The funny thing is that Lara from "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" is a mass murderer. In no Tomb Raider game are so many people killed as in the reboot games, sometimes in a really brutal way. Nevertheless, she is now supposed to be a kind of hero that the whole family can enjoy.
This is one of the most ridiculous things in reboot. She cries in cutscenes, and then immediately kills 30 people in gameplay in a particularly brutal way. Then the next cutscene comes along and she cries again.

When I first think of Lara Croft I think of the reboot games but that's because they are the only ones I've played and I love them so I have a different perception. But I can understand people that played the older games feels more nostalgic to classic Lara Croft. I'm not a fan of how the anime styled series look or seems to be though.

I've also just got to the part about supposedly making Lara more "accessible." Lara always was, though. I am looking forward to October 10, 2024......so I can add this title to my block list on Netflix. When I heard about this series, I was initially excited, then that interest faded as soon as I realised it was based on a series of games I have never played. I miss the original Natla, I always wanted a movie or series based on Tomb Raider I. I started with Tomb Raider I and appreciated most of the games up to TR6/AOD, then slowly lost interest in what came after. Whatever we have now isn't Lara and Tomb Raider I grew up with. that will only get worse with each new release in the retgon series. Does it ever occur to anyone that the artefacts Lara keeps in the original games are devices that bring about mass destruction? Therefore those artefacts should be kept secured to avoid nefarious individuals selling them to the highest bidder or using them for global domination&destruction. Since we will probably never get another good new Tomb Raider game, I am hoping that we will at least get remasters of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Chronicles…even though I have physical copies of both of those games.
They did this to Carmen Sandiego. Instead of adapting both femme fatales as we know them, Netflix changed their morality to always catch and release artifacts to the good guys. This She-ro conversion project is mind numbing.
I knew I wasn't the only one who disliked Netflix's Carmen San Diego! I haven't watched the show, but only because I have no desire to. I played the game as a kid, and Carmen was an elusive criminal. The game was mainly an educational one too. I imagine a better show would be to focus on the detective trying to catch Carmen, and only ever show us her silhouette w/ the red coat and hat. I like the idea of having a partner for cooperative play. Even in the very first mission of the first game, she had a guide. They could easily have a local around for missions. The cooperative play doesn't need to be symmetrical, and they don't need to have conversations or quips, and it can be completely optional (not even in cutscenes or dialogue) if it's done right. They can change the story and character. Just give me an evolution of that classic gameplay. TR wasn't about the story, Lara's personality, or even Lara's body (that order is least- to most-talked-about.) TR was about the gameplay: gymnastics, the environments, the enemies, the puzzles, the combat, etc. That's what people talked about in school. That's what kept people playing and buying sequels.

At least Classic Lara can live on through Aspyr and judging by how much of a positive reception the first remastered collection got I bet you that Embracer is gonna get them working on a 4-6 remastered soon especially since they called it a financial success. As for Crystal Dynamics themselves most gamers hate the and even an entire company hates them with The Initiative who is working on the new Perfect Dark with them said that a good amount of people left the company due to how controlling they are. All in all CD is on thin ice it seems and hopefully after the next game bombs Lara finally gets a good home with a company that respects her. 🤞🤞

It's not a good look. Laura is neutral, steals stuff from tombs, and usually does the right thing when given a moral choice. Lara Croft never needed rebranding, she just needs to fight apes and dogs with her guns and solve tricky puzzles.

"'She will become the Tomb Raider.' Well, it's been 11 years, now. Why isn't she the Tomb Raider yet?" That was my view upon seeing the ROTR gameplay (minus however many years.)
I like the idea of having a partner for cooperative play. Even in the very first mission of the first game, she had a guide. They could easily have a local around for missions. The cooperative play doesn't need to be symmetrical, and they don't need to have conversations or quips, and it can be completely optional (not even in cutscenes or dialogue) if it's done right.
They can change the story and character. Just give me an evolution of that classic gameplay. TR wasn't about the story, Lara's personality, or even Lara's body (that order is least- to most-talked-about.) TR was about the gameplay: gymnastics, the environments, the enemies, the puzzles, the combat, etc. That's what people talked about in school. That's what kept people playing and buying sequels.
It feels as if they are slowly turning Lara Croft into Carmen San Diego.

Fml I’ve just heard the part about people around Lara reasoning with her. More unneeded moral compass from other character. These writers really left their degree thinking they’ve got some skill by writing every character the same and adding elements to established characters that aren’t apart of their character. Mario ain’t got people on the sidelines putting him through the motions. I’d literally rather Lara be a mute than have these writers keep giving her normal people issues.

At least Classic Lara can live on through Aspyr and judging by how much of a positive reception the first remastered collection got I bet you that Embracer is gonna get them working on a 4-6 remastered soon especially since they called it a financial success. As for Crystal Dynamics themselves most gamers hate the and even an entire company hates them with The Initiative who is working on the new Perfect Dark with them said that a good amount of people left the company due to how controlling they are. All in all CD is on thin ice it seems and hopefully after the next game bombs Lara finally gets a good home with a company that respects her. 🤞🤞

I can’t say she was made out to be a hero in LAU though - can’t think of any examples. Underworld she was true to character and ignored how her ambitions could destroy the world - even when she was given the signs

It's not a good look. Laura is neutral, steals stuff from tombs, and usually does the right thing when given a moral choice. Lara Croft never needed rebranding, she just needs to fight apes and dogs with her guns and solve tricky puzzles.
I don't want a "unified" Lara Croft, I don't ever want to see a "Classic" Lara with:
-Pickaxe
-Bow and arrow
-No pistol/Single pistol
-Jade necklace
-A plain pony tail
-Long pants
-short legs
There’s also a failure of these people to read the room when it comes to this stuff and the fact that it’s not just the hardcore fans who don’t want this stuff but also the average audience members who they’re trying to appeal to.

In my opinion, the last good TR game. Combat is a little janky but pretty much everything else is true to Lara Croft. I say it's worth a buy

My earliest memories of tomb raider was actually feeling i could conquer my fears as Lara does by going headfirst into danger, and as long as I had pistols id be alright. there were def scary moments, biggest for me was 40 fathoms, the lost valley, Atlantis & India with the statues coming alive. Oh and The bloody Ireland level with the hanging man! Good Times. I def wouldn't want Lara to be like me but i want to be like Lara. XD

The Castlevania show started strong but after the old writer left and the Alcard pegging scene it went to shit and the next series was trash.
I definitely will admit that I sucked at the original Tomb Raider games, so yes I do LOVE the 2013 game! She was more vulnerable, but she was gorgeous, awesome, and a run and gun like I remember. That said, I don’t want a Tomb Gift Receiving version of her 😝 Is nothing sacred anymore? I wouldn’t be surprised is she’s a lesbian or at least has a DEI friend that sets her on the right track 😩
