Well, to be fair, when you set your Star Wars show on Tatooine, you only have so much to work with and very little room to expand. Your only options are to bring in familiar stuff, or come up with new stuff that inevitably clashes horribly with the setting. I actually quite like the idea of the Mods. Say what you will about The Last Jedi but at least it tried to move the franchise forward, not back. But no, fans had to throw a hissy fit and we got Rise of Skywalker instead of an actually compelling sequel!
The problem with Last Jedi was that it destroyed the build up force awakens set up, not whatever most of the fans said. So RoSW tried to fix it but crumbled and both movies did legacy characters and new characters dirty.
Did it though? I mean yeah it talks about wanting to end the Jedi and Sith and what not, but how does the film end? With a Sith lord in control of the whole galaxy hunting down a group of rebels lead by a Jedi. Plus, despite the fact that it takes the most risks out of all the ST it still steals and copies like all the other films. And in the end thanks to the fact Snoke is dead and every other plotline from TFA was wrapped up it forced TROS to bring back Palpatine with no foreshadowing
You, know, it probably would've helped to just appoint one director for all three movies, a director that had a clear vision on what they wanted to do with the new trilogy, or even just have Lucas onboard as an assistant writer. Like Kai said, it just destroyed the buildup TFA had, so then RoS had to scramble to clean up the mess TLJ made as well as trying to tell its own story.
I don’t really like TLJ but u have to admit that JJ fucked up Star Wars with the rise of skywalker way harder than Rian did with TLJ. Bringing back palatine ruins every characters arc in the whole series especially Luke, Anakin, Obiwan, Maul, and Yoda. Kinda like the main guys you don’t wanna fuck up!!
And guess what? If they DIDN'T bring all this stuff back people would be complaining anyway since people on the internet can't make up there fucking minds weather they want to be pandered to or not. 🙄
Notice the absence of Mandalorian S1, S2, and Bad Batch in that video. (Andor but that one came out later so ) Star wars has shown they can make good shows. Really really good ones in fact. With good fanservice. And interesting stories. But they also make some shitty ones. They keep repeating the same mistakes with the shitty ones. It is as if they don't learn from the stuff that does work.
