I do love this song... Heard Blondie's version first and loved it. Heard the original and loved the song even more. I'm a HUGE Blondie fan, but I am partial to the Randy and the Rainbows' version.
March 9th, 2022.I had a blond, blue eyed girlfriend in high school called Denise. Haven't seen her in 55 years don't know if she's still alive. I still love you, Denise. Happy Birthday! I love this song. Thanks for this great video, boys!
Since I was about 10 years old back then, up until the mid 80s when I settled down and got married, all the friends I hung out and run around with made fun of me for the music I liked to listen to. I love music and I always had a wide variety I liked. Bands and groups they never heard of, but produced some legendary tunes like this one that will last forever were the ones to keep. I still have a small library of old 45 rpm records, albums and even cassette tapes I can toss on my old turn table or in my old cassette deck and listen too anytime I want. What's funny when some of these old kooks come to my house for a visit now days, will ask me to put on some of that good ole' music!!!
Being a Blondie fan, I became aware of the original. And because I always hold that the original is the best, I really love Randy & The Rainbows version. Then they wrote, "Debbie" in homage and that made them even more special. Thanks guys for being super!
@@martyrobinson4474 Thanks Marty. Dom was related to Carmella ( Millie) Cassese & My Cousin Elizabeth is her Daughter Inlaw.. She was very proud of Dom and people who knew him admired and loved him.. Dom is now over The Rainbow and in GOD'S HEAVENLY CHOIR. Do you know why Zero started his own Bogus Group?
I always loved that song Denise im almost 48 i heard when i was 4, 44 years is not bad rockk onn m8's im glad you got together and have the unique name Randy and the rainbows just pure awesomness, your style was totally different than the Beatles yours to me shined brighter cause it was something new.
I was a kid when this song was popular. A girl named Denise lived nearby. My brother and I were friends with her for awhile but then started feuding, which caused us to rename her “Disease”.
Those are wonderful insights. I had a crush on a girl named Denise in college and this song really spoke to me. Would always sing along when it was on the car radio.😊
I am 69 yo and was 10 yo when this song came out. I didn;t know anyone who didn;t love it and I still do to this day. All the guys were great but from mytlittle corner of the world I felt that Mike Zero and that incredible falsetto og his should have plated a laeger role in their music. Actually, he was one of the falser=tto voices in music that never got the type of songs that could have made him a household name like Brian Wilson.
MIKE ZERO, my name is Galati, I lived around the corner from you on 72nd st, in Maspeth...I knew you & your brother, Sal...I was 13 when this came out.....Sal used to sing with my cousin, Bob Giacobbe who lived up the st. from you, across from the high school....they called themselves, The Crowns.....Bob quit the band to join the Air Force, you replaced him with the Safuto bros., & changed the name....the rest, as they say,,is history........
Love my song!! Not really. Just my name. Funny soent years hating my name it is french name & love that part of it but, hearing this makes me love my name!!
Completely agree! Was in Ireland recently and Blondie were touring Europe. Read some incredibly cruel, insensitive letters to the editors in one of the papers regarding Debbie’s appearence. The woman is 78 years old! Just infuriated me! I thought “If you pathetic losers had seen her 40+ years ago you wouldn’t have said a damn thing!” But, you know what? Not only is Debbie a legendary beauty, but she’s also incredibly cool! Not surprised at all that she would ask the Rainbows for THEIR autographs. She’s a class act!
Until I was 43 and finally saw the printed lyrics, it sounded to me like "Denise, Denise, open your rifle, dude". I wondered what having the hots for a girl had to do with firearms.
@@arlenroth8373 Thank you, I love these little anecdotal stories in the comment sections. To come to think of it, that people from the industry watch these little gems. It just makes me smile.:)

What tf does the description mean by Denise by The Arrows? Anyway this is my favorite in this series because the song brings back such a special feeling - I think I can fall in love w anyone named Denise.
the one thing .. those song writer's were rip off big time as will those artist's ..... today.. they not so stupid in the music industry.....they rank in the big $$$$
Being a "one-hit wonder" did not have that kind of opprobrium in the era immediately post war. You can tell from the way they were given an almost random name to go with the record. If you had a hit record, fine, if not, you would be Pete and the Pistols (or whatever) next week. Acts traditionally derived staying power from being associated with a venue; that you could get the same (or even much more) from something as "trivial" as record sales was still regarded as phenomenal. Of course from the late 60s onwards this would become the standard business model, until the internet threw everything into disarray once again.
This is one of the best songs that came out of the 60's!!
Great story! I've loved the song "Denise" since I was 13 years old (now 26), and I just discovered Blondie's "Denis" a few weeks ago.
Denise is a very special song to me. I'm especially fond of early 60's music. I like the Blondie cover, I wish the seasons did one, perfect for them
Agree regarding the 4 Seasons. That song intentionally sounds like them.
Could listen to those guys talking all day such great accents

Song's a masterpiece.
Such a good song!
I've been binge watching these for days and I just love this one so freaking much!
That's good to hear, spread the word!

I put another comment, cos i appreciate good music, great song, great story, great cover, who cares if those guys were one hit wonders
Denise gives her approval!
No Dom (Randy) no Rainbows. Zero is Zero. Dom was a wonderful SINGER and Person .R.I.P Dom➕🌷
Amen! Dom was a friend of mine … and Mike Zero SCREWED him back in the day. And the fat dude wasn’t even in the original group.

Strange fortune to have one of the last doo-wop hits before the British Invasion...

Vinnie, I remember meeting you when we both worked at IBM. Your still a sweetie!
Vinnie passed away a few years back
@@marycopper1407 Oh that's sad. Looked so happy talking about those days, and breaking into the singing right on the doorstep.

Great song guys. Thanks
Very cool story. Honestly clicked on the video because they looked like Kramer and George. 😂
This is Mike Zero, not Randy (Dominic). He is an original member but not the lead singer.
Right. And the other guy - Vinnie Carella (RIP) was not an original member, although he later joined "Mike Zero's Randy and the Rainbows".
Awesome
So did the 4 Seasons take this sound from these guys...always sounded like the 4 Seasons to me!
The four seasons preceded Randy and the rainbows by a year.
