I always watch this sort of thing and think it's the closest thing to rallying on two wheels. Do you fully memorise the full course with the runs you get before or are there certain bits you are dealing with on the fly each time?
It really is. I did my best to memorize the layout, but it’s hard to remember every line you have to take and rocks/roots/stumps to dodge. With so many people on the course it changes A LOT every single run (as I experienced in my finals run 😂)

First video that I watched was with your new bike and with the way you were riding i thought you could do some racing, Then I saw this vid. Went to a skate spot and there was a flea market there with tons of people. So I got a stunt scooter for $10 to cruise around on instead of walking everywhere, which is tons of fun. Found another spot, but no one on bmx, which was a little disappointing, but hey.

The fact that you were bombing lines and getting swaggy on a trail bike in a track designed for bikes with at least like 30mm more travel is insane. This event should be a yearly thing you do and every year you come in with 10mm more travel each time 😂😂😂.
Respect bro! Realistically you can't be competitive in DH on a 130mm travel bike, even with the perfect run the rocks will be slowing you down a bit more than someone on a 200mm travel bike. Its a decent bike for dual slalom and whip-offs though (or 'speed and style' for that matter). Have you ever tried entering any Crankworx comps? That crash could have been a *lot* worse, did you see Dean Lucas' similar crash the other day in Snowshoe?
Thank you :) I haven't been to any of the Crankworx stuff but I might actually practice slalom a bit more and try one of those races. Luck was definitely on my side for that one. Could definitely have been a lot worse. And yeah, Dean's crash was bruuutal. Thankful he's going to be ok.
Hindsight. I have it now, but I pretty much operate the same way. I take no advice and try things my way, its experimentation. I started mountain biking with a hard tail and thought it was fine...until I rode a downhill park. Then I rented a full squish and it felt like I suddenly had learned magic. That was great until I moved to Colorado and rode a SERIOUS downhill park so I bought a true downhill bike, and that felt like I was given the powers of a god. Please try again, this was very entertaining! But try it with 200mm of coil under you, there's nothing quite like it.
Next time I’ll definitely try more travel. I knew this would be a challenge but was pretty surprised how much the course deteriorated. It got wayyy sketchier than expected.
Going that hard on a 130 bike is actually insane. You must have been holding on for dear life. If you had a full-blown DH/Enduro bike, you would actually place pretty well.
Once the course started to break down I was definitely holding on for dear life, hahaha. After qualifying it was way too rough. Definitely want to try again with a bit more suspension :)

I wish I was able to record more of the actual pros runs. They make it look effortless. The extra suspension of the downhill bike helps but their line choice and technique makes it look like they're floating

Dude you'd love the redbull rampage trails in southern Utah. I live about 45 mins from them and I always dirtbike around over there. But they leave all the trails and jumps still setup you'd just have to first find, then prep the line a bit haha you gotta just make a trip out to my house brotha man. I got dirtbike ramps in the backyard, trails for days in the hills, a few skateparks to shred, hell id even build another halfpipe in my yard again for us 🤘😂 Itd be great content for ya and shit man I'd just have a blast havin a legend to ride with🤘 if you make the trip soon too it'll still be warm enough to hit the lake for all the lake shenanigans🤘 Youre more than welcome here anytime buddy, that would be so sick!
