- What Minecraft names are illegal (not allowed)? What if I told you some people found a way to put basically anything in their Minecraft name on their accounts. It's pretty cool.

Players used special characters and spaces in their usernames. Players used really short and long names, and even duplicate Minecraft accounts. These accounts are rare, probably some of the rarest.
Most Minecraft Servers and server admins and ops can't ban these accounts because of their username contents.
They're not really hackers although it's the type of thing you could see hackers doing. (Minecraft hackers of course)

Also, here's some small clarifications for those that are picky;
1. Obviously some sites support spaces, although most sites that have "usernames" do not, usually ones that you use emails to log in with do (i.e. discord).
2. You're not completely invincible with a space in your name, servers can ban you with your UUID, ALTHOUGH, I'm a developer and most developers would recognize that most servers don't have that functionality coded in by default(because when would you need it, right?), and even if they do it's an extra step that makes it take much longer to ban someone.
3. Spaces can be used in names on bedrock edition / mobile, I'm talking about Java Edition names mostly.

On console bedrock edition (on the switch idk if it works on xbox or play station) your username is your nintendo switch profile name, even if you're signed in. Even if you use special symbols it will let you and commands wont work on you.

Christopher Gay 3 $ was created by a random player, someone actually got it. In late 2019 or 2018 I don’t remember. It was locked not so long after. 8, G, F and $ were owned by players. Marc from mojang owns X

my friend has a space in their minecraft name but you can’t even find it by searching because we’re on bedrock version. I think we’ve managed to get away with it tho because on bedrock, spaces are normalised and if you try to TP or something it puts speech marks around it to show it’s a username

I don't know if anyone knows this, but in Bedrock Edition, you can have spaces in your names and still run commands on yourself. All you need to do is add the quotation marks ("") and it is actually possible

Minecraft Bedrock Xbox accounts actually can have spaces. At least, to my knowledge of a few years prior.
When I first made my account, i named it "Icicle Creeper 7" and there was no problem.
(albiet the commands actually doesn't work because of the spaces..)
I had to make another account because I couldn't change my name to get rid of the spaces.

I know how to make one. BUT I don't recommend on mojang's part.
What you have to do is play on a recently made console, but I'll use the Nintendo switch for example. If you put a space in your Nintendo switch account, because Nintendo Minecraft copies your Nintendo account name EXACTLY it will keep the space, symbol, or swear in the name.

Except it does work like that, you can use single or double quotations, so you could ban someone with a space in their name
Because MineCraft is so customization focused and commands are expected they didn't want to have to make scripters code the ability to use spaces in every single plugin/mod.
The things that go in sets of single or double quotes are usually strings or characters (and sometimes even comments), at least in programming. Strings are not the same as names. In fact, in almost all programming languages, your variable/function/method/class/struct/object/whatever names are limited to a very narrow set of characters. I have no idea why you bring up programming languages to begin with, they have nothing to do with the implementation of a username system in a video game.
With that said, I think it is _definitely_ possible to implement names with spaces in them. It's just too complicated/troublesome and not worth it in my opinion.
Not sure what any of you are talking about. You can use spaces in names just the official naming servers don’t allow it. For example using a “hacked client”. To ban someone, etc to just escape the space like you would with most regex, etc for example “ban first\ last” if the name was “first last”.
Well technically the /ban command expects a string afterwards so you could put "" on the name for example /ban "Daniel B" reason and it should work. At least that works in bedrock edition where spaces are allowed because minecraft names are linked to xbox live names

Are other special characters allowed in other versions of the game? Because if so, there is such thing as an invisible character that looks like a space but is actually just invisible. If it wasn't another character, I think you could generate an empty space (that is not actually empty) with a sequence.

Nintendo switch players have their nintendo acc name for their mc name, which can have a space in it. Nowadays, it’s pretty easy to have a space in your name. Also, if your name was for example: “Big Boi,” to use a command on them you would type: “/Ban (Big Boi)” and it will recognize the username. My friend on the switch has a space on their name, and that’s how you can still use commands on them. Again, the way to put a space in your name is only by using a nintendo account. But for the ppl with spaces before the switch, yea im stuck there.

Easy way to do it , create a account on console then go onto bedrock and it will use your console name where consoles are not as strict so you bypass the account name then use that account and transfers to Java

I think I know how to put a space in your account. There is this one website that has an invisible character that you can copy and paste, so when creating an account it will let you do it because it's not technically a space, just an invisible character.
My brothers username had a space in it and i could not do commands on him. We were playing on the pocket edition were you can name yourself anything but the space stayed when we moved to java. After a little it changed to no space. You do not need an account to use pocket edition.

that's how you ban spaced names, well at least recently in bedrock, just add quotation.
It is not the same in java edition, if a player name is for example "Mr LoL" it would be impossible, in every punishment plugin you have to write "/ban (playername) (reason) (time) (timeformat) so the other part of the name would be mistaken as a the reason of the ban. A way to fix this would be banning the IP of the player or the uuid

I know how it works if you have a microsof account the username automatically becomes your minecraft account username so if your Microsoft account has a space your minecraft name has a space i once had a name with a space but i changed lt eventually a long time ago
