let up don't give in get informed get registered and vote blue up and down the ballot from school boards to the president
It's protected in MN and we have established automatic registration (and updates) since 2023! Mail in voting is still here, was great for when I was out of state studying, and useful for my increadibly busy life taking care of a disabled adult!
