I looked up the manga raws and the speech bubbles say 「いえっ！自分精進の身なので！」 basically what you just said in romaji. However, according to Jisho 精進 which is Shoujin, definition 1.) concentration; diligence; devotion | 2.) asceticism; zeal in one's quest for enlightenment | 3.) adherence to a vegetarian diet And 身 which Mi refers to oneself, herself. So 精進の身 = Shoujin no Mi. Feel free to interpret what you want from there but vegetarian isn't off the table.
