  • the video talks in detail about the cotton wool spots. Cotton wool spots are yellow white /grey whitish lesions of the retina resulting due to ischemia. Ischemia causes hypoxia and hypoxia leads to stoppage of the axoplasmic flow of the neurons in the nerve fiber layer. this leads to the accumulation of the intraorganelles in the swollen neurons. this results in formation of Cytoid bodies that are seen in light microcopy of the cotton wool spots .
There are numerous causes of the cotton wool spots. the most common are the diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, vein occlusion HIV, purtscher retinopathy and ocular ischmic syndrome.
The video is a part of the series onn the hypopigmented lesionms of the retina, made by Dr Amrit Sahil Panjwani ( MBBS, MS Ophthalmology )

Well done Ma'am. So am I to understand dat d cotton wool spot will also resolve but will take a longer time?
2ndly, cotton wool spot takes 3months to resolve on dia own without treating d underlying cause, except in traumatic epiretinal membrane alterations? Please clear dis confusion . Thank u.
