John Mayer - Last Train Home (Drum Cover) by Kai Jokiaho

- John Mayer released a great new single and I had to make my version of it. It's got some 80's vibes from Clapton's Journeyman (one of my favourites) and some Toto influences. I tried to play Aaron Sterling's original parts but added some hi-hat for the beginning of the song.
I also have an older John Mayer cover on my channel, check it out. • John Mayer - Waiting O...

That's an insane collection of drums you got there
this video deserves at least x10 views! SOLID!
Thanks Jonas!!!
The Finnish Pocket King! Great job, Kai!
Hey, Thanks Javi!!!
Mature drumming has such an undeniable sound. Listened through the entire catalogue on UA-cam. This is the best cover.
Now this I would call Devotion to the art. Brilliant!
Awesome. Perfect all around! I love JM, too. I’m happy I’m not the only drumming to this album, haha. It’d phenomenal - As is everything about your page, content, and music. Cheers! 😎
Great emotive tones and rhythms that are nicely bright which intrigues me as a guitarist and John Mayer Trio fan, and your musicality is so artful! Cheers!
Thanks very much Dorothy!
Very nice, with all the details and kick variations in such a short time!
Thanks flodrums! I had a cheat sheet for the different kick variations :) I basically did the same thing when somebody sends me a song to play. 1: Make a quick chart with kick/snare/fills 2: Record a version with my own feeling but using most of the demo drums. It would be hard to memorize all the variations when listening to the song twice, so this helps speed up the learning curve.
Perfect… so groovy and tasteful as always 🙏
Thanks Michael 🙏
Very nice job !
Those ghost notes are on point!!
Great play!
Beautiful studio!
Thanks William :)
This was so smooth! Love the snare cabinets you got behind you! SO many options!

relaxed, smooth flow.. but then I knew that's what I was going to hear when I pushed play
Thanks sharky :)
Very nice cover Sir!!! 😊🥁🇵🇭
Sounds really good mate!! Great job !
Thanks Antonin! Are you related to John Guerin?
Great groove man! 😉🤗🥁💪🏻
Thanks Lucio!!
PERFECT DRUMMING!
Thanks Volt 🙏
Brilliant playing man - Subbed 🤘🏼
Thanks!!!
Nice cover. I've viewed 3 cover vids and all have interpreted the HH differently. 2 handed 16ths and single handed broken 16ths and this one filling in the gaps with ghost notes.
Thanks Matt! I played my version before watching other covers so it was just my preferred way of playing this song :)
@@KaitsuDrums I'd not considered using ghost notes but really like them, especially with those off beat ride accents 👌
Youre playing the kick pattern exactly the same as the album version which is actually amazing to me, most drummers dont play it identical like that, thats some amazing drummer memory right there, you clearly have a good ear for listening to songs man
He has the music sheet in front of him. He's clearly done more than just listen to the song!
Really good brother! Great sound 🙌🏼
Thanks Jonas 🙏
@@KaitsuDrums Had to make a cover on my own! 🥁 Would love to hear your thoughts on that one ☺️ all the best!
@@jonasverlo Sounded really great!! 👍
Nice job!
Thank you StrataNL!
Awesome cover as always. Didn't know Lenny Castro is still active. That's really cool!
Thanks Mordi! Yes, Lenny still plays great and as I wrote it was great to hear that I ended on the same track with him!
Solid pocket.
Thanks Chrioni!
Nice cover
Thanks Peter!
You're drums always sound amazing!!
Could you do a video where you mix your drums from scratch?
Thanks Andrea! I'm not a mixing expert at all :) I just use a little eq, try to balance everything and on this song I had reverb on the snare drum.
Mahtavaa soittoa...taas! Kehuja ympäri maailman. Mulla tulee kylläkin 90-luvun TOTO mieleen biisistä, mikä vain hyvä asia ; )
Kiitoksia...taas!
Excellent! I thought he was playing 16th notes on the hi-hats
Thank you!
KYLLÄ kuulostaa hyvältä! Groovaaaa! Saattaa tulla sulle Kai pian sub-keikka Mayerin bändiin jos omat miehet ei kerkiä soittamaan ;-) Ja täytyy sanoa, että sitä tehtiin 80-l:lla paljon loistavaa musiikkia, mistä tää biisi muistuttaa. Terv. H. Saksasta
Kiitos Heikki! Tulispa joo :) Mutta Mayerin rumputontti on varmaankin halutuimpia keikkoja koko maailmassa ja en pistäisi vastaan jos tulisi kyselyä 😄
great cover! i’m between getting either the Constantiople or K Sweet as a new ride. Since you have both have you found yourself preferring one over the other?
Thanks very much Jayson! I use K Sweet ride for the all-around sound/pop/rock and Constantinople 22" Med thin low for the more jazzy or lighter sound. K Sweet has a better bell sound but they both are really excellent cymbals :)
Less is more in most cases, regarding drums anyway! :) well played!
Thanks Jonas!!
Make another video plz we Miss you plz
Wow you're so quick to cover this. Would you mind if I will ask music sheet? I'm starting to learn drums. I'm a Toto fan too. I saw John's Mayer's link in the group and ended up here.
Thanks! I don't have a proper drum chart for this, only my handwritten kick pattern sheet. But if you search YT, there's a video with proper charts for this song.
@@KaitsuDrums thank you for the information. Thanks for taking your precious time to reply. I'm a fan of your drumming. Hope it's not too late for me to learn drums
@@somethinginmind2151 No problem! It's never too late for learn to play drums :)
Ai, tää ei ollutkaan Jojo Mayer-cover, kun tavaraa oli vähemmän. Tätä kuunteli ihan stressaantumatta.
Juu ei ollut ei :) Toinen Mayer kyseessä 😎
great job with this one! Just released my own take on the song as well if you'd like to check it out, cheers!
I thought there 16th notes
ForkU, I heard that the 16th notes come from the percussion and the drums play mainly 8-notes. The original doesn't even have hi-hat for the intro and the first verse...this was just my version :)
@@KaitsuDrums you did great my friend, very true to the song
This guy even looks like Aaron Sterling lmao
Haha, James 😅
i don't like this music for a drum cover
