I always love when you do Jethro Tull reactions!! I also love that you can appreciate Ian and his style. You can prob tell there are lots of Tull fans out there. Great job as always Heline! 😊 Keep it up and I love your music too!
Ian used to have an echo control box on the floor by his mic stand that he controlled with his foot. He would be able to accompany himself during a solo by playing around his own echoing notes. This was long before sampling so the echo faded as he played and he could add something else into the echo. An amazing effect.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for demonstrating that over-blowing technique. I'm a guitarist, not a floutist, and I really appreciate the knowledge you passed on. When I was young, there was no Internet, just magazines, radio shows, rock videos and friends. That was the only way for a curious, young musician to learn, "How do they make that sound?". This felt like old times. Love your videos.
Not sure if you're aware but Ian Anderson was in recent years diagnosed with C.O.P.D (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) which is an incurable lung disease which must affect his playing/singing these days, but he still manages to put on a good show.... love your reactions to Jethro Tull, it's interesting to hear you talk about Ians playing and I can see you're also amused by his showmanship.... really enjoyable Heline thank you.
He also had vocal fold nodules which combined with the COPD, made him "lose his voice" for a period. Thankfully, he has improved in recent years and can sing again, though not as robustly as he did in his younger years.
You should check out witches promise especially the intro... It's one of the very early singles Tull released way back in 69 or 1970. I still find it amazing and never get tired of hearing it
I love the combination of flute and mellotron keyboard at the beginning of this track. It's like a bird flying over a sinister landscape. I'd love to hear you react to my favourite of their songs "Reasons for Waiting", which uses two flutes harmonising.
On the fingering, Anderson has stated that that he used the old "improper" fingering for almost 30 years until his daughter, who began studying the flute in school, came home and he learned that he had been doing it wrong for all that time. He took time off to learn the proper fingering and has used it ever since (ie, for the past 25 years).
@@HelineFay Bursting Out is a very good quality concert with their main hits and tunes like, 'No Lullaby', 'Minstrel In The Gallery' and 'Jack In The Green', but, alas, no video footage, as you surely found out a while back.
Really cool to know classical musicians can appreciate Rock, and that you dig Mr. Anderson and his works. The music teacher we had back in HS ( a pianist, if I recall ) hated the genre, and always gave me the impression that classical/jazz folk look down on rock. The opening flute part... it has a 'sinister' tone to it, to my ears. Maybe a 'foreboding sound' would be better. Never would have reckoned a flute could express portents or feelings of an oncoming Evil, like seeing a thunderhead slowly creeping it's way towards you, smothering the sky in dark gray.
I think especially in older generations of teachers the classical "is the only right way" and that is quite sad. A lot of newly composed "classical" flute music has a lot of fun things like flutter, glissandos, whistles and what not written in them.
I saw Tull in the 80's and Ian started the show by doing this crazy high step running thing down the stairs along the side of the auditorium to the stage. While he was doing this crazy high stepping he was spinning his flute and for the life of me I don't know how he was doing it but it looked really cool. The lights went down and suddenly there he was lit up by a spot light and down the stairs he ran it was great.
only 2 days ago I sound engineered a band with a flute player who also sang through the same mic. At first I had problems getting his flute to come through enough because the volume level was different from his singing.
I agree, with time we hopefully sharpen our skills as musician...and If I lived in your neighborhood there`s no doubt I`d be calling for lessons...to have a secondary instrument say like alto sax perhaps...keep on rockin, Sugar
So in the beginning of the video it showed the roadies setting up- no way in hell I could ever be a roadie for Tull, Ian Anderson walks by , I’d be bowing in deference and in total shock, Martin barre same thing, I’d get no work done from being in awe at all the talent and virtuosity walking around. For Helene- Pinky!!
Hola! Ads in middle of music is the best way to break the song mood. Instead of putting them on pause/comments timing. I'll not go deeper in the channel then. Good luck.
The older version u are mentioned - the strobing only last a minute + / ~ . The rest of video is normal - u should react to it. Another one u should react to is Budapest live . Love your reviews and accent 👌🏼
Eu sou fã do Jethro Tull desde criança.
Yes, his playing is much better than back in the '70's (and it was impressive then), but his stage movement is nothing at all like it was back then! C'mon, the guy's 76 years old!
Unfortunately going through different versions spoils it to me and the reaction then wouldn't be a first time reaction. So I just trust with what people suggest and a trusted person usually checks if it's ok for the channel.

Nice to see a Jethro Tull reaction in a later period of the band. True love Jethro Tull. 🎸🎻🎤

Tull is Tull, nothing more needs to be said. There will never be another Tull.

I really enjoyed this reaction video. You seemed to really enjoy Ian’s singing and playing. Looking forward to seeing more of these videos.
It's so very cool to see your reaction to this and you explain the music. I've been listening to that album since I as 10 years old
Many thanks for today's choice.
A great song from one of Jethro Tull's best albums. 😃
I love your reaction videos🎶🎶🌹🌹You are a wonderful flute player. #neverstopplayflute Heline. Lots of love to you and your lovely dogs
Fun video and great explanations
I'll be listening for that harmonics thing in a future improvisation.
I love the combination of flute and mellotron keyboard at the beginning of this track. It's like a bird flying over a sinister landscape. I'd love to hear you react to my favourite of their songs "Reasons for Waiting", which uses two flutes harmonising.
I love your openness to Anderson, your genuine appreciation.
Lifetime, achievement award for the heavy metal flute

Check out Wounded Old and Treacherous from the Roots to Branches album. It's one of Ian's best flute performances IMO.
Thank you Haline, for showing how he create th?at sound. I've tried for years.
You might want to check out his flute solo from the Bursting Out Tour (and resulting album). Amazing stuff! 👍
I'll write that down!

This footage is from a DVD called Jethro Tull, Living With The Past. If you're a Tull fan it's a must have.
I've always found this to be a very eerie song.
I saw Tull in the 80's and Ian started the show by doing this crazy high step running thing down the stairs along the side of the auditorium to the stage.

The BBC sessions recording of Stormy Monday Blues has some of his best on it.

He s always changing the melodiy . Every fuckin time
Always enjoy your videos with Ian Anderson.
Glad to hear it

the only ad I put in the middle was right after my talk, before music starting. The music starts right after the ad, not during it :)
I subscribed cause you deserve subscriptions!
Try-The Allman Brothers bandsog called-can't you see. Canned heat uses the flute alot,an early heart has alot of flute playing
I love how she says Jethro :)
Love this!!
"Clever"? Brilliant!
I like when Heline reviews Yettro Tull. I would like to meet you.
Ian is one of the smartest and talented guys on earth !
Did you ever get to meet Ian Anderson?
Mi cancion favorita de jetro.
Check out The Association - Along Comes Mary!
Only a music nerd would point out where where the audio is coming from 😊
Hermeto Pascoal.
Amazing Brazilian Composer.

Lovely!
Yaya watching a cute girl watch and listen to Tull! Woohoo!
I understand your position.
The original album intro is significantly different. I actually prefer the original a bit more.
How would you say Ginger or Genesis? Say it like Gethro not Yethro
Funny he's playing in D minor the original is in E minor sk he had to kearn it in another key
You really need to listen to Camel. Suggest "Rhayder/ The Great Marsh/ Rhayder Goes To Town" live at Birmingham 2014.
Honestly it's a lot "cleaner" from the studio album. Give the album Aqualung a listen

Is Ian Anderson the best flute player in the world?
♥️👍🇩🇰
Please stop interrupting the music and comment after the piece has finished
The timings off
