control, run, pass. that's it. three things. being midfielder is simple. Denis Irwin? he could do that easily. never injured. good character. top lad.
….thats his job
great servant… imagine if he was playing today… my god left back right back he‘d be worth 2 billion
Fantastic room mate
Obviously I roomed with Denis for years
He could get you a goal
Roy Keane is probably the only person that can say “soccer” and get away with it.
"Football" in Ireland usually refers to Gaelic football. I'd imagine it's just habit for him.
And GBH on the pitch apparently
Why , are you scared of him?
@@petersmith4315 no its called respect to a legend who has earnt the respect of so many
Football in Ireland is Gaelic
Keane could’ve easily said these players weren’t going to win anything without me but he kept it humble
So humble , makes me love him even more. Greatest captain to grace English football and one the greatest midfielders of his generation. World class
Diffently,
Chip on each shoulder.
Absolutely agree he’s a football legend I love listening to him
Agreed
One of the best Captains of all time in Football History 💯
Keep it simple but do it with passion and integrity .
Good solid principles that will take people far , not just in football or...."soccer" , I give you that one Roy .
Brilliant player & leader! I could listen to Roy talk all day about these stories and experience.
Who Couldn't
My favorite central midfielder of all time. And I am a huge Milan fan who grew up watching the italian league being superior. This guy was one of a kind.
Irish Gattusso
My favourite also and I support Liverpool. Anytime United were playing on sky Live I used watch Keane more than the game he was just in control of everything. Execpanul player. Everyone says Henry was the best. But a guy who can score and defend and pass anf run and never get injured apart from the one he got against Leeds. Yeah Roy was by far the best all round player Iv seen and he would play for Any team of any era
Roy was a great player and for me the best midfielder in PL history but surely being a Milan fan you would say Gullit or Rijkaard were better midfielder. But I can be persuaded either way
For such a great footballer Roy had a hard time getting clubs to look at him he sent letter to clubs and they never listend my grand father was a Rockmount player and he told me that Forrest had a scout at a Cobh Ramblers game looking at another player and they saw Roy. But I just think of all the clubs who ignored him made Roy the player i loved to watch even though I don't support United anytime I saw United on TV I'd watch Keane more than the game. I'd see how he ran all over the pitch how he kept a shape in the midfield if you study a good player for 90 minutes you will see why many players put him in there favourite 11. And in todays game I'm always looking at player to see could they be the next Keane iv not seen anyone as good at passing , running , tackles well you probably get a yellow if you tackle like he did. He is my favourite player of the premier league era. And I'm a Liverpool fan even Stephen Gerrard was not as up there as Keane was in my opinion
Gerrard never came close as a midfielder that's why he played in so many different positions as he couldn't control the game
MNF from 2019 is considered retro now, how old that makes me feel 😭
The first covid lockdown felt like a age away and this was just before the first lockdown
Its just so Sly can make money of you tube like as if they needed it
@@JimmyRoche420 don’t be jealous little boy
@@dylanmulroe9978 Jealous of sky why would I be Jealous I was just explaining why they put out content like this for the cash. And by the way I could listen to Roy all day. He is the only guy on sky that speaks the truth
'A cup of tea and a biscuit, not for me'
Nansence
The reason he says soccer ⚽ is because there's also Gaelic football in Ireland 🇮🇪
pass, move, tackle, keep composed, the 4 main roles of a central midfielder and he did all of them exceptionally, from a liverpool fan, i did boo the hell out of him at the legends game but an absolute hero of the league
Apart from all the times he wasn't composed and got sent off ;)
@@al_5655 Dude he always had reasons for getting sent off.
move
well if he couldnt do that then thatd have be a real concern
@@GM_FtblA Ah you simply missed the point and he said s 💯 correct players and fans such as yourself simply do not understand the concept.
Booing, how cringe of you.
A Chelsea fan from Kenya, I loved Roy Keane ,and later Carrick at united
The Man United Arsenal rivalry between 97-05 was the golden era of football
The most important player in Manchester United's most successful period. Did he say "when i did become the manager" lol in a way he kind of was when you hear the other players talk, they almost wanted to win because of Keane as much as Ferguson even down to making sure they weren't late and dressed right and gave 100% every training session and every game
People forget how good a footballer roy Keane was, wasn't just the best enforcer/captain I've ever seen, before his injuries he was box to box and even post injury, rarely, if ever gave the ball away, would defend the lines like his life depended on it and drive the team forward, a pivotal player in every sense of the word.
Bossed games that had deschamps, David's, conte and Zidane?
A dominant player if ever there was one.
I have not seen a box to Box Midfield player sense Roy Keane Gerrard and Lampard really. When people say box to Box player. There aren't any that come to mind in todays game
Err, I don’t think anybody forgets how good he was.
100%...so underrated in terms of footballing ability. When people talk about the best they can usually point to skill, speed, finishing, passing, dribbling & such. It's harder with Keane cos he didn't stand out as much technically, he was more of a guy that just done everything really well but the best way to describe him is as you say; not to point to technical stats but to his influence & dominance that he just seemed to be able to enforce on games & players. We see technically brilliant players fail all the time in sport, his career if anything shows just how important the mental side of the game is to making it to the top of any sport.
@@sirdiddymus9963 Agree 100%
@@NH-bz9jv you'd be surprised.
My brothers claim to fame was keeping him out of a Cork Schoolboys Team 😂😂 A seriously impressive player , made Utd what they were . Another Cork man Denis Irwin, absolutely brilliant. Two fantastic representatives for The Rebel County
John Barnes did control, pass and jog with the belly in his latter years. LEGEND
What a man to play alongside. What a player. What a man.
🤣
look at carragher's body language. He is in awe of Roy.
Fascinating
In Ireland we call GAA football and football soccer. But also depends on what county you grew up in.
Further from Dublin the less soccer is used 😂😂
Or who you're speaking to. If you work in the US or with people from the US its just more straight forward to say pants instead of saying trousers and then spending 30 seconds explaining what trousers are.
Roy Keane Genius
Control, run and pass..that’s what I adhered to when I was playing..coz keep it simple was the thing that coaches say to you
Great captain great leader
My favourite player. Easily
control, run, pass.
It's incredible as I was telling a rugby head the basis of my all conquering-game was instant control, instant movement, instant pass.
it's how I win every match that I play
and
100% factual, that a lot of players cannot
e.g. do55h!t Sterling
@@jamesburke2094 it's not that they can't, it's that they don't.
@@kb5509 foolish remark
I can identify them
and they're the same players that have a long history of dragging results and quality of team performance down ... so there's no denying the fact that they cant
@@jamesburke2094 weird sensitivity. Professional footballers can control the ball, pass it and run. That is simply a fact. Whether they do it to your specific standards is completely different.
Which footballers have you identified? And what football are you watching, mostly the big ones?
I really like Roy Kean..
Keane calls it "soccer" yet no one here is questioning it. Says it all about him
He calls it soccer because loads of Irish people call it that.
@@kb5509 Yeah but if an american said it we'd be fuming with them.
@@matty7788 uninformed English people are just that. It's a word created in England, by English people and used on pretty frequent basis until the 70s.
@@matty7788 I don’t get that. I’m Irish, I call it both soccer and football, it depends who I’m talking to. In the US they have their own version of football, like we do here with Gaelic football. It’s only normal there will be a way to distinguish between the two.
Top 5 players ever according to roy
Irwin
Maradona
Messi/ronaldo
Denis
He's right keep it simple
Clough n Fergie mentality is what took this hard working lad to the top.
They don't make character like him anymore
Mick McCarthy being one of those who can't do those 3 things.
Jamie Carragher sitting there wishing he had one of them three things…
The fact that he called it soccer and half the comments aren't trying to correct him lol
Greatest captain for man United
UTD are missing personalities like him atm. You don't get them these days. Players now are all laughing n smiling before matches.. Back then it was about going to war!.
So are Liverpool and everyone else who'd name isn't Manchester City. The league game the other day Citys one was on TV I was playing poker during it because passing is good to win games but City pass so much 😴 its boring to be fair
"...and a biscuit.....not for me."
Genuine question is saying soccer a Southern Irish thing too?
Yeah, football in Ireland normally refers to Gaelic football. Soccer is actually a British term anyway
@@jackbauer4762 I see
Yeah comes from the full name Association Football. Association being shortened to Soccer
Of course he was lucky he's Irish
He's softened his stance on Alex Ferguson
This is an old interview. He's always been firm but fair on the Fergusin issue.
Yes. That's a point on the board for Soccer 🇺🇸
irish thing due to gaelic.
Irish thing - you play American Football that isn't even football that the world doesn't watch
@@markshirley01 the Gaelic football they play in Ireland, very similar to American football
@@markshirley01 Yes people watch it
I have to b honest i hate man u n hated fergie, keane etc. However i am older now maybe not wiser but have nothin but respect for who is likely to remain the GOAT of British managers the trophy wins is immense. I think mr keane deserves massive respect as he was fiercely passionate as player, as a commentator he gives credit where its due n same with critisising where its due. Still hate man u thou but that team was in a word. Outstanding..
Cup of tea and biscuits lol
Anybody else catch that Freudian slip?
No but I'm sure I will notice after i become the manager
@4:42: Freudian slip? 😳
Did he say he became manager???
Yes, but at other clubs.. ipswich was one i think. But styles of coaching were changing and it all went terribly wrong..less the hardman, and now about love and support!!!
@@neildean7515 it didn't go terribly wrong. He did well at Sunderland and disappointing at Ipswich, as every manager has there for 20 years.
What's the hairdryer ??
Fans know sweet fa about football
All mid fielders by and large have the same job to do.
I wonder he is sponsored by Denis irwin to talk about him at every turn
Translation: just brutally broke some player’s legs
After having walked out on his country

Never forget watching Keane back down in fear at Shearer. Good midfielder though
Rubbish! 😂 Watch that video again, he doesn’t back down. He realises he’s made a stupid mistake and is about to get sent off though.
Soccer do me a favour
Cup o' tea and a biscuit? Nonsense.
Soccer? Nonsense.
And that’s why he’s a rubbish manager . Love him as a player though:)
He wasn't a rubbish manager.
@@kb5509 you think?:)
Not for me Guinness. Did a good job at Sunderland. Not many managers could take a team bottom of the championship and go on to win it. Kept them up the following season as well. Don’t know many rubbish mangers who could do that 😊
PAUL SCHOLES
Did he just say Soccer? 😮
It's an Irish-context thing. There is GAA gaelic football in Ireland which is referred to as football there. So soccer distinguishes from it.
Whatever, just a word. Word are only a tool to express your thoughts. You understood. Whatever.
Most english speaking countries have other codes of football that are just as popular as soccer, Gaelic football, Aussie rules, Rugby in NZ etc.

Sky is so false its bollocks
People , please don't be such a sycophant when worshipping this guy, Alife Haaland will get to see his son become the best striker of all time, Roy Keane might get a crap job managing a championship side, or even his daughters instagram account
and therefore when it comes to worshipping what relevancy does what is happening after their playing careers have with it? your essentially disproving your point as your showing the only reason alfie haaland is half known is because of his son, doesnt mean much for his own playing career does it? He was a decent player but won absolutely nothing and did nothing of note, while keane won 19 major trophies and is arguably the greatest premier league captain of all time so yes people will worship him. no one is worshiping alfie for producing erling, just erling himself.
We all know that if Roy had shagged Alfies wife, Haaland would be even better now
@@yayeet6586 Peter obviously thinks Alfie's Norwegian 3rd division cup is on par with 19 Keane's trophies.
Alf Haaland is a nobody who's only 2 claims to fame are his son, and being annihilated by Roy Keane (clean tackle btw). I'm sure Roy and his 7 PL titles will be doing just fine.
Roy Keane has won everything you can win in football, Alfie won what exactly? Why bring their children into this?
Keane says it’s luck but from watching him at Forrest and onwards there’s nothing lucky about it
A genius
We’ve all aged a lot in the past few years.
