If you guys haven't watched Megamind before, it's a bit of an overlooked gem that came out same year as despicable me, and is arguably a better take on the villain isn't really the baddie thing. Certainly didn't have the merchandising potential of minions though
Ha! Awesome! I’m a single dad of a 5, 14 & 16 year old daughters and man the times passing way too fast, scares me. They are my everything and my 2 oldest are at those ages where social life & other things are becoming more important to them, the days of them just wanting to go spend time with dad are becoming fewer and fewer , thank goodness my baby is still really young but man I wish I could slow time down. I saw this in theaters with my 2 oldest girls when they were 7 and 8 years old so it’s definitely a very special movie to me , nothing like seeing your daughters laughing hysterically at a hilarious movie. I hope I can still make mine laugh at the age of yours, must be a good dad. 👍👍
My sister started having kids in '07. This was the first movie/gift I bought for them and a week later my sister called me up saying she was ready to destroy the DVD because they were watching it almost nonstop on repeat.
This was 2010, one year after Cameron's Avatar was released, and for a few years after its release almost every family/adventure/fantasy/sci-fi movie had to have at least one sequence shot specifically for 3D. To this day I remember seeing the Hobbit in 2D and some scenes were so obviously shot for 3D they just looked cringe in 2D. It felt like I was at a crappy amusement park, rather than watching an adaptation of Tolkien's work. At least with Despicable Me they weren't trying to hide their intentions ;)
Agnes voice actor was the 5 year old, adorable daughter if the director. One of the books in the girls bedroom was the World Encyclopedia of Explosives. The lion was eating the dog, the dog eating the cat, the cat eating the mouse and the mouse eating cheese.
Fun fact: If someone elects to hold their breath indefinitely, the worst case scenario is that they would pass out/lose consciousness, and then begin breathing normally. So if some kid does it at you, in protest, let'em go to town.
The animation is amazing, isn't it? The stitching on Gru's space suit, the old-age spots on the faces of both Dr Nefario and the newscaster, and Edith's knit hat actually looks like it was knitted. Sidenote, you may have missed it in the end credits, but Gru's mother was voiced by Mary Poppins herself: Julie Andrews.
If I had a shrink ray, I’d shrink Disney world to make the worlds coolest, and most detailed miniature railroad setup, and then I would charge people to be shrunk down to go to the parks
14:08 Yes, there was a time when people thought you could cause yourself brain damage by holding your breath, and some kids picked up on that to essentially hold themselves hostage. 14:30 According to the studio, the minions were originally intended to be genetically engineered corn kernels. They proved so popular, though, that they retconned that into something different for subsequent movies. 18:22 Yes you are! 30:47 They're trying to reach into the audience. This was one of the earlier 3D movies, so the director was contractually obligated to have things that showed of the 3D.
If you had no emotional response to Agnes while watching this film, you are a soul-less monster. I hope you guys watch all the Gru/Minions films; they are so good.
The language the minions speak has actually been formulated by the studio. There is grammar to it, even if it seems nonsensical. It shows the depths to which the studio went for this movie. BTW: the minion shorts still available on YT are just amazing. So great. To relieve your minion urges between the movies.
I had a cousin who would cry and cry so hard, letting all her air out, that she'd passed out when she was mad. So, yes, it's possible and quite frightening the first time it happens. lol.
There is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it thing about the Minions in this movie, where there is a schematic of a minion, showing that they are engineered from corn. That was retconned by the Minions movie, though. Btw: Thank you so much for pushing the whole idea of a unicorn with a flesh-coloured horn. Now I'll never be able to not see that. Like a penicorn... I'll see myself out.
not quite retconned. There are the core minions (the ones in the minion movie) and then there are ones that Gru made based on the core minions. If you consider the amount of them in the present day compared to the origin, there is a massive increase. I also believe it was stated that minions don't reproduce, so that must mean any additions would be from that schematic.
Look up "Bob Nelson Football" on youtube. The first video that should come up is about seven and a half minutes. In that comedy skit, Bob talks about something akin to what you call a penicorn. The whole skit is really funny and worth a watch. The full title is "Rodney Dangerfield, Bob Nelson and an Entire Football Team (1984)"
The minions at the end are trying to reach the audience, back in 2010 there was a huge 3D movies craze since avatar came out and Despicable me was also promoted with the 3D tagline
This movie, initially, confused me. Until I recognized this was a movie basically for adults. It is superficially a kids movie. But it is really for adults to reconnect with their inner kid self. The voice acting is off the charts fantastic. The minions are incredibly well voiced.
I have great memories of when it was new out and I took it to a sleepover at my friends. His older brother and his friends were also there. Originally they were going to watch a different movie but we somehow all ended up watching this together. Great for all ages
The end credits minions are trying to get closer to the camera because the movie was in 3-D (and this was around the first advent of Digital 3D, so full color), and a lot of movies were adding more gimmicks to justify the inflated ticket price.
The bit at the end were the minions were trying to get to the "camera" was because the movie was also in 3D, so they did that bit to mess with the 3D space.
The post credit scene with the minions (the plunger, the tape measure, ect;) was because the movie was shown in 3d, and the minions were pretending to reach out the audience
The next one (Despicable Me 2) is excellent, maybe better than the original. The characters in this movie were immediately recognizable when this movie came out: Vector is Bill Gates; The bank manager is the Pointy Hair Boss from the Dilbert comic strip. The newscaster is David Muir. And also of note: Gru's mother is voiced by Julie Andrews.
Fun fact: the minions actually speak the artificial language of Esperanto! (or at least inspired by it. I don't know how consistent the filmmakers where on that point)
It it my belief that Gru's name is based on the G.R.U. They were a cold war compliment to the K.G.B., Soviet military intelligence service. Girl Scout cookies, my daughter used to be one. Available in the early spring. Where I live they set up a card table in front of a store, like a Safeway or a Lowe's, and sell them. Of course the parents ply their co workers for a substantial potion of the take (What you gonna do when I bend the block?). Despicable Me 2 is really funny as well.
If you're wondering what that ending scene is all about at 30:30 , it's because this movie was released in 3d and that whole scene was meant to showcase 3d depth perception.
11:32 I never thought about it at first, but how did Vector know about the moon heist? 27:17 The great thing about Agnes is that even when Gru gave them back, she still believes in him.
This movie is still one of my favourite animated movies, it’s just so absurd but so fun to watch…also Vector is hilarious as the antagonist, his face when he realises he’s stuck on the moon gets me every time
This was in Real 3D and in your face. So fun, and you missed about half of the film as it was. The Minions at the end were reaching out to the audience as we were all leaving. So FUN!
When I was in Afghanistan, the child of one of my soldiers sent him a copy of this movie, and we all watched it together. I told them that as soon as I found out how to order minions in the supply system, I was replacing all of them.
7:03 George's use for a shrink ray reminds me of Jimmy Bond's plot in 1967's "Casino Royale" to use a biological weapon that would make all women beautiful and kill all men taller than him.
16:55 Chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips (especially still warm from the oven) are the greatest cookies in the world, and I will entertain no arguments on this subject. 😉😋
I relate to this movie so much & seeing it was a beautiful Memory as I had the privilege of adopting my 2 oldest daughters at 7 and 8 years old and saw this in theaters with them shortly after they came into my life , so it has a very special place in my heart. (Bytheway, u were wondering what was going on at the end with the minions and ladder , “ approaching the camera “, this was a 3D movie in theaters , and that sequence was really cool with the minion walking accross the ladder out over the movie audience. Was impressive 3d, my daughters LOVED if! After a few years with my 2 angels I Then had baby girl with my ex (their mom) and she is SO much like the little one in the movie , so now as a single dad of 3 amazing daughters ❤❤❤I can really relate to this movie , gets the emotions flowing when they get taken back to the orphanage and the oldest girl is clearly hurt but trying to protect and be strong for her sisters. It was such an amazing experince suddenly having 2 daughters at ages where we could go do things together and attend their gymnastics , tumbling and cheer events as their dad. Giving them the Love they deserved their whole life has changed my life forever, so amazingly rewarding but feeling their Love back & bieng called daddy by them and my baby is the greatest happiness I could ever imagine. Sadly orphanage adoptions very often end up bad, in the US you can make a good amount of money for adopting orphans so alot of terrible people adopt a bunch of kids and treat them horribly and use the money on themselves . Abuse cases are high as well when children are adopted at older ages. Makes me sick. I adopted my girls from their POS disappointment of a biological father that wanted $25,000 then I could “have them” I ran to an attorney, got everything drawn up, pulled the funds out of the bank and had signed papers from him the next day. In 6 years he came to see them once but actually came to snowboard for a week , asked me to take them to a movie and drop them off , then asked me to pay for them and text halfway thru the movie and asked me to come get them becasue he was going snowboarding. It broke their hearts , he told them he’d come say goodbye before he left and never did , didn’t even call. Seeing a 7 and 8 years girls embarrassed and heart broken destroyed me. I decided right then I was going to do my best to take that pain and disappoint away and be the dad they deserved. I asked them a week later how they would feel about me adopting them from their bio dad, the smiles on their faces are and excitement is soenthinbrg I’ll always remember! They started calling me daddy that day. They are SO amazing and the most loving daughters anyone could ask for as well as amazing big sisters to my youngest daughter. If you have the desire to be a parent through thick and thin & do it for the right reasons, forever, adopting children that are older than babies is truly life changing for them as well as you. Babies get adopted SO fast and people wait on waiting lists for years and years to adopt an infant while children 5, 6, 7 , 12, , 14 years old rarely get looked at except by terrible human beings. They hope and pray to be adopted and continually get passed over and disappointed and becasue of that, if you adopt them and Love them as your own , the Love they return is so powerful. I Love this movie because this single bachelor initially takes then in for anterior motives but almost instantly falls in love with them experiencing fatherhood and total love and adoration from his new daughters changing their lives and his. I’m not an evil villain and didn’t have anterior motives but they were SO much like the girls in the movie in so many ways and they quickly become his everything as my girls have to me. If anyone ever has the desire to change a child’s life that’s feeling hopeless and abandoned, it’s an experience on the level of having a baby of your own in terms of what an amazing change you experince and a Love you’ve never felt in your life. Little bit of a rant, sorry , just a special movie to me and my girls, happy you enjoyed it so much and how much you loved the girls in the movie. You both have great hearts, it’s very clear and if either or both of you at some point chose to become parents I can tell you’ll both be amazing parents. ❤
So cool little fact, the soundtrack for the movie was composed by Pharrell Williams, you know that one guy who made the upbeat song about being upbeat.
Also, when I walk out my front door, I can see the giant minion at Universal Studios that looks out over the city (and straight down the road that leads up to the theme park). 'k, bye.
Actually, Yellow is The New Black is a mini movie (a three minute short, most shorts are between 5 and 10 minutes, 7 is standard) and there are several mini movies to most Illumination movies, two centered around the Minions and one that is connected to the main movie (Despicable Me 1 and 2 had Home Makeover and Training Wheels, centered around the girls), though The Sing movies had mini movies all connected to The Sing characters instead of two Minion Mini-Movies.
I always make it a point to say "Clink!" Every time me and the boys have drinks and somebody says cheers🔥😂 Side note: DM2 is such a good movie too, very quotable lol
I had TOTALLY forgotten that this movie was reelased in 3D, that's what was going on with the end credits with the Minions, they were trying to reach the audience.
I do like the bit with the poster description. Did you know that if you do eight comedy bits in one video, it's equal to one comedy byte? You're welcome.
Another amazing, batshit crazy animated film worth a watch (apart from Despicible Me 2!) is the Penguins of Madagascar. Staring John Malkovich and is one hell of a ride. Must have watched Madagascar to get the gist however... Much love to this reaction, you guys always have me in tears
Ahh the merry go round the greatest death contraption kids can play on, im a giant so my role was to get everyone spinning as fast as i could then jump on while not being dragged or flung.
I've never seen Thumbelina. I've seen The Littles (TV series), "Arrietty" the Borrower (Studio Ghibli, and Furn Gulley(cartoon movie from 90's Robin Williams/Christian Slater/Tim Curry). There's a few more like that but I can't remember them off the top of my head.
I always thought that the image for "Dumb and Dumber" with Simone as Lloyd was the most disturbing promo image. You've finally beaten that. George with Minion eyes beats that by a mile! ;)
What is the fluffiest thing you've ever held?
Fun little fact, they had an app on for your phone where it translated the minions so you could understand them.
Dunno about a physical thing... have held one or two concepts or ideas that might meet that description..
How have you not had her watch "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy yet?" :-)
My dog when he was a baby ❤️🥹
A chinchilla. No contest.

MEGAMIND MEGAMIND MEGAMIND
Omg yes please watch Megamind it’s great
Yes! MEGAMIND!
Megamind is really underrated
I agree. It's a much better film than Despicable Me. I like them both.
I can still make my daughters (29 and 33) laugh out loud, just by shouting:"it's so fluffy!"
Ha! Awesome! I’m a single dad of a 5, 14 & 16 year old daughters and man the times passing way too fast, scares me. This quote is now one of the most famous line ever!
Fun reaction 😄. The end credits scenes were made for viewing in 3D in cinemas. That's why they are trying to get close to the viewer.
It was totally unexpected and had the entire screening in peels of laughter when I first saw it. (In 3D.)
The 3D on this actually looks really good. This is one of the few 3D Blu rays I own, but my cat ruined the TV and I haven't replaced it. Womp womp.
This was 2010, one year after Cameron's Avatar was released, and for a few years after its release almost every family/adventure/fantasy/sci-fi movie had to have at least one sequence shot specifically for 3D. Simone loving Agnes is just the thing we all needed to start 2023 off with
I couldn't figure out which was more adorable: Agnes being Agnes or Simone reacting to Agnes being Agnes.
Her best line that was cut, but I think is on the director's cut Blu-ray.
"I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!"
I love the bank sign. If you look closer, in fine print below it says "Formerly Lehman Brothers" XD
If I had a shrink ray, I’d shrink Disney world to make the worlds coolest, and most detailed miniature railroad setup, and then I would charge people to be shrunk down to go to the parks
The “you have a face….como un burro” line kills me every damn time I see this movie 😂
I think these guys missed that joke. Burro is a donkey in Spanish, burrito means little donkey!
George trying to establish logic in an animated kids comedy is so on brand.
We got a new cat when this movie came out. We named her Agnes because she was SO FLUFFY
19:22 I Love That Part , Its So Fluffy . Agnes Is Adorable.
I LOVE that Gru's mother is played by Julie Andrews lol
14:08 Yes, there was a time when people thought you could cause yourself brain damage by holding your breath, and some kids picked up on that to essentially hold themselves hostage.
14:30 According to the studio, the minions were originally intended to be genetically engineered corn kernels. They proved so popular, though, that they retconned that into something different for subsequent movies.
18:22 Yes you are!
30:47 They're trying to reach into the audience. This was one of the earlier 3D movies, so the director was contractually obligated to have things that showed of the 3D.
If that's true about the minions originally being corn, I wonder if they were originally designed with either one or two ears, instead of eyes? 🤔😂
If you had no emotional response to Agnes while watching this film, you are a soul-less monster.
I hope you guys watch all the Gru/Minions films; they are so good.
By Simone's reaction at 16:59, her favorite kind of cookie is YES
The language the minions speak has actually been formulated by the studio. There is grammar to it, even if it seems nonsensical. It shows the depths to which the studio went for this movie.

The language spoken by Minions includes words from French, English, Spanish, Hindi, and Korean.

George, you have no idea how awesome it is to see someone randomly dropping Hitchhikers Guide references.
They need to react to HHGTTG but the BBC tv series rather than the Disney Movie
@@madmatt4242 Absolutely. The only thing the movie got right was Marvin, imho.
The minions at the end are trying to reach the audience, back in 2010 there was a huge 3D movies craze since avatar came out and Despicable me was also promoted with the 3D tagline
Can we take a moment to appreciate how perfect Simone's makeup is? Truly impressive!
The Minions at the end were trying to see who could reach out the farthest.
"The Bank of Evil (formally Lehman Brothers)" Not astonished you didn't get that 2008 financial crisis reference.
Believe it or not, Minion TikTaks we're actually a promotional item released around the film.
The end credits minions are trying to get closer to the camera because the movie was in 3-D (and this was around the first advent of Digital 3D, so full color), and a lot of movies were adding more gimmicks to justify the inflated ticket price.
This is actually one of the few modern franchises that I'm always excited for a new movie. Combining charm with heart! LOVE 'EM!
Best parts are Simone peaking out the levels imitating the girl, and also the kitty book making her sleepy

The characters in this movie were immediately recognizable when this movie came out: Vector is Bill Gates; The bank manager is the Pointy Hair Boss from the Dilbert comic strip. I love the minions so much! Every single movie they’re in brings me joy. The rise of Gru had me laughing harder than every kid in the theater. 😂
Fun fact: the minions actually speak the artificial language of Esperanto! (or at least inspired by it. I don't know how consistent the filmmakers where on that point)
Minions don't speak English but it works in the movies by surrounding them with English speakers, context clues, and sometimes a narrator.
It it my belief that Gru's name is based on the G.R.U. They were a cold war compliment to the K.G.B., Soviet military intelligence service. Girl Scout cookies, my daughter used to be one. AGNES is the 1st reason I watch this movie,, she's so adorable..
31:09 I think the credit sequence is just a device to highlight the 3D version of the film.
The credit sequence with the minions made more sense when watched in 3D in a cinema
18:22 Raising your arms makes it 10X more fun.
If you're wondering what that ending scene is all about at 30:30 , it's because this movie was released in 3d and that whole scene was meant to showcase 3d depth perception.
11:32 I never thought about it at first, but how did Vector know about the moon heist?
27:17 The great thing about Agnes is that even when Gru gave them back, she still believes in him.
i like how Gru becomes invincible when he realizes Vector stole his daughters
Bro just got the dad buff
George -"most things need to get bigger" and Simone just gets more sweet and adorable. No wonder people love to hang out with you.
So FUN!
You know who also says despicable? Daffy Duck he always said that to Bugs Bunny: "You're Despicable"
In case you missed it Gru’s mom is the _legendary_ Julie Andrews. I have no idea how they got her to voice cast this movie. 🤣
Just remember that the movie was in 3D vision, which explains the jokes during the end credits.
This is one of my all time favorite animated movies. "Its so fluffy I'm gonna die!" hahaha Thanks for watching it.
You guys should watch Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny.
Epic movie
That would be great
It did not mean...to blow their minds...

I'm not surprised you've never seen it before. In fact, that was fun.
I AM surprised you've never HEARD of it before. Mostly minions.
For reference, the ending scene with the minions reaching forward was for the 3D release.
7:03 George's use for a shrink ray reminds me of Jimmy Bond's plot in 1967's "Casino Royale" to use a biological weapon that would make all women beautiful and kill all men taller than him.

When the movie was in theaters, you could see it in 3D. That's why the Minions were reaching out at the end of the movie (for the 3D effect).
I know its just a kids movie but I can’t not think of all the catastrophic issues that would be caused with the moon being gone
Also, when I walk out my front door, I can see the giant minion at Universal Studios that looks out over the city (and straight down the road that leads up to the theme park). 'k, bye.
What the Minions were trying to do in the credits was a competition of who could reach the furtherest.
30:48 When this movie was released it was also in theaters (In 3D).
I went and saw it in theaters and in 3D so at the end, when they were trying to see who got the closest to "us" makes sense...
Three words regarding that song. "Saturday... Night... Fever"...
Absolutely loving that Epica shirt
the minion activity at the end was because the movie was released in 3D in the theatres,
30:47 When the movie came out, it was in 3D. So they were just going hard in the 3Dness here lol
«It’s so fluffy!» is my sms-tone on my phone:)
The minion movie was actually great. I didn’t know how it would work but it did!
George your evil plan sounds like something Mojo Jojo would do.
All the super close stuff at the end during the credits was a bigger deal because the film came out in 3D when released in theaters
“Does this count as annoying???”
OMG George’s reaction gave me all the life. 😂
My sister and I quote "It's so fluffy!" all the time, especially for cute plushy things.
When I was a kid I actually had Minion Tic-tacs all the time, and they were yellow, I even got in trouble for eating them while in the bathtub. 😅
MOAR ANIMATION! RIGHT MEOW!!! 🐈🐈⬛🐈
i don't know why but when i see the "its so fluffy" bit, i can simone doing that 😄
I always make it a point to say "Clink!" Every time me and the boys have drinks and somebody says cheers🔥😂
Side note: DM2 is such a good movie too, very quotable lol
The film was released in 3d so in all the bits at end they were playing with the 3d sticking out effect. Steve
"It's like Magrathea!"
"What?"
Has she never seen him in that shirt???
Despicable me is TOP Tier I love all of em 🎉🎉🎉 I’m super happy y’all loved this movie
Are you serious? This movie is pathetic. Gru didn't kill anyone throughout the entire movie. What kind of villain is that?
The greatest Girl Scout cookie ever made is the Thin Mint. Toss them in the freezer, and oh my god; I could eat an entire sleeve of them.
"If Slenderman started working out but skipped leg day." :D :D :D :D :D :D
I had TOTALLY forgotten that this movie was reelased in 3D, that's what was going on with the end credits with the Minions, they were trying to reach the audience.
My nephews honestly love this movie... If not a little too much since whenever they visit they asked to watch it
I would shrink down the plastic patch in the Ocean from the size 3 times of France, to lets say a light bulb. :)
That song “on my friend’s dad’s cd” is from Saturday Night Fever. That would be a good one for you two.
I do like the bit with the poster description. Did you know that if you do eight comedy bits in one video, it's equal to one comedy byte?
You're welcome.
If I recall, Minions shows from beginning of history how they find a Master or Boss to serve
FYI - The ending part where the minions were trying to get close to the screen is because the movie was released in 3D.
George with Minion eyes beats that by a mile! ;)
Now you should watch the entire franchise
Vectors place is amazing it’s 60’s modern, Groo is the one who needs a decorator.
