I was 12 years old, listening to this every day on a tape for 1 year, no other tape then this. Extremely good. These are the numbers inloved the most... spanish castle 😎
If I'm honest, John Crocker was the reason why I went to see this band in the 1970's everytime they visited the Camberley area where I lived at the time, Superb band, but John was the stand out exceptional player. For me personally, the 1970's was their best ever decade.
Further research suggests that it is NOT recorded at the Derby Assembly Rooms. The album of that concert only has one of the three tracks featured on this video. Can anybody shed light as to the where this performance took place?
Hi Alan, this is the recording of June 23, 1982 at the Derby Assembly Rooms. Titles are Spanish Castles, Good Queen Bess, Georgia on my mind. You are correct, on the Timeless CD "Concert for the BBC" CDTTD 509/510 Good Queen Bess is missing. However the full concert ist on BBC Laser Disc BBCV3018L. But I'm not sure if anybody has the Laserdisc and has still a possibility to play it... ;-). Best regards Andreas, archivist/webmaster Big Chris Barber Band
Hi Alan - I asked the great man himself when he guested with a band I was with at the time. I was particularly interested to try and get hold of a recording of those two consecutive BBC2 concerts that his band performed at. He said yes, those concerts WERE recorded and Chris put them onto one DVD which is called 'CHRIS BARBER'S JAZZBAND - Walking To New Orleans'. The following tracks on the DVD are as follows: 1. Introduction 2. Burbon Street Parade 3. Mary Had A Little Lamb 4. Perdido Street Blues 5. Spanish Castles 6. Good Queen Bess 7. Georgia On My Mind 8. South Rampart Street Parade 9. Take Me Back To New Orleans 10. Whistling Rufus 11. Rose Room 12. Ride On. 13. Basin Street Blues 14. Goodbye Goodbye Bonus Tracks 15. I've Got To Love Somebody 16. Swanee River 17. Si Tu Vois Mere 18. Nights In New Orleans I think I bought the DVD off Amazon about 10 years ago now. Watching the DVD I recognised certain sections and remembered seeing them exactly as I saw them on those two BBC 2 concerts. There's a number on the box which is 8638. The DVD was made in Germany in 2005 it looks like on reading the cover, which I have right in front of me as I type this. Hope this helps enthusiasts who are keen to get hold of a video recording of those particular concerts.
When i was working at my practice as a dentiste, i used to put Chris as relaxing music, and my patients loved it

I was there at ten years old, sat right in middle at the front. Still love them.
That sorts that mystery-Thank You
Wonderful performance
John Crocker, by far the best men Chris ever had!

Georgia on my mind. Da gibt der Gitarrist, dessen Namen ich leider nicht kenne, der Gitarre eine Seele.
His name was Roger Hill. He played with Chris Barber 1979 to 1986. Regrettably he died in 2011 aged 66
Thank you for this Information, Johannes.
That version of Georgia on my Mind was one of the nicest songs I've heard. Really super.
