I have seen CC 3 times and that sounds like a sick tour! I have seen them tour with bands like 40 Below Summer, ill Nino, Chimaira, Mudvayne, Nonpoint, Type O Negative, The Deadlights, Full Devil Jacket, and Medication.
I'm pissed off at myself for not knowing about this group until now. I was a Techno D.J back then, so I missed out on all of this kind of wonderfulness.

They were. Nu Metal got a lot of shit back then and I hate to be 'that guy' but the LA late 90's scene was an amazing time to be alive and I wasn't even there! Coal Chamber put out a pretty cool album a few years back, Dez probably makes money as DevilDriver so they haven't done anything since.
I saw Coal Chamber in January of 1998 of St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit, it was amazing!!! To top it all off Dez was hanging out on the stairs of St. Andrew's after the show having a smoke. He was donning a beanie and really low-key. My friends and I recognized him and we all got our ticket stubs signed. I still have mine. He was a really cool dude. He sat there and shot the shit with us for a good couple minutes until other people realized who we were talking to. After that, it was kinda game over for the chat. We said "Thanks" and he said "Thanks" and we left. That night I also got System of a Down's demo tape with the bug zapper on the front. I still prefer those versions over the Rick Rubin produced versions. "Know", "War?" and "Peephole". Those versions should have been on their Self-Titled album.
I was at that show too. My buddy's band Universal Stomp opened. I too met Dez and Meggs as well, got my ticket signed and got the System of a Down demo.

I thought Coal Chamber were OK back then - I am and was more into grungy stuff - but watching this on a whim they were actually a much better band than I thought. Like way better than some other bands who had much bigger success.

Just saw them on the mudvayne tour 2023 unfortunately they played mostly songs from dark days their weekest album only 1 song from chamber music needles to say i was a little disappointed although still great to be able to see coal chamber agian
I was going to see them back in 2002 on the Jagermeister tour with Drowning Pool but they apparently got into a huge fight at the gig the night before mine so they canceled their set. Once the crowd found out they almost started to riot but Dave Williams from DP came out and calmed the crowd.
I'm almost positive it was $18. Sevendust opened if I remember correctly. This show was sick AF to be at! All the bands from this era on the come up were so killer to see in the small clubs in and around Detroit.

Nu-metal also popularized several of the mainstays of modern metal. Doom, death and shred metal all existed in the 80s, no one put that shit together until after nu-metal.

Nu-metal took a lot from death and doom metal like downtuned guitars and extreme vocals and popularized it. Modern metal just added shred to the mix. You can't get from 80s metal to modern metal without nu-metal. The evolution would never have occurred.

I still listen now and then for sentimental reasons since as a teen i liked them back during the nu metal era....looking back as a drummer myself i can now see though how sloppy live they where lol. Sometimes live the drummer and guitar barely hold on. Ive heard their drummer makes millions of mistakes live playing lol. I feel like their bass and vocals are great but the drums and guitar needed huge improvements live lol. Had they had a tighter drummer they would have been much better.

And the band was in front of its time, as Nu--Metal wasn't mainstream yet, and there were only a couple of bands playing this type of music, and their clothing style is different from many other bands. This all together makes Coal Chamber an good and interesting band.
