NASA's Secret Weapon

- During the 1960’s, NASA was under a huge amount of pressure to land humans on the Moon by the end of the decade. But without the help from a truly unique aircraft, NASA would have struggled to assemble the massive Saturn V rocket in time and their ambitious goal might never have been achieved.
Check out my collaboration with Astrum!

Fun fact: the original Guppy was actually nicknamed the "Pregnant Guppy" by NASA engineers.

Excellent video !
You said that Apollo 11 landed on the Moon with just five months to spare on Kennedy's promise to land a man on the Moon and safely return him to the Earth In that decade!
(Or words to that effect.) "If I have said this once I have said this a thousand times"
The Romans used Roman numerals to count with! In the year 1 BCE the Romans controlled the Holy Land of middle east and most of the western world. Roman numerals do not have a zero!
So the year 1 BCE was followed by the year 1 CE. Notice there was no zero year.
The first decade started on January 1, 1 CE and the first decade ended on December 31, in the year 10 CE. All Decades end at the conclusion of the zero year. So the 1960's Did not start until January the 1st 1961 and did not end until
December 31, 1970 was over!
It is Just that simple! (So really Apollo 11 still had 16 months and 7 days at the conclusion of its flight. !)

The beluga: i use the plane to transport the plane
This needs way more likes
Well yes but actually yes.
Big brain :D
The dreamlifter: sad noises
See the Beluga overhead so often, the Airbus Broughton factory where they build wings is just a couple of miles from me.

And I thought the Beluga had an "original" design...
It's the guppy but modern

Loved the video! It's amazing that something like that can even fly. And it was great doing a collab with you, thanks for lending your narration to my video!!
Hi brotha
Hey astrum imma big fan 🤩
Thank you for being a good narrator and not adding in unnecessary fake enthusiasm and emotion like all UA-cam Channels think is how to properly talk (and like to hear themselves talk). They use so much inflection and intonation it ruins the story but this video doesnt have that and I'm glad, thanks man
6:02 Wow, that advertisement segue is legendary
Haha

Growing up, I had no idea how important the super guppy was, and now every time I see it I like to watch and take pictures as it flys by. It's home is El Paso Tx where I grew up and still live. The super guppy still gets flown several times a year and it's an awesome thing to see lumbering through the sky.
I had the pleasure of seeing Super Guppy at the 2015 Andrew's AFB air show. It's such a unique aircraft.
That's a thicc plane right there
Is spelled *That's a thick plane there*

It's so satisfying how perfectly the name "guppy" fits the look of this plane
Guppy : cannot carry the third stage.
Super guppy: lemme introduce myself.
I flew KC-97s in the 1950s (the same bird, 52932, for 3.5 years) and can attest to the 377's solid constkuction. Great historical show.
It’s amazing how much a certain thing can advance.
This is an excellent example of Neil Armstrong’s famous quote; “This one small step, Is one giant leap for mankind”
We used to see the Super Guppy flying over our house out of Ellington field all the time. Thanks for the video and the memories.
Got to walk through the Super Guppy in El Paso, TX
Amazing aircraft!
How do you consistently manage to produce such brilliant videos! The topic you chose was so interesting. I was engrossed. The information was presented wonderfully. I loved the extensive usage of video clips.
Thank you!
I remember the guppies at Santa Barbara CA airport where I think they were made. Conroy had an open house and and again. He left the company and went to the other end of the airport and started Conroy Aviation where he converted various aircraft by re-engining them with RR DART turbo jets including DC-3s
0:20 i feel the sudden urge to watch megamind
I watched it right after I watched this
I watch it every day, it's my religion
Very informative narration was perfect, look forward to hearing more from you and this program!

This is a newer guppy, what happened to the guppy used during WWII (original guppy) used for the war effort, original guppy was made by Douglas. Last one I saw was outside a airport on display. Same looking body, smaller and army green.
Again, a thoughtful and educative video. 👏👍
Thanks for showing the history of one of my favorite - but so little known - planes of the 1960s. 🤗
Ah, I used to see these fly in to Manchester carrying Airbus parts. Beautiful!
last time I was this early it was ''Launch America''
I remembered Guppy from a long time ago having read about some weird planes and even back then I thought 'full on plane gangstah'.
He must've been 'Yeah, chop this in half, weld this in, slap that massive metal whale carcass thing on the top and bingo, we're in the rocket transportation biz!'
Yesss a new video and a collab with Astrum I'm soooooo happy
NASA: It probably can't even take off much less carry what we need it to
Gubby: Observe...
I remeber seeing the Guppy at Redstone Arsenal Alabama during the Saturn 5 development project in the mid sixties. Quite a sight to see.
Loved your collab with Astrum!
The thing in the plane in the thumbnail just looks like a giant cork lmao
Saw you on Astrum and came to check out the channel. Nice video.
Thanks for posting. I had the opporunity to see a rocket launch in 2018. Memorable experience. I shared a pretty solid video of the experience on my page.
I remember this they taught us this in school. Thank you for sharing!!
Was it a church school
Ah just like the super crane that builds all the other cranes
Everyone:Omg Apollo 11 crew was so brave they never got scared omgggg
Jim Lovell and the boys: *K*
I like your timing with the editing. Nice tempo.
Me too
Yay, another video about space!
And I thought Airbus Beluga was an original design. Yet again, Aerospace research proves that it can give birth to useful offshoot technology for the future.
As ti why is the channel still under 500k subs is beyond me
at 0:33 where is this originally taken from? This video clip is in many of your videos (and understand why, it looks awesome)
The name has been changed from “NASA’s secret weapon”
Nope.
@@tomf3150 Well, I don’t know how long ago it got changed back, but I made this comment when the title was changed soon after release from this to something else.
Damn, I saw the AN-225 on there and immediately felt sad
Cool to see these planes still flying in and out of NASA's Ellington field in Houston
NordVPN PSA: do your research before deciding to give them your money or data.
Coleo Yep, it's good for a few things but not for general internet usage. Watch Tom Scott's video
You‘re voice is so soothing, helps me fall asleep
Same
The infrastructure of this project deserves to be celebrated thankyou!
One of the men who flies this plane is a youtuber. Check out his channel "Unusual Attitudes". He has some really cool content on it.
Neat! Cool to see as well that these 'heavy lift' aircraft are still being used to transport rocket parts today. How long will it be before sounding rockets are used to transport littler rockets?
I’m sure they would of had the 20 day barge trip over before they built and designed a entire new aircraft
Wait? Payloads meant to go into the vacuum of space couldn't be loaded onto an unpressurised plane?
You overlooked an important bit of history. The Boeing Stratocruiser and KC-97 were developments of the Boeing B-29.
Great collab! I wish one day we can make a collab together :)
John Conroy: You know what im talking?
Super Guppy: *Big brain Time!*
Guppy is so cute with a *BIG BRAIN*
NASA - we are going to space !!!!
Also NASA - but how do we assembly in earth first ???
What a nice video! How did u do like that?
Yes
I agree
I would be happy to see Mustard to feature this plane too!
Airbus Industrie, the company that went on to designed the Beluga (based on a300) and beluga XL (based on a330), was built by this aircraft. Without this aircraft, the a300 wont be possible.
rip the antonov
When i saw the first parts of the video i thought beluga already existed
I love the channel keep up the good work👍
These huge cargobay of the super guppy is preasurised!? The huge surface must lead to tremandous skinstress...
How did they make this work?
Cool plane excellent video thank you thumbs up stay awesome and have a great day everyone.
It was great when I got to go inside at Ellington.
Siiiick!
Make those things a bit fatter and might aswell flush them with Helium and call them Zeplins.
This is like the floor is floor but the plane is rocket
In summers they'll be using guppy for transporting beer cans !
Guppy is pretty darn cool lol
i see the beluga fight quite often
it's pretty big even if i see him from the ground
I love the name guppy idk why it just sounds so cute
I’m loving your channel
Necessity is the mother of invention.
I've seen the super guppy, that thing is huge.
Failed to mention Boeing’s 747 based dream lifter when mentioning inspiring some modern air-lifters.
They’re the big little aircraft that could.
Uhm may I order an extra thicc plane?
Sure here's GUPPY
Supper guppy made me burst into laughter
Spacex needs a mega guppy
0:32 can someone tell me what the picture is?
And now im early to the extremely calming voice!
Yea, cuz purchasing multiple airplanes and reshaping them so a random pilot can fly an almost priceless equipment takes less time than going on a boat trip.
Now thats a *THICC* plane

My brain: it looks like nasa is transporting the worlds largest wheel of cheese✈️🧀
get in there lewis.. oh sorry.. get in there guppy.
This man knows what he's talking about. How do I know?

SuperGuppy had turbine engines... it also hinged from the nose.
I went inside a Super Guppy. It was thicc...
Pretty interesting actually
You lost me at 5:40😂
Saturn V❤
I got to go see guppy in person at the air museum in Arizona and I have a picture next to it. I’m about 6 foot and I look like a pixel next to it 😂 gray experience tho 💯
*edit I meant the super guppy
Guppy is giant in size
I saw this plane in San Diego back in 1969. It was a strange-looking plane in flight.
I have seen it before in person
Imagine if there were passengers they could litterely yell "there's a bomb on board!" And there's nothing you could do ab it cuz it practically is the biggest bomb you've ever seen
