- In this week's photography tutorial I visit an amazing field of sunflowers at the end of the summer season to capture beautiful wide-angle sunset photos as well close up photos with sunbursts and flares. I give my tips for finding great compositions with flowers and how I use my camera settings to achieve sharp shots and good exposures.
I also show how I shoot for focus stacking and how I underexpose a scene to protect highlights in a vibrant sunset sky.
Big thanks to the Balgone Estate for letting me visit their site out of hours. You can check out their website to book for next year's sunflower walks or for their pumpkin picking later in the year:

what a beautiful day in the twilight zone
v nice flowers, too
Love sunflowers, they are my favourite flower. Great to see them in such a lovely light and thank you for the tips as always
Thank you for watching, Gale, much appreciated!
Sunflowers are my all time favorites! Beautiful!
Thank you!
Among my favourite flowers, the sun. Lovely vid.
Some of your photos i would gladly put on my wall! Wow beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Diane, that's very kind! I'll make sure to include some of these in any print sales I do!
Very, very nice shots! Thanks for taking us there.
Glad to see a new video from you, and this place is awesome. And your shots were so good, the photo with the mountain between the doors though, that one gotta be my favorite. But so many nice photos with amazing lighting and comps.
I found the advice really useful. Thanks for producing such an interesting video.
Thanks so much for watching, I'm glad you found it helpful!
Great video - lots of nice images, but those last few are incredible!!!
Thanks Linda, much appreciated!
Thanks for this informative yet enjoying video. Totally agree with your technique to under expose since it's easier to recover shadow detail than it is to pull back highlights. I do the same.
Thanks very much for watching!
Goes to show how nice of a day you can have when you're willing to simply ask permission to photograph on someone's land.
I'd say the photo with a mountain framed in the door is my favorite.
Great video
Thanks for watching!
Very nice place. My favourites are at 4:01, 10:42 and 12:01 … the doors add a fairytale impression to this sunflower field. I saw it before in other flower fields, where they placed oversized furniture like chairs and tables. Beautiful, cheers …
Good choices! Oversized furniture would be really fun too. Definitely a very fairytale vibe and I think it works well with the massive sunflowers. Thanks for watching!
I LOVED these flowers! Any favs among the bunch?
I love this video. My favorites are the ones with the backlight,. What lens did you use? I don't think you mentioned it, but I could have missed it.
Thanks so much! I didn't say, but it was the 24-105 f4
Close. 24-105 f4!
Great video - have you gone down to the lakes there? One of my favourite places to go - I think you'd love it. Let me know if you'd like to do a meet up and I can show you around all the ins and outs there..............😊
❤ 🌻👊🙏👊🌻❤️
I loved this. I was in my local park yesterday photographing Jerusalem artichoke flowers which look a bit like a sunflower crossed with a daisy.😮 I was there at mid day but managed to get some backlit shots and isolated shots. I love flower photography 😍
Thanks so much, Louise! I haven't photographed artichoke flowers but I bet they look amazing in those conditions!
