Exactly the video I was looking for!! I have the Sh-01a brand new out of the box and the USB port is so loose. I thought maybe it was damaged but it must be a design flaw!
I have set everything up the way you instructed in this video but at 9:37 when you have audio coming in from devices I do not. I have Roland TB-03 and TR-08 in an aggregate device and Ableton is receiving MIDI from Channel 1 (TB-03) and Channel 2 (TR-08) but no audio is being received from Channels 1-14 (1-12 = TR-08 and 13/14=TB-03) . What do I do to fix this?
FWIW, if anyone comes looking, the boutiques do not work via USB on Windows 10 unless you use a usb 2.0 socket. They will recognize and install the driver through a usb 3.x, but fail when trying to initialize as an audio interface. Pretty shoddy.
Thanks, so no way to set it up as a multitimral drummachine in ableton and acting as a clock at same time? Win10 Ableton 11. TR06 TB03 Digitakt, Fousrite Forte, Soundcraft MTK.
I have a pretty big aggregate device setup (UAD Apollo,MOTU 24Ai, JU,JP,JX,TB03,TR08&TR09). I just got everything playing nice together but I get glitches here and there. I was having a huge problem with devices dropping off and it ended up being a USB 3 hub. The other thing is any device running a sequencer (TB03,09&08) is never going to stay in sync because of jitter. I have an Innerclock SyncGen Pro II to keep them in time. I haven't tried but if you are just using these pieces and no audio from your DAW you may not notice. If you are using loops in Ableton and running theses device no matter how much you adjust the Track Delay or Latency they won't stay in time.
thank you for the tutorial! makes me happy to see Just bought a roland boutique and i'm wondering if they're all connected trough an audio interface with external power sources - would it fix the cpu problem? and how to sync them together? maybe you do have a response, or maybe I should really go for a sound production cursus?) anyway, love your channel, i learn a lot
Can you post a link to the exact type of USB-C cable you're using to connect the Roland Boutique products with? I am having trouble connecting my new JX-08 and I am not sure if its the cable or not. Thank you kindly, your videos are helpful and informative. Subbed and will keep watching.
nice video👍👍👍 i use a tr8 as an audio interface with ableton live (PC) via usb. my problem is i hear the audiosignal twice from the daw and the tr8 how i can fix that to only hear the signal in the daw with fx etc.
If I understand clearly, you send the usb audio from the Tr-8 in Ableton. Then you play your entire Live session back to the TR-8 and hear the TR-8 twice. This is totally normal. The TR-8 should only be used in this case for receiving the sounds from Live excluding the TR-8 sounds. Just don't activate the Monitor in. I don't know of any way to deactivate the hardware audio outs of TR-8 when using USB audio. They both work simultaneously.
I would much rather a 60 or 90 minute video of trial and error compared to 5 minutes of error free instructions on, for example, ASIO for all. If you're thinking about MX-1 vs powered usb hubs believe-you me, a 5 hour video is a good investment and a luxury because I easily learn from another's wrong turns.. "ah doesn't work.... damn... lets try this, no, ah here you go, now there's midi". Great video thank you.
hi ! Google has taken me here as I am searching for a solution to a problem with my Roland JU-06 Boutique; I want to use it in Ableton, but can't get the sounds playing through my speakers (KRK connective via a Roland Duo-Capture to my MacMini). The sounds are coming through the JU-O6's on-board speakers instead of my studio monitors. I installed the driver and the JU-06 is visible in Ableton in my Preferences so I'm guessing drivers aren't the issue. Any idea what I'm missing?
@@Niles7787 Do you any other audio app that can see the JU-06 audio in? Try it with Garage band see if it is seen. If it is then your Live audio settings are wrong.
Can you show how to do this with maschine 2 daw. I'm running komplete kontrol mk2 Maschine mk3 a tr8 and tb03 with a Steinberg u44 interface all on pc. When it's all running smoothly I like to add my alpha juno 1 too.
Marco Van Der Meij, sadly I do have a Maschine 2 and I never used it. On top of that the “aggregated ” device option is a built in option Mac OS. I don’t know of a software that does the same on Windows. I’m not going to be much help for your question.
But what if you want to use Boutiques without aggregate devise (lets say i have a big studio with RME good interface)? Can i setup them in a way to have usb audio on an instrument track?
has anyone tried using seperate audio devices on seperate applications linked via REWIRE? ie: having ableton using your main sound card, and then using the TR-09 connected to REASON which is then linked to ableton via REWIRE? different applications can each use a seperate audio interface (without employung the use of an aggregate device, ie:windows cannot do this without ASIO4ALL?)
@@Nu-trix someone needs to create a vst that can run an asio driver, then you can load multiple instances of that vst with different asio drivers and keep the DAW host with your main soundcard driver that would solve the 1 device only limitation of ASIO in the particular use case of multiple boutiques
I’m looking to buy just the boxes for the TB-03 and TR-08. I bought those boutiques used and they didn’t come with the boxes. Do you have either you’d be willing to sell?
Great video! It parallels the issues I had during the last weeks to get everything up and running. I tried to combine the first gen boutiques (JX-03, JU-06 and JP-08) with the TR-09, SH-01A and TB-03. I use 2 USB 3.0 hubs (each with 7 ports) on both USB ports of my macbook pro. Interestingly, I have two different observations between the first gen boutiques and the other 3. 1) If I switch of the latter 3, but keep my macbook pro on, I need to completely restart my macbook pro, If I want to use the latter 3 again (switching those 3 boutiques on again doesn't work for me. Even restarting Ableton doesn't help). In contrast, the 3 first gen. boutiques can be switch on and off without any issue. No clue what can explain the difference, maybe the firmware of the boutiques. Any thoughts on this? 2) I actually want to play the sounds from the different boutiques from a midi controller keyboard (NI Komplete Kontrol S49). I can make it work for the latter 3 boutiques, but not for the first generation boutiques.... I have no clear answer why it doesn't work with the first generation boutiques... Do you have any suggestion on how to set up best the boutiques with a midi controller? FYI, everything is placed in one aggregated device, similar to your setup. One additional question, do you see any benefits of connecting all the boutiques via a mixer (e.g. Mackie or Yamaha with 8-12-or 16 channels, compared with the setup with the usb hubs? Thanks again for the videos on the boutique series.
Have you tried to switch the USB HUB between the Mac USB connectors. It could be related to the USB chipset? I'm able to turn off and on the 2017's Gen Boutiques it they usually show up. I Might have to restart Live, but not the computer. I do not work like this for creation and performing, I feel it puts to much strain on the MAC. And Aggregate device is not always stable... I put everything in my Roland MX-1. I will be doing a video about how I use the MX-1 with Boutiques and the rest of my gear soon.
Hello Synth Guy. I'm connecting my boutiques exactly the same way you do but I keep having this problem, after about 10 minutes of playing with the rolands, the sound starts to glitch, at the beginning it sounds like little signal clippings and then it continues to distort until everything sounds crap. I've searched a way for solving this issue but no luck. I'm running out of ideas so I can only think this is a RAM shortage. Thanks in advance.
It seems to be a wordclock sync problem. It sadly happens with USB audio from different devices. They often are sending audio without listening to the speed of the other devices. They can gradually become out of sync and when this happen in digital audio it creates glitches.
This happened to me today too .Thought it was something wrong with the sound card of the synth ore the driver. Was about to give up, but turn out it was the usb hub in my case. When I connected SH 01A directly to my Mac the problem went away.
This video is a godsend. i never thought of combining all devices, i am combining behringer model d. Roland tr8s, motu M4, Roland JU-06A
Great info. I wish someone would do the same but with a pc, is this possible (only ever seen it done on a Mac)

thank you, this video helped me set up my rig.

It should. The agregate should appear to any DAW as a single interface.
