Totally agree with you! I too believe this to be a good thing in the big picture. And on the topic of what videos you will make, I came here for Dm help in different adventures, but stayed after having fun with yall on the DC. If I would have to make a request, I would love to see more DM guides for other systems adventures (like CoC or DCC) and ofc more of your meme videos! Probably one of the best laughs I had was on your April 1st video!

While it was the D&D advice and reviews that introduced me to your videos, your way of looking at the game and your style of DMing is what made me subscribe. Honestly, if you stay true to what you feel about gaming, I’ll continue to watch your videos. As I’ve expanded my gaming knowledge into other TTRPG systems, it has grown my ability for running these games. I look forward to see how you grow this community.

Once upon a time in the long long ago times some call the '80s. The idea of just playing D&D was odd. There were other systems that we played. Twilight 2000, westends Star Wars and eventually Werewolf and all that in the '90s.
So in a way this is a return to the status quo. I will continue to play D&D as my main game. But now my younger players are asking about other systems that will tell different stories better. And I think this is a good thing. This is rpg renaissance

And frankly, the modern OSR, if that's what you're thinking of, is art-house as hell. With games like Troika and Into the Odd and a million things on itch that are vaguely compatible with anything OSR-ish. There was actually an adventure competition recently called No Artpunk Allowed or something which was specifically some people pushing back against the crazy, wacky stuff the OSR generally puts out now. The problem is that you need to go digging for it all.

I was never a fan of 5E but everybody plays it so I went along with the crowd. I personally think Pathfinder 2E is a much better version but it lacks all the weirdo races people seem to like to play. So with exotic races for 5E, I think that is what it makes it such a popular game.

    • @NoFunAllowed

Haha exactly my point, it sucks wanting to play something that other people aren't willing to play

    • @kelly4187
      @kelly4187 Рік тому +2

Archives of Nethys has a stupid amount of weird ancestries. And there's nothing to stop dms and players working together the homebrew something.
One of the problems with 5e to me is the woke push away from specific negatives of a certain race in case it offends someone in the "modern audience", leading to lots wanting to play weird races just to be cooky and weird, in a desperate attempt to be "unique". It was much better in the early days of 5e when a Dm would say "sure you can be a goblin, but don't expect to not have a town guard try to kill you on sight" as then it was internally consistent.
This is why pathfinder is better. It is internally consistent. It doesn't shy away from the reality that races in this fantasy world don't have to reflect anything about a "modern" audience. Weird races will have a weird experience as they are rare. That is the point.
So I view this lack of the weirdest races as one of its boons. As well as the rules just flat out being better.

@@colbyboucher6391 ye if you take a step back and look at what people played.
They never actually played 5e since it isnt simply playable without homebrew.
Third edition was playable but it was so easy to modify why not do it? Of course back then they sorta have to care a bit about quality.
Now at 5e there isn't an ounce left.

I think there's definitely going to be a sea change in the TTRPG community regardless of what WotC does (or fails to do as the case may be). 4e wasn’t a debacle. Adventurers League was super popular and it got a lot of people playing for the first time. Finding games for 3/3.5e were always hard. It wasn’t perfect and it tried to be world of Warcraft with its ability system which was great but did get complicated with indecisive players but it was a gateway that got a lot of people into D&D, nothing like the explosion during 5e but it helped pave the way for 5es popularity. 4e is when it started to become cool to play D&D and where live play events started to push the hobby further making way for TAZ or critical role during 5e (I know the latter started on pathfinder but Penny Arcade and Harmontown made a space for them to succeed) people love shitting over 4e to get “cred” but it was a step up from 3/3.5 in some aspects. Casters were finally fun with cantrips and powers that reset between encounters rather than long rests compared to the do a few spells and need to long rest because you can only use a dagger until you long rest and will mostly miss. I had a lot of fun with it and managed to introduce way more people to D&D than I ever did with 3/3.5.

I only started playing three years ago, and I now DM twice a week on two campaigns. I pretty much only run modules, as it just works better for my life/schedule. I love the walkthroughs that you've made. I honestly can't imagine running a campaign without having that kind of content available. That's sort of one of the reasons I'm so into DnD, I have all those resources. If you and other folks started to branch out, I'm guessing eventually I would too. But I am bummed at what's been happening with WofC over the last week, as I'm pretty embedded in this system and have a lot of momentum going. But in both my groups this week, like 1/4th of the session time was on just discussing the OGL kerfuffle. Every player is aware and, for the most part, are strongly on the side of the content creators. Just goes to show that the community is well-informed and passionate.

And why not go rules agnostic and wtrite in a way that any system can use it so you get 100% of the comunity not 50% like you have been doing... I do not care about WoTC's trademark settings, monsters or narratives though. I also do not like the company or its practices.
I personally advocate for there being a large market of games that fit into different niches and address the needs of those niches well. It's also fine to have a more broad and modular game like D&D too, but it shouldn't really be servicing such a large portion of the market.
