I wish the camera work wasn't so terrible. It would have been nice to actually see what's going on without being zoomed in and out of focus the whole video.
The student in White was top of the class it seemed to me. Any more than that, and you will have to apply to the teacher. I also gained that from first blush, take that for what it’s worth.
I have read that kodachi swords were also available for civilian use so i can imagine that shinobi would use these kodachi swords for night time infiltration missions since these swords were widely available in that time period in Japan
In this case, the kodachi is different from a wakizashi, which is also a short sword, in that the kodachi has a two-handed handle just like the katana, but with a shorter blade, but it looks slightly longer in blade length than a wakizashi.
What really is the difference between seppuku and harakiri ? As far as I know one is to remain the honor of Samurai's house which was done in a white kimono with shoulders exposed
@@seanmclaughlin1994 I think it's mainly as an accessory only samurai carry 2 sword back in the days and most of the kodachi is given by a daimyo to their retainer as a symbol off some sort. El hermoso arte de la espada. Otra de las maravillas del Japón!

Pretty sure kodachi literally just means sword
@@seemslegit6203 Short Sword

In México kenjutsu and kendo are practiced in some universities. UNAM. Thanks for keeping these traditions.
Thanks for the video.
.. Much respect to the Japanese sword the different techniques in wielding it.

So...from @4:00-4:05, why does the guy in the foreground have completely different hand and weapon positioning than everyone else?
probably a different style like it may be seen in karate
Perhaps, but if I were teaching Shotokan why would I have someone demonstrating Shito-ryu in the foreground of my promotional video?
Really good
Does anyone know of a good source to purchase a unsharpened (iaito) kodachi for training purposes?
kult of athena
Tozando, just order one of their Iaito in the smaller lenghth range.

Seppuku=harakiri. In Japanese, seppuku=切腹、harakiri=腹切り. But I think harakiri is not formal name.

Harakiri is just the name that the west used for it

Why my kodachi handle short..?? Urmm
You probably have a wakizashi .
Wakizashi and Kodachi is the same thing. Different name for different use
Because you have the correct length.
For some reason these guys use katana tsuka on Kodachi/wakizashi

I didn't know people practiced with real swords in kendo all I remember was the bamboo staff things.
This is not kendo, this is kenjutsu.
Mis mas grande respeto.
Is a kodachi built to the golden ratio?
i would rather train in second row there
Marvin Ac good point!!! 😂

If you want a martial arts thatbworks up until you hit the airport
Samurai carries two swords because they both break. The shorter one is for yourself.
No its because if their katana breaks, the wakizashi is used as a backup weapon

Tsuka seems long on the kodachi.

The camera man sucks at his job
All of anime like fantasy holding katana, we are really disrespecting their Japanese culture.
Their anime should have people popularizing the m4a1 instead.
忘れてどないする。
Worst cameraman ever...
seriously how hands chopping for using a 20 inch blade sword, waste of energy
