Round solders mean your connection was not hot enough, the second board was better before you redid them

That's bullshit. Round joints are a very common thing when you solder and even more if you add more rosin (you should of course remove the excess afterwards with alcohol or similar) or solder paste. And you also have to see that the solder is nicely bounded to whatever you are soldering. If your joints have sharp points that aren't caused by excess wire or the solder is not attaching to things properly, you are doing something wrong. Though I should add, some of the joints shown in the video aren't as good as the others - some of them do have sharp parts, which is not great, but hey, it'll do:)

They should be hot enough, soldering iron was at 325, and I heated the pads up a ton to fix up the solder. Round solder points happen all the time with rosin, especially when you have excess solder. I didn’t remove any of the old solder when I added my own, so that plus the rosin made them fairly large and rounded. But that works perfectly fine and doesn’t cause any issues whatsoever

@@xxexplosivexxxxexplosivexx8512Yeah I'm fairly confident that sharp solder jobs not caused by the leads, don't qualify for even class 1. Although round balls technically are okay (IF ALL ELSE IS OKAY), they are not great as they make it hard to inspect for cracks and adhesion to the island. And as long as they don't go beyond the edge of the island, it is also fine. When they go outside the boundaries of the island, it is a bad job.

Very good info! What are the classes you refer to? I pretty much taught myself as I went so any knowledge is incredibly helpful!

Yeah, those solder beads are cold. You should probably try again. The solder should form a cone, not a ball. Get some flux and make sure you heat the pad

The solder I use has flux inside and spreads every time I solder, and I heated the pads like crazy. They’re balls because there’s a lot of solder, I didn’t remove any of the old stuff from when the previous person worked on it.
What’s interesting though is I’ve never had solder end up in a cone shape, the flux makes it so the solder never does that unless my iron isn’t hot enough. Maybe you’re thinking of when you solder something pointy? These are flat circle bases I’m soldering to, so there’s nothing sticking up

My bad, I was under the impression there were component lega hiding under all that solder. And yes, you will always be better off removing the old solder.
But if you ever get that balling up going on when you're soldering clean pads you either have way too much solder (a little goes a long way), not enough heat on the pads or not enough flux.

Did you miss that before there were pads connecting to things they shouldn’t have? If I had left them as they were, things would have fried
