Yes, it was indeed Impressive. I remember having this game for Christmas in 1996, I ran to my Neo Geo CD and put it in. And it was one of the most amazing games I have seen as a kid... it was truly an amazing franchise. Glad Terry made it into Smash. :)
I do, EGM gave it Game of the Year. Sadly arcades in my area didn't have any KoF games in the Neo Geo cabs they had, or any that I ran into locally. Thankfully KoF 94 Rebout uses the AST tracks from this version, and you can even use the new sprites for the game on the old backgrounds, with original or arranged music tracks. Truly a thing of beauty as I don't bother with the remade stages on Rebout.
yes it was very impressive. When i was small, my first kof game was 96 and when i was 10 when 94 released i really wanted it but my mom sayed no i was really sad but this gives alot of memory i thank you again for this gameplay
One thing that stands out to me is the backgrounds. Particularly the Akira inspired Japan stage. They have so much personality and detail which is a testament to SNK’s art team in that era. It feels like that as fighting games evolved in regards to gameplay, they regressed in terms of the little details such as backgrounds and the special intros before each match that made the fight more special. Also tier wise, Art Of Fighting team>everybody.
I just love that the very first game of this series didn't have god-like beings as a final boss. Rugal is just a guy who gets serious in the second round, and whoops, there go your quarters! Would like to see some more SNK fighting games if you're planning to.
Rugal in '94 is one of the cheapest, most frustrating bosses in retro game you would ever fight. It looked easy here but to anyone who has played this game will know just how difficult he is. Also, it's funny and a bit weird to hear Kyo without his classic lines lol
Still the classic, also before Marvels Avenger Crossovers, Neo Geo universe already have their Crossovers. Personally I always go for Team Art of Fighting as I always liked the Art of Fighting standalone trilogy
At least there is no load times during each round fight unlike kof 95 Saturn. I can hold my thoughts on behalf the other load times. This is acceptable.
I hear you. That's how a lot of the later NGCD ports got when the big games started coming out. Trying to play Last Blade on a system with a single-speed CD drive was a completely miserable experience.
Not only on Saturn. Kof fron 95 onwards had loading for single characters on ngcd too. It was painful. And loadings were shorter on Saturn compared to ngcd, especially on 95 since sat had the special kof95 romcart that held many assets in memory.
@@signorpaldoni Saturn got it right for 95 and should use the same method for 96 and 97. The durability for the ram cart is questionable though. If you have the regular import cart and use the swap out method for the 95 ram cart then overtime its going to ruin the pins overtime and will not work ever again. Just an experience as a Saturn owner.
Yeah that's impressive for 96 "though technically 94" but I'd expect nothing less from the Neo Geo. A system that went for and still goes for the price of multiple Sega Genesises.
The Japanese version on CD came out soon after the cart release in 94. The only reason why this version came out in 96 is because that's when the NGCD system finally launched in the US.

@JohnnyCasey I am a newcomer to SNK, I don't call Terry Bogard is from The King of Fighters since I knew he was introduced in Fatal Fury because I watched Mr. Sakurai Presents Terry Bogard explained about Terry Bogard. The very beginning of SNK's biggest franchise. Remember how impressive this was when it first came out?

Always wanted to play this as a kid, dope upload!

KoF is one of those games where people can compliment on how well you played. It is hard to explain.
always wanted a Neo Geo as a kid, EGM had those ad pages in the back with shady sounding companies selling it for hella money.
