You have forgotten the meaning of these words. Shouldn’t a punishment end? I bet you and I have both known people who have “gotten saved” or “rededicated their life” more than once out of paranoia, being praised every time. Not an uncommon experience in the church at all. Yet I’ve already had several comments on this video saying that my experience of that paranoia proves that I was “never a true Christian.” A baseless, self-serving narrative at best, and gaslighting at worst.

I had a friend in undergrad who became an atheist in part because of her fear of hell. It gave her anxiety/panic attacks. What's funny is that she gave up her faith before I did and her father is a pastor. I tried doing Bible studies with her in a desperate, last-ditch attempt to cling to my faith, but we only had one meeting before she gave up her faith. About a year later I became an agnostic.

I don’t know where you guys went to church when you were young but hell was rarely mentioned in our church. The fear of hell almost never crosses my mind as a Christian.May be because I am from the eastern side of the world where Christianity is practiced differently. The idea of being saved in a moment of time is not part of our faith. Also we don’t know what Gehenna looked like few thousands years ago.It was supposedly the land field of the time where animals remains and city garbage was burned in addition to human child sacrifice offered to god Moloch.

@@historian9484 I grew up in the Midwest of the US. Christianity can be pretty hard-core for many devout Americans, and the fear of hell is very common. "Fire and brinstone" pastors is a phrase for a reason, and the fear of hell was an argument basically used by my family in their attempt to persuade me back to Christianity after my sister outed me as an atheist. There are people who get disowned by their family members if they leave the faith of their family, my sister knows a girl whose Jewish family disowned her after the girl converted to Christianity. Religion is a major part of people's identity. Even the former Vice President, Mike Pence, said in a speech that he was first a Christian before being a conservative or Republican, and a LOT of politicians in the US will reference their faith in Christianity in official speeches.

It's so sad people are falling for the plan of the enemies of the human soul..Hell is NOT man made, it never has been. People of all belief systems have been there in their spirit and come back. They all know it's real when they come back. While many will seek healing bc of the trauma it may cause, it's even worse to be lied to and realized when we enter the spirit that you were wrong. Too many people have been to hell in their spirit. They describe it sometimes with tears in their eyes in very close detail to others.
There was an expedition also to the core of the earth by scientists where they were so sure they heard screams like they've never encountered. The dug into the core of the earth, where many say hell is in the spirit world. Some of the scientists were so freaked out that they stopped the project..While thinking of such a place can cause a lot internally, it's best to know such a place is real rather than molding a lie for yourself only to find out it is after we step into eternity. Just like prison and punishment is real here on earth, it's real in the spirit world, that's what hell is, only a lot worse than on earth. Hell is a very real place in the spirit world, just like heaven is..

@@Ty-wf6mg That's the common Christian opinion - that people would be less depressed if they believed in God. Couldn't be more wrong. We just live in a society that isn't design for human well-being. We value money, success and effectivity more than anything else. Wars(initiated be Christians, mind you) left our parents and older generations traumatized in a way they couldn't do anything about it except for suppressing it and I mind you - older generations are very religious. They are not any more mentally healthy than us. All they could do at their time was suck it up and go on. We, on the other hand, have information and therapist available. And with therapy there's much more peace than with some stupid gods. Christians are just full of opinions. Every single Christian has their own version of Christianity in their head and that's why there's such a chaos. That's why there's like millions of Christian sects. I can say one bullshit that a Christian said to me to another Christian and he'll said it's bullshit, because he "feels it differently". Guess what. Everyone feels it differently. I'm at peace with thinking that there's no god and no malicious Christians go to heaven while I, while trying my best at being a good person, go to hell cause I wasn't really sorry after doing something minorly wrong, or not believing in god.

You don't have to believe. Christ showed everyone how to live and God gave the commandments as rules to live by. The whole bible isn't about how to get into heaven. It's about how to live morally, ethically, equally and kindly amounts your fellow mankind. Jesus healed the sick, fed the hungry, helped slaves. When he said through me you get to the father. He meant, take my examples of how to treat and live with and around others. THIS IS THE WAY. Just be kind, considerate, helpful ECT. The bible isn't a guide to get into heaven, it's full of lessons on how to live a pure life. Don't live this way, just to gain personal assurances to the Afterlife. Live this way, because it's the humane way to live, it's that simple. Forget belief....just live with heart.enrich your soul and even more importantly, enrich others. ALWAYS HEART (belief or no belief)💜

Here is my story. I was born into the southern baptist community right in the middle of the Bible Belt here in Alabama. My Paw Paw and my entire family has always been close with God. When I was about 6 or 7 I had just gotten out of school one day and I had a feeling pulling me to getting saved. I was Baptized about a week or two later. Out of all the moments of my life that’s the only time I thought I felt a genuine connection to God. After that it all fell down hill for me. You see throughout my life I was always taught that you need to be in a church pew on Sunday mornings and to try to be at every church function possible. I never really thought the Bible was all that interesting personally but I was taught it was the best book and if you disagreed then it was basically a sin. I found the services so boring that the only thing getting me through was waiting to go out to eat afterwards. It wasn’t until I was about 10 or 11 but my church was showing a movie about the rapture and the end times. Keep in mind I was not aware of this and my first exposure to it was this movie. I was absolutely horrified and scarred and I basically lived the next few years wondering if it was going to happen if I was saved enough to go to heaven. The only consolation my family offered was if your right with God then you have nothing to worry about. That’s the thing, how was I supposed to know if I was right with God? I prayed and prayed but nothing seemed to put my mind at peace. During my teenage years up to when I was 21 I attended a youth group with friends at a different church and truthfully the only reason I went was because of my friends. I heard the same dogma over and over again from the old youth pastor and it left me feeling indifferent to things. At this last Easter I remember an aunt of mine who’s a “true Christian” say “If you dont have God in your life then your miserable”. It wasn’t said to me, it was just being tounge and cheeky. Basically in closing, this year I have really questioned my faith. I wouldn’t say I’m a Christian anymore because it seems like Christians today would be an embarrassment to God with their behavior. I do think there is something out there greater than us. I guess what I’m trying to say is that, I want to believe in God but I just can’t since the evidence doesn’t add up. Thank you for those taking to time to read this.

Hey Dan just read your comment and after reading the last part I understand how you feel. I want to believe as well but it almost feels impossible especially with everything that's going on in the world today especially with Russia and threat of nuclear war and people saying oh God will never let that happen but humans are crazy and I don't think any supernatural whatever is going to stop (or even cares to want to) a crazy person from launching nukes or if this so called god actually enjoys watching the world suffer. I mean there's a UA-camr by the name of Morgue and that's how he looks at the god of this world(a war god) and sometimes I don't think he's too far off. I mean if you really look at the world that we have today things aren't getting any better they're only getting worse and it seems the worse it's getting maybe there's more enjoyment and seeing that happen. That's just my two cents on everything anymore. Maybe I'm wrong I Don't know all I know is but it comes to an all-powerful being I don't know what to think anymore.

When I hear the words “child abuse” I immediately think of the physical torments inflicted on children by clergymen - and of the mental torture that so often follows. But now, having heard you describe the hellish tortures directly injected into your brain by church teachers, I know for sure that “child abuse” encompasses a far wider category of criminal wrongdoing.
The physical abuse is against the law and will hopefully be punished if found out, but what about the constant and nearly universal mental abuse inflicted on children by the church? Can we hope that one day this torture of the innocents will also be deemed a crime?

As horrendous as I agree the idea of hell is, I don't think telling children about it can be considered children abuse, because the parents believe it to be a real risk that they're saving their children from. It's not child abuse to teach your child not to run into a busy street. The fact that we don't believe that threat to be real doesn't change the fact that those parents do believe it. If the government passed a law saying you could no longer scare your kids by telling them they'll be run over if they run into the street, you'd be rightly concerned. If the lawmakers try to tell you the traffic on the street is only a hallucination, that would understandably not change your mind.

I was raised as a Jewish atheist. I had to find out if what my folks taught me was actually true.
I'm glad you're seeking. And look at the claims of Jesus too that believers in Him believe. We must look at ALL the data on ALL sides if we're to be intellectually honest.

Yes, it's hard to escape from early religious abuse. I didn't get the fire & brimstone treatment because Catholics are "discouraged" from reading the Bible and the priests and family may use the softer version of separation from God = torment. In high school I switched to praying to Scotty to beam me up. But I occasionally had "But What If" moments, especially after someone used Pascal's Wager on me. That stopped when I realized that it was a "forced Choice" not a realistic one. The forced choice is that you must choose God [Jehovah] or Satan or nothing. But what if the real God is Ahura Mazda, Tiānshū 天樞, or one of the thousands of other Gods mankind has created over the 50,000+ years of human existence? Once that barrier broke, I was truly free!

As an almost 40 year old who was literally raised (my grandfather was a preacher so I was in church every sunday before I could sit up) in a proto- fundamentalist Missionary Baptist church, your channel is incredibly helpful and insightful. I have been deconstructing for the past 16-ish years (maybe longer). I struggled so many with so many aspects of "my faith" in my teens and early 20s and finally have determined that I cannot live in the fear of the church any longer. However, the fear of hell still plagues my nights. This video was relieving in so many ways.
An aside and addition to several other comments: pushing this cyclical fear of hell on children makes GREAT little tiny evangelist - now that I'm terrified of burning forever, and I have been told that not telling others puts their blood "on my hands" well guess where that goes? The evangelical churches just have generations of traumatized people filling its ranks.
But again, thank you for sharing your journey with your fellow apostates.

Legalism kills. Gods saving grace and love toward us is what matters.
      King James Bible
"I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain."
Christ died for you and i while we were yet sinners. Do you know what that means? He didn't offer a 25 step program... he preordained works that we should walk in them yes, but works do not save nor keep us saved.
      Ephesians 2:8
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
I think i have confused the blood on the hands thing as well, but if you look closely you will see that is to the Israelites. THEY are instructed to be a watchman on the wall for Israel, but we are not under the law, we are not in the O.T. Christ has ascended to the right hand of the Father. This began the age of GRACE.
The Gospel went out into the world since that time. Though it is right to speak the Gospel to people out of love. Amen?

We quite literally would pray the rosary three times a week and had a Christian Living class but didn't really do more beyond that. (It gets complicated but I personally think my mom wanted me to decide what I believed in but wanted a school that was religious enough for the family but still technically secular). Those factors made me question things more than others but it wasn't until I was around 14-16 that I just couldn't stop the questions anymore. No answer was satisfying and things just didn't make sense. I don't remember when exactly I said I couldn't believe things anymore but it was definitely sometime when I left college. Over time though, Gehenna made a career and turned into a place of post-mortem punishment, as evidenced by 4th Ezra, 2nd Enoch, the Babylonian Talmud, and then the Quran, where it reappears as "Jahannam", which is the Arabic word for hell.
As our sources are so sparse, it is hard to say, whether Jesus when speaking about Gehenna really only meant the valley or whether his Gehenna was already a transcendental place of post mortem punishment.

The archeological evidence strongy suggests that the ancient Hebrews themselves were Canaanites who migrated to the inland after the late bronze age collapse. The whole story of Joshua's conquest of the holy land which talks about the total eradication of hundreds of Canaanite towns and cities is total fiction whose likely purpose it was to create distance between the Hebrews and their Canaanite ancestors. It's more complicates than that though. There's a whole cycle of abuse. If just telling a child about Hell is abusive, put yourself in the position of someone who believes in it, having been told the same scary story when you were a kid. Your options are: tell your kid about Hell no matter how damaging it could be, or let them actually go spend eternity in a place so bad that even hearing about it is harmful.
There's also the problem of admitting to yourself that it's harmful in the first place. It's easier to insist you grew up the same way and totally turned out fine, than to admit that you were mistreated by the parents you both instinctively love, and were at one point completely dependant on. So harming your own kids becomes a way to protect yourself from acknowledging that you were harmed when the same thing was done to you. You also see this pattern with more mundane forms of normalised child abuse, such as corporal punishment.

From this pov, the very concept of making babies is pure pure cruelty. Dont bring forth new lives if they get burdend from the moment they take in their first breath. Why?? It was a place where human infants were turned into live burnt offerings to an idol with an oven for a belly. That's why Hebrew prophets turned its name around and used it as a metaphor for the fiery wrath of God consuming or immolating the wicked.
Would you hang out in the house where the Manson Family murders took place, or in Hernry Mudgett's "Murder Castle", or Jeffrey Dahmer's pantry, and say "What a peaceful place!"
But notice I said "consume", not "torment eternally". The Hebrews did not believe in that; how could they, when, according to them ,God alone is immortal and lives forever, while human life is contingent on the breath in our nostrils?!
Greeks and Romans however followed Plato and the wacky ideas he picked up in Egypt, such as the silly notion that when you die, you leave your body as a disembodied something and go somewhere. Then they got hold of the Bible, tried to make it fit that when it doesn't , broke both things trying, pureed the fragments together, and gave us the non sequitur smoothie we get served by the religionists of today.
As for fear: the whole point of Christianity is that there IS nothing to fear, and never really was. Jesus is "the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world'; your sins were paid for before you ever committed them. Christ assumed your position as condemned sinner so you could assume his position of righteous son of God with eternal life ; so accept the position. There's no threat of punishment hanging over your head, so stop fearing. But don't neglect to cash in the winning lottery ticket you've been handed either.

Despite being an atheist since I was old enough to give it any real consideration I have always had an irrational fear of hell. This is the effect of consuming a lot of horror movies and books based on Christian, mostly Catholic, concepts of evil.
It is not surprising that writers start with religion when trying to scare us. If the scary story is part of your culture it takes on a personal dimension,, an old story with new teeth. I watched The Exorcist when I was 10 and it brought Hell into focus as the origin of evil and terror. Hell had set up shop in my psyche and the possibility of its existence was hard to shake.
I used to have dreams where I was the exorcist, fighting some demon, usually with the lords prayer. We had to recite it until grade 7, so they were the only words of religious significance I knew. Eventually these dreams changed, the demon became the creature from Alien, then zombies. The feeling stayed the same but the setting changed, my hell was still the source of whatever scared me. A fiery abyss with demons,a spacecraft with a monster, a post-apocalyptic zombie land, they are all Hells, sources of existential horror.
These days I see Hell and Heaven as equally terrifying concepts. Hell for its torments, Heaven for its loss of individual identity. No eternity can be faced by a rational human mind, so both concepts have been relegated to a deep mental basement, referenced only when writing long UA-cam responses to escape the mental indignities of MassTransit. Hell is other people, and they are all on this bus.

@@johnbrzykcy3076 it has to do with the concept of eternity. I can't think of any state of being that I would want to exist in for an infinite amount of time. Most concepts of Heaven revolve around either material or earthly pleasures, I call this the 'paradise ' model or being eternally fulfilled by existing in the presence of God, I call this the 'completion ' model, aside it represents the completion of our incomplete selves by being in the divine presence. The paradise model seems based in wishful thinking and I don't give it much consideration. The completion model assumes we are incomplete without the divine presence and heaven is a union of sorts to complete us, we then spend eternity as a part of the divine. It's solves certain problems with an eternal afterlife because as a part of the divine you would take on the timeless aspect of God. If you become a facet of a timeless being, can any part of you that formed in your temporal existence be relevant, or even present? You would certainly not still be yourself, your individuality would be like a drop of water joining the ocean. Beats singing praises for eternity, but that's just me.
These thoughts were a large part of my taking a more gnostic view on souls and God and a shift to atheism rather than being agnostic. Hope the answer was interesting, it's the first time I have put my thoughts on the matter in writing, so thanks for asking the question.

I said nothing about "mindless sheep singing praises forever" which I consider as ridiculous as the paradise described by some apologists. In theory, heaven doesn't sound terrible. The huge *but* comes, however, when you realize that the human mind isn't structured for a stagnant eternal existence. If you don't lose your mind as it exists now when you go to heaven, it means eventually the good things in heaven will become terrifyingly repetitive, annoying, infuriating, etc. Nothing is forever perfect in grand amounts, not even the good things in heaven. So eventually, even if it takes a long time, you will start to become numb to what's good because your human mind will make you so accustomed to it you'll seek change in any way it can. That's why the concept of heaven as it is in the bible is flawed, no single human being can stay sane there for all eternity because you see heaven as an amazing place now considering the circumstances we live in on earth, but it's a whole different thing hypothetically being there for long. Now the concept changes entirely if your mind changes when you get there, which is terrible in and of itself

@Finn Hi there, random guy a month later whose opinion you didn’t ask for here. If he were purely and only benevolent, fair argument. But God is perfectly
holy. He literally cannot stand in the presence of sin. If we ascended to Him in our current state, we would be obliterated.
Think about it. Why would a perfectly benevolent person allow the filth that is our sin to not only pollute his presence, but his kingdom? Heaven would just be a well-decorated earth if there were no hell for unbelievers. It would just be..the same lol. Rape, indigestion, TikTok, all of it. Forever. And I’m not saying that because I think believers are better and wouldn’t do those things. I’m saying it because believers have the promise of sanctification. Exaltation. The free, massive upgrade that we all need.
I think people who reject hell are just unable to accept the massive and polarizing scope of the battle between good and evil. Pure goodness is so good that it cannot tolerate a single speck of evil, because a single pinprick of light just annihilates them dark. It seems extreme to us, but we aren’t used to 100% pure anything. The devil has us convinced that we aren’t so bad. He has us convinced that hell isn’t a thing, and we believe him because it’s like “Dude I knicked a Snicker’s from the corner store and now I’m going to be set on fire forever?”
But God is so, so good that even the slightest offense cannot stand in his presence, or anywhere in his kingdom. If he were a human man, absolutely - what an A-hole way to act. But he created us. Saying it is wrong for him throw us in the incinerator because we aren’t good enough for him is like saying a kid can’t stomp out his own sandcastle. That kid has sovereignty over the sandcastle. We are just the sand (well, biblically, the “dust.” You get it). Anyway, if you made it this far, applause lol. Cheers and blessings to you

Hell is NOT man made, it never has been. Please, Jesus is real and so is the demonic..I assure you, it's all real, heaven, hell, the spirit world, there are different places. Sin causes the soul to sink and belong to those who own sin, which is demons..They invented these things bc they knew God, they knew His nature, and they know what He dislikes and what separates humans from Him..

Arrogance will be her downfall. If you believe your going somewhere better than everyone else, then your already looking down upon others, instead of doing as Christ did.....to treat each other as your equal. She feels she doesn't have to earn her place because just her belief alone will get her there. A common mistake. Your actions will be your judgement. You can follow a belief, but if your not actively practicing, your not really advancing your soul. Plus if you only do good deeds for personal gain later, this too will stunt your spiritual growth. Christ said, through me you get to the father. Wat he meant was.......look at my actions, i have helped heal the sick, feed the hungry, helped the slaved. Many more miracles. That in actual fact were just good deeds of humanity and kindness. This was his message. True people of GOD do good for no personal end goal. They do these deeds because it's the moral thing to do. She condemned you all, yet there is only one true judge.....GOD. you don't have to believe in religion, in order to take it's lessons and put them into practice in the world. Just have a good heart and nurish and nurture your soul as well as others around you. For no other reason than it's the right way to live alongside your fellow mankind. I hope this helps. Drew, thanks so much for this video. I'm an old man now, going in 78, and my time on the planet is nearing its natural end. I'm embarassed to say that although I'm an atheist, I can't quite shake the fear of going to hell. The funny thing is, unlike you, I was not raised in a fundamentalist family and church. I attended Sunday school at the local mainline Congregational Church (now UCC), where the word hell was hardly mentioned. My mom was raised as a Southern Baptist, but dropped it when she married my yankee dad as a war bride. She must have told me a few times that bad people go to hell and good people go to heaven. The point is, the fear of hell wasn't drummed into me at, home, but I picked it up "God knows" where.
Watching videos like this one and following various UA-cam bloggers like yourself have helped tremendously. The whole notion of a supposedly omnibenevolent God even creating a place like an eternal hell is ridiculous. Anyway, I won't go on with all the reasons why hell makes no sense - reasons you already know. With me, it's a battle between my rational intellect and my primitive fear of hell. I keep chipping away at that fear. I hadn't realized how much Plato's made up story about a hole in the ground and a hole in the sky got transformed in the hellenized Jewish world into what became Christian dogma about heaven and hell.
Anyway, I've gone on long enough here. Thanks for reading this. Your vids have been a big help to me as I struggle with my irrational fear of hell. I wish you and your lovely wife and all your friends and associates all the best in your respective journeys.

A video I didn't even know I wanted - but I did, and it's inspired me to tell you all how a pastor broke my faith when I was 8 years old by showing me that Hell, Christianity, and adults in general were all bullsh*t.
I took to the Bible early, on my own, despite my family having no real religious involvement. The stories, the apparent complexity, and a system of rules really appealed to a nascent nerdy kid from a chaotic, broken home. I attended Sunday school, competed in Bible study, the whole nine yards. But the more seriously I took it, and the more I studied, the more the logical and philosophical inconsistencies we all know about became hard to ignore.
Hell, in particular, was a real problem for my young scientific mind. Some sources acted like it was metaphorical, others like it was real - was there fire, what if they like fire? How does it contain everyone, when there are more people all the time? These questions (not even doubts, yet) began to build until I began confronting my teachers about it on Sunday. Eventually, one of them got fed up and decided to use what he must have considered the "atom bomb" of child indoctrination.
It is a moment I've never forgotten, and I've literally never spoken of it before but always knew this moron, in underestimating a child's mind, basically jumpstarted my Atheism.
As I recall, he gathered me and 2 other kids (were they also 'hard cases'?) and took us down to the basement to what I as an adult know was the Boiler Room, and the furnace. He opened it and showed us all the fire inside: "There - that's Hell, that's where you're going to go if you sin."
Yes, it was noisy and hot and scary but in no way what I imagined as Hell. It simply wasn't worthy of the awe I felt about God.
That was it; My belief evaporated at once. I had built-up this magnificent, awe-inspiring concept of God and his world - it was all supposed to be bigger, grander, barely comprehensible by mere mortals. This jackass is showing me an overblown oven. I was no idiot, that's just an ordinary fire like regular humans make. It was like seeing Mall Santa Claus naked with his fake beard in his hand.
I was rudely awakened to the dishonesty of adults (and just, people) and - worse - to the flimsy, cheap, disingenuous reality of faith: "This faker doesn't even believe it".
I probably spent a few years trying to disprove this epiphany, but you all know how that goes -- the more sincerely your effort to prove it true, the more you will find yourself forced to accept that it was all, all of it, a lie.

      @traguna00 2 роки тому +3

Sounds like the guy was an idiot. But I’m interested to hear how that spiraled if you were so enthralled with it before you were told that specifically. Why wouldn’t you just write it off as “well obviously he doesn’t know what I want to know so I’ll ask somebody smarter than him?” Just curious.

    • @Unhacker
      @Unhacker 2 роки тому +17

@@traguna00 That's a good question, thanks! I remember crying at home about it, but I was the one 'weirdo' in my family getting into religion, so there were probably sighs of relief when I stopped going to church. I remember when people would accuse me later, as a teenage atheist, of "just being angry at god" (that old saw) so maybe I secretly harbored some resentment but it would've been toward human duplicity, not a character in a story I used to love.
What's funny is I took a circuitous route to secularism, basically hesitant to give-up this idea of "something magical", somewhere. I wonder how many others have to travel the same road? Maybe the God thing was BS but what about witchcraft? Astrology? Big foot, ghosts, transcendental meditation chupa freaking cabra you name it I tried it all haha.
But when yiu finally give up that quest for a delusion of "something more" and actually learn about the Real World - science - omg then you find the Real Magic! All of the complexity, wonder, inspiration I thought I'd find in god is actually real, in Evolution, Astronomy, Biology, my gods we can explain how sh*t actually works that's so amazing it moves me to tears of joy. We're amazing! I'm proud to be one of us. :)
I often remember this Douglas Adams line, when I hear theists claim that life needs god for meaning: "Why is it not enough that the lake in the forest is beautiful, without people demanding that there also be fairies at the bottom of it?" :)

Because that has even less evidence, to such a degree that it seems to make the date which the park was named irrelevant.

The fact that so many people in the comments have such traumatic memories from their childhoods of being threatened with hell has made me realize that I probably never really believed that hell actually existed.
I was raised in a moderately religious family. My grandfather is a Minister. We went to church every week. I sang in the choir and went on church retreats. But it always felt like something I was SUPPOSED to believe in, not something that I actually did believed in.
I remember telling my grandfather that I didn't believe in Satan when I was 5 or 6. It seemed to me that Satan was just another movie monster, and I knew that those weren't real... But then I remember him telling me that if I didn't believe in Satan, I was saying that I didn't believe in God. I think that was the first time I realized that it was a choice, that some people didn't believe that God was real. Before that, I thought everyone believed in God.
I don't really know what I did or didn't believe when, I think it probably started to crumble around age 9 when I learned Santa wasn't real, but I know I tried to believe in something up until my mid twenties, but never really managed to buy it... That's when I finally gave up pretending to believe.

I relate to this a lot. I was raised Christian, and even though I hated going to church I never doubted the truth of God's existence because I'd never considered the possibility before. This changed when I got to middle school. At the start of the year, my school had a group of older students talk about their lives, and a few of them said that they were atheists. I reaction was "wait, that's an option?" After that, I started earnestly exploring the issue of god and religion and quickly came to the conclusion that it was BS. I've learned a lot more about both religion and the world since then, but every new thing I learn has confirmed that I made the right decision

@@LeviAraujo01, have you envied the things others own? Have you lusted for the flesh of another? Have you let greed touch your heart? Have you done nothing when you should have done something? Have you let anger control you but for a moment? Have you taken pride for the things you’ve done and downplayed the credits others have done?
If you have done but an iota of those things, then you have committed an evil deed. Even a minor transgression is still a transgression.
No one is innocent of those things for our nature is that of sin. Therefore, it is important we admit to our faults - our sins - to ourselves, at least, or to those we’ve wronged.
To not admit fault is to condemn one’s self of their transgressions.

Knowing God will not protect you from harm no matter how hard you prayed or how good you try to be, there is so much suffering you can experience and still breathe air and your heart still beating.... for years hoping something will change, even wishing you would just die. Hell doesn't scare me. Reality does.

What does ETERNITY represent? IT'S FOREVER!! IT´S A LONG TIME!!
The question is, where will you go after you die and enter ETERNITY? Have you ever lied? Hated someone? Did you steal something? If you have committed any of these acts, in God's eyes you are a liar, a murderer and a thief! Under these conditions, you will spend ETERNITY IN HELL!!! But this is not God's desire for you. JESUS CHRIST died for you and rose on the third day. HE did this so that you would be forgiven of your sins and have a relationship with God. If you repent of your sins (turn away from them) receive and trust in JESUS CHRIST, you will be forgiven by Him and have the guarantee of ETERNAL LIFE!!! The Bible says that God will make you BORN AGAIN. He will give you a New Heart and New Desires. THAT'S THE TRUTH!!! Do this today, before you enter ETERNITY!!! Tomorrow could be too late!!!

Your video really touched me, as a former devout believer going through similar scare tactics truly shaped my skepticism as an adult. I’m sure you’re aware of the documentary Hell House regarding this dramatization of conversion through scare tactics and having gone through one myself it saddens me the lengths some believers will go towards conversions. Love your video, would love to see you cover this documentary if you haven’t already.

The MOST IMPORTANT question of our lifes is: Where do we go, after death? Well, there are only two outcomes, HEAVEN OR HELL!!!
This is the Gospel of the JESUS CHRIST:
Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day. He shed His blood on the cross for you. Your part is to Repent of your sins and Trust in Him. BUT, you MUST Trust in the Jesus of the Bible!! You MUST BELIEVE the Gospel of Jesus!!! Because, IF you don`t, you will be cast in the LAKE OF FIRE, for ALL ETERNITY!!! Repent of ALL your sins and Trust in the RIGHT Jesus today and God will save you. He will grant you eternal life, not because you earned it, deserve it or because you are a good person, but because He wants to give you eternal life as a FREE GIFT!!! THIS IS THE TRUTH!!! The Bible says that God will make you BORN AGAIN. He will give you a New Heart and New Desires. Accept it today!!! Tomorrow maybe too late!!

I can't imagine growing up like this. My mom was religious and in her heart very devout, but she never talked about hell or tried to scare or threaten us. Church was a cheerful place for fellowship and doing good, the brand of Christianity there was optimistic and the people were mostly sweet and mellow, they were focused on salvation, not sin, heaven, not hell.

I appreciate your telling of the ideas of ancient Jews. I was raised Jewish and was told about heaven and that we didn't exactly believe in it, and definitely didn't believe in hell. I was also told about what Christians believed, because I was raised in the bible belt, and had to come face to face with Christians daily. Sadly, most Christians I met were anti-semitic. I fought almost daily. At the age of 7, I began to think religion on the whole was all lies adults told children to keep them in line. The more I learned about religion and the more I began to realize adults believed the nonsense I was reading about, the more and more I began to realize it was all a fiction people told themselves because they feared death. I feared death too, but I feared it because I felt it was absolute nothingness. Just like before I was born, death would be the end. No conciousness, no afterlife, just nothingness.

It isn't just nothingness at death. I had a couple of NDE"S, I died for a couple of minutes and was not able to be revived. I was out of my body watching everything and then merged with a greater I AM awareness. It was more real and vivid than life as we know it on earth, as if earth life was the dream. We awaken into the fullness of Pure awareness, Pure unconditional love. It's almost like how we wake up from dreaming while we sleep and then we realize we were dreaming. We know we were dreaming and that our daily life is reality. At death, a similar thing happens. At death, we awaken as if out of a dream, into a greater reality than we could ever know while embodied. This has nothing to do with the brain lacking oxygen or dying. Our awareness expands beyond mind/brain/body. It is a quite astounding realization.
