Beautiful cabin, hope you get the bank stabilized. That's a never-ending battle. We used to camp on an island north of Nenana. The whole island disappeared.
I really love and enjoying watching your channel , you trained the boys really well , when they full grown, ready to leave the nest , they will appreciate and full of experience in their tool box , ❤ I can’t wait to see you start to build your house soon ,
Glad you like the videos, so far 2 of the 4 boys built and own their homes. We are working on my 3rd oldest son Aaron’s house now which he is also paying for out of pocket. For Owen he’s still in highschool so he’s got a couple more yrs. We hope to start building our house next summer
I found your channel about 3 1/2 months and started watching your videos from 4 years ago first. Today I finished the last video (latest video). Your family is awesome and there doesn't seem to be anything you can't do. I'm looking forward to the next video and especially the ones with the new home build. Stay safe! Mike in Jacksonville Florida.
Lots of boulders on your river bank. Do not take out your tree stumps. Idk why someone would suggest that. The roots help keep the soil from washing away even more. Also you'll need a lot more piles put into the ground, not just in the water but on the side of the bank. Erosion is a property killer and I hope you get. it straightened out. Good luck to you and your family.
That river will go where it wants to. I used to fish a place for sockeye on the Gulkana river. This place had above ground a boulder the size of a VW no idea how far underground it went. The next summer I went back to my usual spot and that boulder was gone probably taken out by ice at breakup. Sure do miss it😊
What you are doing is similar to cribbing on a trout stream . It holds the bank and helps with erosion. Looks like it'll work well. Also it's amazing how those old Polaris 6x6s hold up to the most grueling conditions.
My grandma live in the rural next to the river , she got the same problem, to prevent the water wash away those areas, she hired the guys to add some concrete polls like garden wall , then she planned palm tree and bamboo tree , those roots very strong to hold them well . And she add more gravel , then dirt next to the garden cement to hold it well .
Hey, I love your content. You have a beautiful piece of heaven. I live in Florida, and Florida sure isn't Alaska. With that said, we do have shoreline road/beach erosion constantly, especially during hurricane season. The state uses large equipment to haul and place huge limestone rocks to mitigate the erosion. I know that's not possible where your camp is located. A suggestion would be to add some river rock from a sand bar to sure up those logs. My understanding of Alaska's spring runoff can be really bad, depending on the winter snow pack. I know that's a lot of extra work and painful for the back and legs. Just a suggestion from a Southerner. ✌️🙏
I think that would work great but without equipment would be almost impossible for us to haul that much gravel. During high water there is a lot of silt in the water I think that the silt is going to pack in between the logs and tie them together that’s one of the reasons for all of the branches and willows. We will see!!
We actually have everything up there sitting on the covered deck to build the cover I just keep running out of time. I should get it covered early this winter

@@lisanowakow3688 I think when we have high water the silt from the river will fill in and lock the trees together. We went back up to the cabin and finished the project by pounding the pipe all the way down to the level of the wood and anchored everything to the bank.
cut out all the stumps if possible.. next to the shoreline.. that way any soil erroding underneithe the roots (next time the river level rises in flooding).. there will be lesser errosion around the cabin.

We just got back from the cabin. All of the pipes have been cabled and anchored to the bank. For the generator my plan is to put it in its own building(our old outhouse)away from the cabins.
Great video as always. Do you have to get permission to put up that erosion barrier? Imagine some government entity would have a problem with you “altering” the river. None of my business, but just curious.
It’s too bad you can’t borrow a barge or flat cargo boat and bring your skid steer up to move some serious lumber and fix that bank. You could dig out a nice little cove or protected slot to park the boats.
1. Mainly because they were leaning towards the water and I didn’t want to comalong them up to where I needed them. 2. we have more trees on the property then I know what to do with 3. I used to cable trees like that to its own stump when I cut it and let it set next to the bank to help with erosion. But I’ve had ice catch the tree and rip the stump that it’s cabled to ripping my bank into the river.
So I am no one to provide feedback for shore erosion but I do have experience in saving tree's in Midwest Missouri and its due to high winds, rain storms and tornadoes... What I am proposing is cabling the tree's that line the bank... I have with my Dad's experience a total of 2 large silver maples, 3 Sweet Gums, 4 Bradford pears, and 3 white birch tree's on 3 of our properties that we had a professional tree service cable 60% of those tree's.. The rest me, family and friends helped with after seeing what the crews did... None of those tree's are going anywhere... Look into this. I think this will help out hugely for securing the bank line especially those tree's that carry huge root balls close to the shore line..
Are you saying cable the trees near the river to other trees to keep them from falling? I’ve decided to just cut trees down near the river to keep them from falling and ripping roots out.
Yes my thought is if you can cable the trees that are along the shoreline to those that are more inland then that should help secure the root bases for those outlying trees.
Why not put large rock boulders along the eroding bank? The logs are okay but large overlapped boulders would have been better because they won't rot. I would have loaded big boulders up on a shallow ramp barge and poured them along the bank or used a crane and stacked them up along the eroding bank. Someone whose lived along the Mississippi River, id used large boulders. Wood rots quick when exposed and sitting in water. Also, you're going to have one heck of a beaver problem too once they know the logs are there. Its going to be a mess. Just curious. Nice place there!
at 11:04 approx..as u were speaking someone whispers SUPER low and quiet " Yeah, I know"..... u gotta have earbuds/ earphones to hear it but its there..
I hope I get through the first breakup it should drop enough silt between the logs to lock them together. I think you’re right depending how violent the breakup is

Your right rock would be better but we have absolutely no feasible way to get rock way up the river and there isn’t any rock near the property.
at 11:04 approx..as u were speaking someone whispers SUPER low and quiet " Yeah, I know"..... u gotta have earbuds/ earphones to hear it but its there..
lets hope that the first flood dont wash it all away
We will see, some breakups are violent when the ice jambs
You need way more pipes!
I hope I get through the first breakup it should drop enough silt between the logs to lock them together. I think you’re right depending how violent the breakup is
🇳🇴👍👍👌
Rather undeveloped site of an large property with an active Railroad tracks that near, and/or next to the property.
Looking for large Pine and Oak Trees on Property
Whats going to stop the logs from floating up when the water in the river rises?
@@truckguy6.7 we just got back last night from the cabin. we tied the cable into the bank that was attached to the first log and every pipe has cable anchored in the bank. I turned out better then I thought it would should have a video out this weekend
@@diyalaskanlifestyle I have a friend here in northern BC who has been trying to control a river which appears to be aprox the same size. They have tried everything. Those rivers pack some amazing power.
What wood stove do you use for hot tub?
@@vulptex3714 I built it

My last trip in the winter/spring we try and get anything off the ground that’s worth anything. Also all of my cabins are up off the ground a couple ft so we should be good
This is ridiculous -I'm not an environmentalist but this is leaving a huge carbon footprint ruining pristine land. What a narcissistic piece of garbage
Sounds to me like your in denial
