I spent weeks looking for reviews on this Instapot. I was on the fence about it and ended up going with the instapot pro crisp fryer 8qt. I’m very satisfied with it, but I stayed with that what if about the ultimate lid. I just came across your video and I’m glad I did. I no longer regret my decision and I value your honest review. Thank you
I just bought this pot, and it's my first IP. I bought it for the sous vide feature, and am already using it several times a week for that. I use the sous vide feature to make fermented dairy, which is like a yogurt but contains a single strain bacteria that is fermented for a very long time, 36 hr, at very low temps. The bacteria are super sensitive to temperature, so the ability to set the temp is quite important. I learned that the last IP model that had sous vide was wildly inaccurate for temp, so for me that model was a no-go, but this new model is perfect! I couldn't be happier (see book by Dr William Davis, SUPER GUT if you have questions). Anyway, having a perfect fermenting device, as well as all the other IP settings such as pressure cooker, etc in one appliance makes this a win-win for me. I wish Instapot would advertise the sous vide feature better; it is such a nice feature.
Arrgh, I am in the process of yogurt making and the machine will NOT display boil. Only pasteurize. I don't have raw milk. I need boil and it is refusing any order of button pressing. This particular lid design has no advice on line or experienced tutorials. ANY ADVICE? Oh thank you!

Ninja products are good but one thing I like about instant pot more over the ninja is that stainless steel bowl. No non stick coating to worry bout wearing off possibly getting into your food. Maybe that's why it cost more
Totally agree. The major factor that convinced me on this duo crisp w/ultimate lid . The only unit I could find in the pressure cooker world w/o coating. I can live with the other features and I'll find a basket accessory that holds more.
I still prefer Ninja's ceramic coating. This is what happens when you prefer ceramic over stainless (20:06) but all over the pot. This is a nice unit, but its not to par with the Ninja Smartlid XL.
this is why I am replacing my current multicooker. It's of course nice to be making a major upgrade also, so the other can remain as my dedicated rice cooker. I wont worry about stirring the now bubbling coating off into rice. I've never pressure cooked before. sounds interesting.
I am one of those who has the original Insta Pot. It still works good but without the updates. I would like the Ninja because of the ease of use. Thanks for the review.
Very helpful. One of the best, most honest and fully comprehensive reviews of this item. The things you noted, both pros and cons, were really helpful and answered a lot of questions I had in my mind about it. I'm keeping mine because some of the things that didn't tick your boxes were actually positives for me and I really appreciate your easy to follow and great presenting style.
I'm actually really impressed with this model. I love that you don't have to separately plug in and store the air fry lid. I'll also happy to see it has the auto and pulse release. Though, I'm still looking at the pro plus because I like the extensive features catered more to pressure cooking specific users.
I'm not getting on very well with the air frying on mine. Everything is taking 25% longer to cook than air frying recipes suggest. The air circulation seems to be poor, I put an oven temperature probe under the basket and even after 15 mins it's was only reading 130c when set to 200c it seems to scorch the food on top before heating through to the bottom. Are all air fryers like this? I haven't tried any others to compare it to.
TY Doug for sharing your new gadget with us! I love what you made I didn't now you're he same age as me. I was a senior in HS in 1993 because I got held over in 1st grade and it's quite a long story. Math and Science were my worse subjects.
Like your honesty. Thank you for that. I have a two top Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker/Air Fryer I got probably about 3 years ago. I’m happy with it until it dies. Love the thing !
This IP would be great for my daughter who is scared to death of pressure cooking. « It’s going to explode! » she said. This IP has no vent or seal button, this machine tells you « not to open lid » and « ok open the lid ». And I agree with you that the pressure releasing is less scary than other machine. For a first IP it’s ok. I guess. Thank you so much for this honest review. Always a pleasure.
Thanks for the review. This seems nice enough, but small. I like the safety features. I don’t care for the air fry rack. Hopefully they will have an 8 quart in the future.💕
Wonder how temp accurate the air fryer is. The older duo and pro crisp are about 50 degrees below what ever you set them. Yes, the old duo crisp only really heats to 350 and pro crisp 400.

I love your videos!!!! ♥ I finally bought my very 1st ninja foodi w/smartlid for Christmas! All I have owned up until this point was instant pots. I like them, they are a great product but I also had a lot I didn't like about them.
The air fryer program was one huge bummer. I doubt this will be one of your favorite appliances. Your demonstration convinced me I don’t want one. So thank you very much for saving me some extra bucks.
Thanks for your review. I am very disappointed with this particular IP too. I will be returning my pot. I like the pressure release settings. Not worth the price!
Great review. I would love it, but I dunno who would want my Duo Crisp! Hard to sell these large items on Ebay, etc. without being new in the original box.
I've had my eye on this and was wondering how it compared to the new Ninja model. After watching your review, I tend to agree with you on all points and that makes me sad because I wanted this to blow the Ninja out of the water. I love IP but I wish they would do better with the metal rack. It's truly annoying to have half of your food stuck on the rack when removing it. The feature of having only 1 lid was the initial draw for me. But you're absolutely right about IP not being a true 1 lid feature. I just wish the Ninja was a more aesthetically pleasing machine...I think it's just flat out ugly but I love the Instant Pot's appearance. So now I'm rethinking it all. Do I really need this from either brand? Probably not....I'll just stick with my original Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker and the Instant Pots that I already have.
I have the old Instapot and not a huge fan with the pressure leaks, I have a Breville air fry convection oven but doesn't get food crispy, So looking for a good air fryer for family size use. Which do you think would be best, just buying an instapot lid for air frying or a separate machine and if so which one. I am thinking of a duo basket.
My IP Duo Crisp was super cheap (under $80 Canadian), it has an actual air frying basket and is compatible with all Instant Pot accessories. This thing seems like an attempt to break compatibility while not bringing much to the table. Cleaning that built-in vent must be so hard… Much harder than putting the lid in the dishwasher. So… Meh
I was wondering about that piece of tape on the underside of the protective inner lid. It protects the heating elements. Also did you remove the protective film on the screen? That’s gonna look bad after awhile. Nice video but the safety on the lid release is a good thing. I just set up mine today. I gave a good friend my Ultra 6. I too, miss more accessories, I already bought a trivet.

Great overview! I love my Instant Pot Pro Crisp, but this would be a big pass for me. It's too small and I agree, that rack doesn't seem very good for air frying (though it may be okay for keeping things up when you pressure cook). I'd rather get the Cosori Dual Blaze for pure air frying and use my Pro Crisp for when I want to pressure cook and then air fry. I actually like that the lids come off on the Pro Crisp, but I can understand that other people don't have the space for the second lid. Re the instant release vs natural release - I rarely use the instant release, probably because I often make soups and meats that do better with a natural release so having it default to natural release works for me. I know you are returning it, but I wonder if it remembers the last time you cooked you used instant release, since I find it often remembers the last settings you used.
