The Succedent House Meanings in Childhood and Retirement

  • Today, we're going to continue looking at the meanings of the houses with specific attention to how the meanings of the houses may shift or change at different times of life. Sort of breaking life into three stages in this series. We've got childhood, and then we have the sort of mid-life range, which is what most people are used to when they hear about the meanings of the houses. Then we have another stage of life, which is, you know, retirement. If life were broken into three acts, let's call it the third act. I'm doing this because, in the comments section of a lot of my horoscopes, I get people saying, Hey, I'm retired, could you talk about what this might mean?

If you're considering taking Adam's classes, do it... it's a real game-changer in terms of understanding the inherent meanings in astrology from a foundational perspective. Your ability to synthesize meaningful interpretations in your readings will definitely go to the next level. Highly recommend!

My daughter is in grad school for music w/ Mars in Scorpio in the 2nd. She literally has to use a special knife & razor blades every day to make reeds for her oboe & then sells them as well. Also a weight lifter! Not even getting into her 5 planet stellium in the 5th. 😂

Thank you Adam. I am recently retired, enjoying and taking your classes but still raising a teenager, enjoying time with a three year old and 18 month old grandsons. I have listened to the first series on the houses with this subject. I look forward to learning as much as I can. You have a wonderful way of making sense of this amazing Cosmos. I am looking forward to the next Master Class on Temperament. Thanks for all you do and give from your heart.

What an enlightening series! I'm one of those elders myself (proud to say), and this is very interesting and eye-opening in reviewing my chart placements. It is a vantage point of wisdom gained throughout life and savoring each day for all it brings. It's a very good time of life. Each stage has its challenges and rewards. I found out how much I LOVE astrology! Thanks Adam!

Sometimes I find it useful to compare what different traditions of astrology had to say about a certain symbol. For example in the west we see the 2nd house very blandly as money and livelihood and possessions. In vedic astrology for example, the 2nd is much more about "resources" and "support". So, not only does it talk about wealth, but also family and education (how we were supported and nurtured by family and parenting), friends who are like family (allies) and food or nourishment. It's much more archetypal and useful than just seeing it as money. As a young man who was once a kid a 8th house stellium, it can talk a lot about the types of punishments the kid gets, as well as what fears or traumas that the kid as to deal with while growing up.

@@lisasmith3657 vedic astrology does not necessarily entail "organize religion". Vedic knowledge is just a way of explaining the word, not necessarily a religion because "hinduism" is something different and has many practices. Vedic knowledge creates depth to our understanding of the practice and the symbols themselves. For example, when a vedic astrologer says that the Moon symbolizes the "mind" (manas) it is referring to the very specific concept of the thing that experiences subjective reality, which as desires and basic needs to be fulfilled. It immediately links that symbol to a concept in that body of knowledge. Western astrology was also connected with a system of knowledge. For example, the Moon is "fortune", Venus is good fortune and Mars is bad fortune. If we don't understand what "fortune" entails and what "good" or "bad" means according to that philosophy, we can't understand the planets of the night sect and their meanings properly. The problem is that hellenistic astrology got disconnected from its body of knowledge and philosophy, and now we learn the symbols without context, because we don't have philosophy attached to it and they are not teached together. I'm not a vedic astrologer tho, and sometimes I find things that don't make sense or were just lost in translation. I choose to primarily learn hellenistic because I'm from a mediterranean country. Namaste for you too 😊

This was actually a topic I wanted to re-read in Anthology since it appeared Valens was using quadrants for strength and timing. Natal Mercury retrograde, I felt “aggressed” by that mercury comment. 😜 kidding. I’ve learned it’s best to skim and depth read once something shows to be relevant later. I skimmed anthology knowing I’d read it more thoroughly later.
One example is there was a point in my teen years that I became very aware that 9th house topics were accumulating in my 2nd, I just didn’t get to actually looking into that until my Saturn return point and after.
    Good series.

Just call it what it is. I get sick of all the tiptoing around something that is a part of life. They are not golden years.Age IS a number and like I just said to someone who wondered if it was ok to call me a senior, if I wasn't a senior I wouldn't get free money every month. We are not too fragile to think you can't see how old we are.

    • @DaniElle25g

I feel you...but please remember I have a large and diverse audience, and in my experience, people can and do get offended by all sorts of things that I may not be offended by...I've already gotten one email from someone today who was offended even though I qualified the remark (at least I thought I did) with care...so somewhere between being sensitive and not tiptoeing is where I try to land most of the time!

@@Adam-Elenbaas A long time ago I was having a conversation with a senior and I referred to her as older. She said "thanks for not calling me old." Maybe you could try that, but yes, there's always someone who will be offended no matter what you say.
