Great review. I always dig your angle on things and it makes us all a little more zen to hear your take. Thank you. I have enjoyed the Mega8 3.0 and it has been a workhorse for 12 itvs on a show that’s taken us from St. Louis to Santa Fe to Austin, Philly to NYC, over the summer, in all kinds of different environments, and it’s been reliable. Feeling like we need a hardcase shell to drop the Intellytech case into, or refit one for the Mega8 - hardcase for sure, if it’s to fly, I think. However, its own, on a van, in/out of locations, it’s fine. I do find that putting the softbox together is quicker when using clips to keep the sections closed and the Velcro from attaching before you want it to so that you can align it without hassle. Good fixture. Will likely get more.
I have the 2.0 for a year and loved it! Glad that they improved that tiny baby pin on the back, finally! Always wished for a bit more output as well specially for these corporate shoot near a windows.. Happy they added 100w! Will definitely get the new one as well
Really good review, I have 2.0 here in UK, when you need it, there is nothing like it - replaced plastic mount with a Kupo and replaced bungies with Think Tank whips - good kit
@@GaffersSalon Oh they are quicker to deploy and more secure. You get less injurys with them, I am sure you know what I mean, with the bungees nothing is set until they are all on and they can come off.
@@robinprobyn1971 yeah I’m prob gonna picked up a 6 as well… only waiting now on the pop up diffuser for the mega 8, interested to see how that will work as an option on mega 8
@@GaffersSalon Yeah Ive ordered those pop ons for the 6, just as a spare and that they will be quicker , sometimes Velcro gets to me ! I have a feeling I'll end up using the pop ons most of the time
Hi, I found your channel by looking for Rosco Opti-sculpt and also watched the video with a 7' umbrella. (As many of us I guess) I like wide source with narrow beam angle as lightweight and power efficient as possible. Would you experiment using Nanlite 60c + fresnel + Rosco Opti-Sculpt assymetrical sheets, bouncing on 7' umbrella? How the dark spot (from fixture in the middle of umbrella) affects shadows? How bright would it be compared to Mega cloth with diffusion and grid? Greetings
Still dont understand why they dont put the head feeder connection at the mounting point ...that goes for the other companies that do the same thing ;)
I've not found this to be an in issue for me... the header usually wraps down the gobo/menace arm what have you... i was more annoyed at first by the side mounting point on the Fc21/22 but i also get why they made that call too.
@@GaffersSalon dont fight the big G, also chews up 2.5 of your cable length. I understand the folds and pressure on a driver when in the case but if you want to improve these are some areas you can do it in ;)
Great review! Thanks for the insights.
awesome video, super helpful!
This was so helpful thankyou!!

What’s the advantage of think tank whips? Never used them…

fantastic choice of note pad.
Solid Gold!
Great video question on the 2.0 version do all the cells come on or do they come on separately depending on what color temperature.
On both versions you have no independent control on the 8 cells… they are all controlled in unison.
Have you found yourself using more than one of these commonly on a shoot?
Depends but yes. Next week I have 2 mega 8 and 2 Godox 600b and 2 original mega all working
