I have a mini schnauzer so i do know to look out for pancreatitis and keep her low fat but it's still a great video!
My partner saw how painful my gallbladder issue was last year and now they're like "I don't want daisy to go through what you did!" And obviously they're not the same but I've heard the pain is similar.
It's so painful 😣 and it breaks my heart how many animals don't get the pain management they require.
I hope your gallbladder issue has been resolved, it doesn't sound like any fun
@@VetMedCorner I ended up needing surgery. They debated doing it same day thankfully we were able to wait and do it laparoscopically and I've been doing great since!
And I always make sure my pup has painkillers when she needs them! I heard some people didn't get pain killers for after spay and I couldn't believe that, it just seems cruel to me. If I'd want painkillers after whatever, I make sure she gets them.

Thanks for this info on an important topic. I've had 2 dogs get pancreatitis (one had it more than once) and it's helpful to understand this disease better. Definitely can be scary and expensive!

Excellent video! Do you know if pancreatitis from medications like azathioprine presents differently than idiopathic pancreatitis?
Excellent question! Yes, it does present in much the same way and can make some dogs feel quite sick if they experience that side effect with that medication.
Thank you for all info. My cat was diagnosed with pancreatitis by excluding everything else. The prescription food is helping ( hill’s prescription z/d. ) but not completely. I feel like we should try something else, what do you think about hill’s digestive care i/d? I feel like his problem is more on the digestive system. Thank you
Hill's z/d is excellent. I would not trial a different diet before you update the veterinary internal medicine you are working with. If you haven't consulted one yet, you should.

Can you talk about MDR1 in dogs?

@@VetMedCorner Oh My goodness! SO MUCH! My dog is an Aussidoodle and her mother (Australian shepherd) is MDR1 "carrier". I had my dog tested and she also has one gene copy of the mutation. I asked the breeder why she would breed a dog that she knows has the gene and she said MDR1 is not a big deal but if she started to control for it, she may get other, yet known, worse things. That feels like a cop out to me. I have learned that whether you are a "carrier" or have two genes it is not so black and white. If you are a carrier it does NOT mean (from what I have gleaned) that you are safe! It means you are still MORE susceptible to some medications. I am most terrified of flea and heartworm treatments. I know my dog is more susceptible to seizure from the medication. I am worried about if I want to get her teeth cleaned and she has to be put under. Last month she was playing outside with her sister (no blood) dog and she tore her nail off so low we had to have it surgically removed. That was terrifying because she had to be put under! The vet did go over the "safe" MDR1 protocol but I know safe is not 100 percent and I love this dog so much! True story! So I guess these are my questions in a nutshell. I actually started a Facebook support group for people with MDR1 dogs so we can learn from each other. It is called MDR1 positive support group for dog owners.

Hey my dog has diagnosed with ibd and epi. Hes eating alot of food and will not gain any weight at all. Losing about 1 pound a month. He has had all of his test with no answers as to what is going on. Last option is endoscopic test. Can you please help me out? I can send you all of his records. Im willing to pay anything to get him healthy again. Thank you.
I'm so sorry you are going through this with your dog. Your best bet is to consult a veterinary internal medicine specialist for help in this situation. I hope that an effective treatment plan is able to be found for your dog quickly.
