    Antoine Dupont is probably going to be crowned the greatest rugby player of all time if he can continue to perform at the level he has been since the start of his career. Starting in Castres, Dupont moved to Toulouse and is now the French National Captain. From a young age it was evident he was special. His ability to change a game is frightening - the strength of a prop, the athleticism of a backrow, the skills of an outhalf and the speed of a winger, he has it all. Following France’s defeat in the RWC 2023, Dupont debuted for the National 7s side and dominated.
    Is Antoine Dupont the GOAT of rugby? Many would argue, yes!

      With many years behind me in rugby and other sports events (cycling, MTBing, outdoor raids, handball, etc.), I have quite a nice viewing angle and had the chance to work with hundreds of athletes and dozens of Champions.
      Antoine is the most humble guy you may ever come across in your life. It takes French as native language to get all the subtleties but, believe me, he never gets things to himself.
      When elected World's best, he was invited in all French TV programs and every media (even fashion and food magazines !) was bragging about him and/or published an article. Everyone in France knows him, and it takes a time-travel back to Serge Blanco to have such an occurrence (starting around 1985). Still, he's all about working for his teams and getting better. He wants to deserve his nickmane : "Ministry of interior".
      He considers himself a newcomer and beginner at 7, but when you watch how he played with the national team in the last weeks... WOW, what a rookie ! Then, back with Stade toulousain XV like he never left... amazing.

      - with Stade Toulousain team : 3 times Top14 Champion + 1 time Champions Cup winner
      - with French XV national team : 6 Nations winner in 2022 & Grand slam ( + 3 times 2nd place)
      - with French 7 national team : 1 tournament win ( + 1 tournament 2nd place), with only 2 events played
      - 6 Nations : best player 2020 + 2022 + 2023
      - EPCR : best player 2021
      - World rugby : best player 2021

    Antoine Dupont is, without doubt, the most richly talented player ever to grace an international rugby union pitch.
    His gifts are beyond compare. He is in an entirely different league, for sure.
    But he is a human being and the God-like reference is misplaced and mis-judged. Are Usain Bolt and Roger Federer god-like? No, they are mere mortals like the rest of us, but supremely gifted. As it happens, the French have a word for it too! 'Nonpareil'.

    I find it intriguing as an American Football fan that someone that small can be one of the best players in the sport 🤔We have wide receivers that can survive at that size but it's a position where you don't experience as much contact, this guy is getting hit on every play. I assume he has had some injury issues?

    • @puccaland
      @puccaland 25 днів тому +1

      During the world cup he for his face broken.

    • @gillesmatheronpro
      @gillesmatheronpro 25 днів тому +3

      He had a major vertebra problem about 5 years ago, but recovered after 2/3 of a season being off. And he came back way stronger. The upper-jaw broken bone during RWC France 2023 tournament was his second injury.
      A rugby player is WAY more rich in skills than any american football player. I used to follow NFL seasons for several years and am a former rugby player (up to University national vice-champion, then commentator and event organiser), so I have a rather broad view upon both sports.
      Rugby is regarded a brutal game, which used to be true until the late 1990s. Not anymore. If you are 1% less fit than your opponent, you are done and dusted. They are fit, probably the fittest of all current athletes, all sports considered. Because they have to run fast (even the front-rows "big ones"), they have to pass the ball backwards which requires special skills (that is the main restricting rule in the sport of "Rugby football", its real and official name), they have to release the opponent and get away from the "ruck" after each tackle, they have to stand on their feet and bend down with their torso when they want to contest the ball in the "ruck", they have to constantly stay behing the virtual line drawn by the ball itself (and the ball carrier most of the time), they have to be multi-task (push, jump, pass, run, protect, run forward and backward in a snap to cope with the previous rule), they have to be close to having a 360° angle of view because (well... you have seen the speed of Antoine Dupont, who is not the fastest runner, so you understand why), they have to be able to kick the ball while running they pick it back, they handle a biger and heavier ball then the american football one (a reminiscence of its roots in "Football association", what you call "soccer"). etc. etc.
      Being a rugby player requires being a swiss-knife of sports.
      Their protections are... themselves. This is also why they must be fit. The positive side of it (also thanks to new rules) : a smaller number of injuries than most would think of. I never wrote there are none, only less than an ignorant would guess. The protections worn by american football players allow for attitudes and gestures and actions actually lethal without them. Remember what happend before NFL decided new regulations about helmets and their fastening straps... how many spine injuries, how many neck injuries, how many brain damages ?
      In rugby you have no hard-shell protections, so players up to know where can go. There are incidents, but rules are stricts and red cards are awarded about one every three games in average (2 x 15 players total on field at any given time). A red card means your game is over + you won't play the next + a discipline comission may give extra weeks or months of ban. With such rules, 1980s brutal rugby is long gone even though some bad behaviours can be seen at times.

      @puccaland 25 днів тому +1

      @@gillesmatheronpro The fittest athletes are the gymnasts. They have to train every fiber of their body like a machine to be able to do the most basic things in gymnastic. Rugby players come in all shapes and sizes. Some are very fit like Dupont, others not so much like the props for instance who often need a drastic fitness work out to play at a certain level.

      @@gillesmatheronpro Appreciate your passion for the sport, and the great knowledge shared. I think you captured the biggest difference in the Swiss army knife comment where one player has to run, has to kick and much more where our sport is more about different roles requiring different skills and a "Different Job" I guess the richness in skill gap comment you mentioned is in the eye of the beholder, the Quarterback position in American Football requires so much, I played the game in Highschool (never good enough to play in college) And the reads you have to make on the go can become overwhelming quickly. Thank you again, and greetings from Miami!

    • @CoteVolet
      @CoteVolet 21 день тому +2

      He is a pretty speedy player, bullish and difficult to catch. He plays as a 9 or 10 on the field, much more in support, in defense, in attack, when failure appears in central defense. He is great with foot play (right and left kick are equal) . during a match, he plays 15, 14 or 13 or create over number during attacks by sliding quickly in the first line ... what makes him terrific is the physical resistance, his foot and hand skills, explosivity, and the fact that he has always a significant impact ont the whole team as a player (15, 7's rugby, Toulouse) during the match and training : the most skilled player in a team.
