I wish you'd inspect Capitano for 3 hours and 47 minutes up close everywhere for a video for us all to see but we can't all have what we want Beerevity
0:27 this actually has an interesting explaination. Etymologists recognized a historical pattern where the upper class percives lower classes as uneducated. Like the word "mediocre" which used to just mean average, or villain which came from the latin word villainus (which literally just means farmhand)
As a linguist, I can confirm this. The concept is called semantic drift (a word or phrase shifting meaning) or pejoration (the definition getting "worse" like amateur not originally being insulting). Mid, due to the usage online, people are starting to view it as "bad" and "good" is slowly overtaking the meaning of "mid"
@@j_ravioli6154 I even think I might know how it happened. About a decade ago people started using "mid" (from what I saw in the anime community at least) in the "it's bad, but I don't wanna explain myself or get into an argument about it, so I'm gonna sugarcoat it a little" way instead of in the "eh, it's somewhere between good and bad" way. It became so widespread however that people eventually caught on that usage and started directly assuming that's what people mean by it. Especially when it comes to CCs and other famous people online who people generally assume don't want to get into needles arguments and drama. Again though this is just from my observations of the anime community as a slice of the internet.
That's so interesting, I thought it was an inside-joke thing online, didn't know it had actual history. If there's more where that came from, learning some etymology could benefit content makers to stay out of drama
The problem with, most honestly, creative works (as in, creation of any kind: Video, games, music, streams etc.) is that a lot of people stopped perceiving those who create them as "people" and only care about the product and that it should cater to them. Even outside of Content Creation, the fact there are still people who blame VA's and asking for actual Ai to be implemented just cuz they don't get voice-overs in 1 language. And, personally, i also really dislike how nowadays, people see and use "companies" as target of hate for anything related, when, usually, it's still people. There could be bad and greedy people at the top, sure, but doesn't mean everyone below them on the ladder follows in their footsteps. I guess, what I'm trying to say, is that the world seems to be loosing nuance nowadays
You are a rare breed of viewer, and for that, you have my respect. I understand the hate that the community sends to Hoyo (Especially the drama about Natlan), but I've always supported the devs and enjoy the game none-the-less. Am I disappointed that characters don't have voice lines? A little bit, it breaks immersion, but when you understand the situation it brings a new meaning. I just think it is rediculous that the community itself is asking for AI just to make sure that their *clears throat* "waifu" isn't talking 24/7/365. Anyways, respect to you, and here's to another great year of Genshin and watching the wonderful creative world unfold :)
100% agree with you on everything. It breaks my heart when people keep saying "Hoyo is a billion dollar company, why are you defending them?" when it's the artists, writers, devs, programmers, musicians, etc that work so hard on these games, that bring ideas into a beautiful medium that we can experience. The fact that people are so willing to slap the CEOs and company logo over the faces of every worker just dehumanizes them. And it makes my blood boil to see people WANT AI to replace VAs just so they can have the voices. The hateful, greedy personalities they pin to the companies is no different in that regard of selfishness. It's good to see that there are some respectful people who haven't lost their humanity towards others. Hopefully comments like yours will help remind them that it's not just the company behind it, but everyone that works there as well.
Absolutely agree to your take. Sure, is the game perfect ? No, no game is. Is the Dev sometimes dumb ? Yes, and they admitted it. You can hate it, you can find other games better but don't try to praise another game by disrepecting the other, like why ? At the end of the day all devs work like crazy to give good content. The tribalism is crazy nowadays.
Him and a few other creators out there, it's so sad. Like, it takes so much energy to be mad about everything all the time. I feel so bad for those people, they'll never live a happy fulfilling life.
Sadly it's not just Genshin fans, but seems to be every single gacha game out there now. Every now and then I see someone from other games come out of the woodwork and be like "wtf" when it comes to the gacha wars. All of online gaming needs to chill...
@@F1ll1nTh3Blanks As someone who also spends too much time on the internet and has my whole life (thanks to my parents not giving af) I hate that excuse, I do understand its easy to be influenced by your surroundings but its also easy to simply learn not to be an ass and treat people nicely
i really hate how even if you DO say something looks bad, people think it’s okay to attack you for having an opinion lmao but then they’ll go and hate whatever. i find that people like that are just insufferable to be around, you enjoy something and they hate you. you dislike something and they hate you
I wish there was something we could do about these nuts in the community. But sadly they are here and they go on the attack on a whim. An opinion is an opinion. Let the man talk.
@ me too, it’s unfortunate but these people exist in every community, it’s just more noticeable in hoyo communities because they’re so popular and attract so many children and (this might sound bad?) mentally ill people. i have no idea why
Thx to internet, or I mean it was just humans being humans all along, we kinda got to a point where tech made us more stupid in majority, it's like nobody has their own critical mind anymore, everyone living off of everyone's elses opinions that are divided usually between two groups or sides of topics or beliefs that disagree with each other
People just hate, if you find something fun and say it's enjoyable people who don't enjoy it will hate you, if you find something bad then people who find it good will hate you Feels like everyone just wants to become an amorphous blob that has the same exact opinion
It’s completely normal to disagree with people’s opinions, not everyone thinks the same. For me personally, I like the 5.4 patch, it looks really interesting but that’s just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to having their own opinions on certain things
Agree wholeheartedly. The whole Marco situation made me sad cause he’s clearly really passionate and honestly I’m happy that he’s moved on, people being assholes ruins way too much.
I really like how you say your opinion and stand by it, you're honest, its one of the things I love the most about this channel, one of the things that keep me hooked. I always watch your lives to see what your opinion is about that topic too, I am always happy to agree or disagree with you.
C6'd Mavuika after complaining about the practices tho; no content creator especially in the exploitative gacha space is genuine. It's all an act for money just as the company making the game is.
@@sudiptaday7875 ? He did that because he made a tweet saying that if a mascot of something (forgot who it was) replied saying something he'd C6 the pyro archon once they came out, They replied and he kept his promise.
Usually, the X.4 of any nation is a downtime patch. Put in-between the end of the Archon quest so we can have a break from all the action until the usual Dainsleif related stuff comes around.
@@Prism988 well I certainly do coz I have a life outside of the game and lore dumps one after the other can be exhausting to digest and compute on it. And Dainsleif doesn't need to hold my hand the entire time for me to understand the lore. He's just a guest appearance of some sort.
This is a great point and I don't watch BranOnline that much but I HATE how toxic our fanbase is. It's so cool to see someone major in the fandom call out the bad eggs. Cool, man. 👍
I think the issue with the usage of "mid" is that there are people who uses it as a negative thing, as an insult/attack, so I think it inevitably invites others to think anyone saying something is mid means it is bad or negative, even if you may not actually mean it that way. Sometimes how a word is perceived and what the definition of that word might be are different, and it leads to situations like this where you can say something is mid but you don't mean it in a negative way, but if someone who's only seen mid used as an insult will see using that word as someone being negative because that's all the association they've had with that word.
Irrelevant At the end of the day it's an opinion and no one should be attacked over an opinion Words only hurt if you let them People need to grow the fuck up and stop being whiney little bitches over trivial insignificant things
There's no way he didn't know mid is used in negative term, he knows it. He just gave his honest opinion. 5.4 was trash, he isn't interested in it. Just get over it and go away from the channel. We will get more wuwa content atleast
Bruh, I use mid for middle as well. I didn't even know it was negative 😯 To me, "it's mid" is the same as "it's middle of the road" or "it's fine" or "it's normal".
Even if he said it's fine or okay or even 7/10 there are still people who would take it as him not liking it since he wasn't at their preferred extreme.
agreed with 99% of this video. The 1% is the nitpick that mid simply doesn't mean average anymore. It obviously should... it obviously used to... but language changes all the time-you can't fight that-and the internet basically just changed it into an insult to throw around at everything that's not the 10/10 thing they're trying to sell you on. If you use the word 'mid' today, its the new meaning that most people will see.
Yeah, I'm getting this a lot. It's something I've always grown up to know mid = middle, not great not bad, so I'm just kinda... Ingrained to use it that way, and honestly I doubt I'll stop, since it's proper definition. But maybe need to be more clear and concise with what I mean. But honestly, even if it did mean bad, the rest of the video's points still stand and it's ok for a patch to be bad to someone if you think it's good! (I know you weren't saying it's not ok, just saying for anyone else reading this too)
Words still have meanings though. Just because people are ignorant to word definitions doesn’t change the meaning of the word instantly. Language doesn’t just instantly change to fit a vocal minority’s opinion. If that was the case, then very definition of the word “middle” itself would change and that’s not going to happen anytime soon lol. It’s a stupid term to begin with though and I just wish we could stop using it all together
@@BranOnline maybe begin using the swedish word, lagom (jk). It means "just right" and tbh the 5.4 is kinda that. it is a "just right" filler patch. Nice return to Inazuma. Mizuki story quest sounds good, new stardard 5-star, event sounds alright. Even an event where we retun to multiple other nations and chat with old playables.
Preach, I'm just glad that you don't change yourself for people like that, its so tiring for me to see how so many people think in black and white and I can't even imagine how bad that must be for youtubers like yourself. You're my favorite creator and whenever I finish something in genshin I can't wait to watch your gameplay of it and I love hearing your opinion, I hope you keep having fun making content, love you you absolute legend🙏🏼❤
This is absolutely why I have stopped posting anything about Genshin. You can't voice an opinion that is slightly negative without being attacked or told you are just playing the game wrong. It is wild and I've never been a part of a community that is this way, it is very unfortunate.
Every game nowadays. I remember recently Sean (Jacksepticeye) posted he would not play Deltarune Chapter 3 Because he was annoyed by the fans telling him he was playing it "the wrong way", as well as he thought he didn't enjoy it as much as Undertale. The Internet response ? They told him he was D-head for saying Deltarune was worst than Undertale (which again, was only HIS OPINION) and for not playing it for them.
I agree with you Bran, except for the fact that in most people's minds the word "mid" has an overtly negative connotation, so when people see what they want to see and perceive your rating as negativity, then they respond in turn with more negativity. Idk if thats correct at all, but its just my assessment of things lol.
That's interesting, I've always interpreted mid as not awful, but not the best either. The middle between both sides of the "how good is it?" spectrum. I thought everyone thought that way. Like when I say this is a mid patch, I'm still going to play, new content to me is still usually fun content, but I never saw anything I was truly excited for in the version meaning I'll probably just be playing catch up with world quests and old story quests. A bad patch to me is when they add gameplay updates the majority of players do not like (the best I can think of is that minor update of nerfing Neuvillette's spin which wasn't exactly a patch, but you know I mean). I think the internet, specifically the haters and drama makers, need to chill out and enjoy what you enjoy without interfering with others. Anyways... HYPE FOR 5.5! JUST AROUND THE CORNER GUYS! DON'T FORGET ABOUT IT! START THE HYPE TRAIN! WOOOOOO! 🎉🎉🎉 (this is how I've been joking with my Genshin friends for the past few hours)
Then what word should we use to say that something is in-between? Not amazing, but also not terrible? Because it's not black and white, and I think people are foegtting that, which leads to them percieving any rating that isn't 10/10 as negative and hateful.
Honestly who cares? If he says it's terrible? Does that change anything? It's his honest opinion and if anyone thinks otherwise he can just disagree respectfully instead of getting triggered for no reason These people are just crazy , they think they can control people's mind and honestly we need to stop giving them the space to and just ban them Like wtf why do people get angry at someone saying his honest opinion respectfully in his own canal
Meh I play Wuwa, HSR, GI, IN, ZZZ etc. And never intentionally interact with the communities cuz they ruin everything, I just enjoy the silly CC and the games, as it should, ppl taking these games seriously, need to touch grass asap
THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS YEAR THAT I’VE GOTTEN A FRICKING SCARE. AH. But thank you for actually speaking your mind. Very appreciated. We all have opinions and it’s okay to disagree lol some people don’t entirely understand…
the whole marco situation upset me really. guy is passionate about the music before everything else, didn't really enjoy playing genshin anymore and moved on to something he loved more. that's it. grow up man. really think him ditching twitter was a smart move.
@@williamwood5566 marco meatball, ex opera singer. gives really insightful and enthusiastic reviews/reactions to all kinds of music including genshin, he also voiced dvorak. all around great guy
I, for one, welcome a "mid" patch rn. I'm still catching up with new content in HSR, and ZZZ just dropped a bunch of new stuff too. And I spent so much on Natlan characters, not just my money, but dropped below 10 million Mora for the first time in YEARS. Currently at only 2 million Mora,so I could easily use the next 6 weeks to refill my Mora and other resources I deleted on so many new characters and weapons. A "mid" filler patch is welcome every so often, especially for veteran 1.0 players, and we all, okay most of us (snark) have irl social lives too.
I'm so behind in ZZZ and HSR so I agree that a chill patch is nice to have. I don't think I could handle all three of these games dropping massive updates at the same time lmao
Same for me. I want some time for 3.0 and more in HSR. Also, I'm trying to build like 6 characters right now. I'd like the time to save some primos and character materials ^-^'
So true my friend. As a fellow player since 1.0, this filler patch is a very welcomed one. A downtime after heavy story quests is really good. Still need to catch up with other gacha games as well. 😄
i think u are completely right. Imo it goes both ways alot. either people want are angry at anyone who slightly criticize the game, and people that are angry at everyone who likes something about genshin. Both fail to notice that there is no "objective right" nor any opinion everyone should have, ESPECIALLY when it comes to games/movies and entertainment in general. I like that you are just honest with your opinion and dont try to appeal to one of the sides of the loud minorities of opinions.
I agree. It goes both ways and neither side wants to admit it. I personally still love the game even in it's flaws. That doesn't mean that I think that everyone is wrong to criticize it.
Agreed. Mid doesn't mean back. It's just okay. And everyone is entitled to their opinions. Except Tectone. He just shits on everything and everyone for no reason.
Could be culture difference but in my area I have NEVER heard someone use ''MID'' to equal middle. Even the highest rated definition on Urban Dictionnary will say that mid = poor quality. Myself I love that patch, And even if you said it was bad, I dont care, you can have your opinion lol. Haters need to chill. If they hate someone they dont have to watch lmao.
@@BranOnline The reality here is you are BY FAR the outlier so using it in that way is not going to ever portray what you think it does because that's not how the general parlance especially online works. Even amongst the far less online/normie friends I know mid is a very heavily negative connotation word that in the past 5 or so years especially does not even mean close to just "Average"
@@kingkiller14000 Idk man, most of the people I know use it correctly, maybe it's different types of people we interact with, but mid for me has always meant middle, I've explained this so many times over the years too, especially in regards to me calling demon slayer mid (hot take apparently). I think the animation is 10/10 amazing but the story is very predictable and messy, I rate it a 6-7/10 overall and call it mid
@ Hard to say tbh because I've definitely largely only heard it with more negative connotation which is why I've basically stopped using it because its just a shorter way to say average. A second point I'm not 100% sure because youtube is loving flooding me with your old shorts so idk how newer ones are since i never go to anyone shorts in specific but just scroll sometimes and for some reason the algo really likes giving me old af ones for you. But I think there may be some issue there because no offense but you do sometimes really just waffle on a about a point before really either finliazing your thought or idea so the kind of nature of clips can really make it seem like with just that short section that you either love or hate something.
I think it's pretty normal to have a mid patch or two, between the super cool patches, I mean devs also need to take time preparing for bigger updates or so on, it's also good to have like, a little break from the chaotic and crazy updates, it's a chance to touch some grass :D I'm fine with it, I mean I'm not really excited (except for Wriothesley) but that doesn't mean I hate 5.4 or say devs did bad job, cmon. I think it's healthy to take a break, that's all. And Bran got a point, couldn't put it better myself
But the thing is I think genshin could do more man, I'm sure they can do it. Idk what's wrong with the team that develop genshin. They keep making the same thing over and over. I hope they can be more creative especially with a mini game on the event or around the teyvat. Most of the minigame totally the same to each other just different design. I hope at least they will change once we finish Sneznaya because after that they don't need to focus on creating a new nation. They only focus on story so most of the employee work to make this game better.
@InstanRamen maybe they're saving the great stuff for a bigger update, or maybe they're already working on something! Ngl , genshin devs always did great job in the game, you can notice how they improved since day 1, it's like Bran said, they're humans after all, not robots
Bran, js know I’m sure a bunch of us completely agree with you. Genshin drama is deadass just everywhere. Honesty - in all opinions - is valid. I completely agree with you and I’ve never understood half of the fandom for mixing up words, even people I’ve met IRL can barely respect my opinions on the game and characters. Thanks Bran for speaking up!!👏🏾
@@Zodia195 Yep, at this point in my life I've long since adopted the attitude of "As long as someone isn't actively hurting another person, let them enjoy whatever they want. Doesn't matter to me." It's allowed me to shrug off a bunch of things that other people get offended at. Some people seem to make it a major point of their life to make others miserable though, for whatever reason.
I love you for this vid. That’s one big point why I dislike social media in general. Humans are not meant to be around so many people at once. Yes, we are social beings, but just to a certain extent. Being exposed to an immeasurable amount of people, we have a hard time to both be fine living with compromises and really FEELING that our own opinion is valuable and heard. In fact, this lead to loose the ability to discuss things constructively. We lost the ability to communicate. Even if that sounds weird.
I adore the game, but majority of the fandom makes it hard to interact with anything involving it. I've seen death threats and worse because they can't take slight criticism. They find anything to complain or get angry about. I'm glad someone like yourself actually speaks his mind and doesn't say things just to make people happy.
When you criticize something you're a hater, when you like something you are a shill. There is no winning with these kind of people when they see everything in extremes. I appreciate you being honest regardless.
I genuinely appreciate you, Bran, exactly because you aren't afraid of expressing there is something you don't like in the game. It's simply unrealistic to be constantly excited about EVERYTHING and it's always refreshing to see content creators that don't keep glazing the game no matter what
The Genshin fandom honestly need to learn to just take criticism and opinions of the game as...well, AN OPINION. Not everyone is going to agree with you, and that's okay! Just don't exaggerate what they says as "geNsHiN iMpaCt cOuLD nEveR 0/10" or "geNsHiN iMpaCt is SOOOOO peRFeCt 1000000/10", and DEFINETELY don't harass them for it. If it bothers you that much, just simply ignore it 🤷♀
@@had-sd4hsI think they meant it in a negative sort of way. Like “Oh boy, can’t wait for TECTONE…..Yipeeeee” kind of sarcastic, but also wanting to see what kind of see what bullshit he’ll do next.
So well said. I just HATE it when I like something people turn me down. If I dislike something they turn me down AGAIN. LIKE BRO!! WE ALL HAVE OPINIONS! Criticism doesn't mean: "I hate this game, everything sucks"
Actually, imo, Bran himself lately has been kinda harsh or not exactly careful with his words, as he's been before. Now I get why, cuz people that communicate with him, not necessarily his subscribers, do it too, they often don't exactly think what they're writing or addressing content creator, but it affects him as much as any other human being. So I agree with every word you said in your video, Bran, I hope you continue making content for your subscribers who care about you. P. S.: I think 5.4 is just a filler patch, it could've been better, but it could've been much worse, so it is what it is. Some ppl just need smth to get whiny about.
Definitely true, like I said I've learned to just care less about the way people talk to me about things, and in turn I guess it HAS effected how I also talk to people who are coming across rude to begin with. Sometimes I take things wrong, and clarify any mistakes, sometimes I'm rude, and apologise if it wasn't their intention, but honestly, it's better than being passive 24/7 and taking everything on the chin! Appreciate your insight
@BranOnline it's totally okay to be mad at people that make you mad. I lived my whole short life (21 yr) thinking that I need to take every word personally and accept every insult because there was a reason for somebody to insult me. There really isn't sometimes, and if you have to stand up for yourself, than it's amazing if you do. You, as a content creator, are allowed to have your opinion, and nobody is allowed to shit on you for it. Fuck them and keep enjoying doing things you like.
It good to know that it was nothing serious like life threatening. Ppl actually need to chill like they hate with the majority. Most on the time the majority is ACTUAL BULL
I wanna also reiterate by saying people can have any opinions they want, but it doesn’t mean it’s a right to shut down the opinions of others if they don’t match your’s. It’s saddening how the state of the internet has corrupted our perception of each other.
I play Genshin Impact for the fun of it, for the quests, characters, cut scenes and if someone said something about the game that is bad, that's their own opinion, they can't make it seem like everyone hate the same thing they do, some who might think the same, might also say they don't care about what happens, if someone said something bad about Beidou, I won't care, all I care about is playing Beidou on my own time... What people miss is that they aren't able to control everyone around them, and end up throwing reason out the window, and start crying on X, whining about how Bob hates Keqing and "ooh how dare they do such a thing" like okay? And? Am I not allowed to say that she isn't that great to me and my preferred gameplay?
Just because a word has a definition does not mean that is what it’s used for. That is literally the entire reason linguistics exists. The meanings of words change drastically with the passage of time. They must do so in order to facilitate whatever meaning the current age wants the words to mean; because surprise surprise, all words are made up and just cause you don’t like the way the majority uses it does not mean you get to dismiss it or say that it’s wrong That being said, the community being morons and crying about the next update not having much substance or being a dry patch or being a filler patch has been a thing since the start of 1.1 which is when I started playing. I really don’t see the points of videos like these where creators complain about the way the community is reacting and I also don’t understand why people continue to complain about dry patches as if they do anything at all. Hoyoverse has made it abundantly clear that they can and will do things for the benefit of the community but only when it’s to the company’s benefit, which is what we observed with the sudden rush of QoL changes after Wuwa started gaining massive popularity
This is why I'm subscribed to you man. Love your insights as always, regardless whether we agree on the same opinion or not because it offers varieties of perspective.
Honestly, I'm just surprised that we had a new version livestream. I thought we would have next month. How do they schedule these streams anyway? And yeah, I agree. Calling something mid doesn't mean it's bad, and everyone has an opinion, regardless of whether it aligns with yours or not. And I'm glad you brought up Marco, he's had it rough being in this community
You're right, the stream was supposed to happen on Jan 31. It got released early bc the Chinese New Year will be next week, so the developers can't work
Bran you scared me wither the title but yeah you’re right about this people should stop thinking that “mid” means something is totally bad it’s up to you what you think it really is
"Mid doesn't mean "bad"." THANK YOU. LOUDER NOW. Gosh, you got that in the comments, telling you you were terrible with the devs?? Oh, the irony. Because I've been seeing the same people don't hesitate to trash Genshin, claiming it's worse patch ever, "the game is getting worse", and if we bring up the main content then they counter with a "it's trash"... And then they compare the game to the Almighty Saint Wuthering Waves (which got like 2 fillers patchs following 1.1, had to give away free characters to attract players, has BIG fanservice since day one... But no one said a word) I may shock people, but Genshin never has been a "masterpiece". The storytelling is clumsy (always has been), the pacing uneven (always has been)... But the lore, the world building, the graphics, the music? Astounding. There's good and bad. And it's okay! They improved a lot the past 2 years, and if there's nothing to do in the game then... they can play something else. They're not forced to play Genshin 4 hours a day (especially that, when it's the case, the same people will rush the content, gorge themselves without restrain, and then complain there's too much to do). I wish your voice could be heard louder, because this is an important topic.
I absolutely agree with you. So many people (usually, with nothing to do) twist everything said or massively disagree in a horrendous way. I love Genshin, it keeps me going with my health, but even I have never given a patch a 10. Everyone has their own opinions and all should respect these opinions. I find so many people so critical - all I tell them is "get a life".
I never understood people hating on a content creator because they're playing other games. Like... "Oh nooooo my favourite content creator is having fun playing something else!!! That means I must send threats to them because they have betrayed us!!!!!!!!!! ".... Wtf is wrong with the community and not letting others have fun
Thanks for addressing these things. Given that these were one of the reasons I started to dislike engaging with the Genshin Community. I have been bashed when I thought I gave legit advice, just because they were very different from Meta is very heartbreaking experience of mine. Huge respect!
The community getting offended on the developers' behalf has always been the stupidest thing ever. If Bran (and a lot of other people) say that the update is mid, it's not an attack on the developers, jeez. You can really see the children of the community during times like these
You know, mid can actually be awesome. I was incredibly disappointed by Natlan so far, because I had been too hyped before it. But when I know something will be mid, I can't be disappointed. Knowing what to expect feels like a welcome break to me from all the - as you correctly put it - madness out there. On another note: I loved the calm pling pling music in the background. Fit the rather heated mood so well lol
Spitting facts here. Most people are either glazing the heck out of genshin now or straight up sh*&^ing on Natlan but at the end of the day there are just some things that are MIDDLE GROUND. Genshin can still be a fun game, or maybe it's not for you anymore. No matter what the case, people get to have their own opinions and those opinions don't have to "great" or "horrible" Sometimes they can be just, to quote Bran here, MID!!
Mid means not bad but also not good. It is not a bad thing but with the recent anime community (especially powerscaling) started using it as something bad.
People need to get out their houses more, to be this upset over someone else’s opinion of a video game of all things is not normal. You literally can’t dislike things anymore even if you’re respectful about it. Sad sad world fr. You keep doing what you do!
Seriously. Its not a crime to find something "Fine". Not everything has to be a breathtaking masterpiece to be "good", and mid or fine is still good, just not perfect. Acceptable and fine.
This is why people are so insufferable now a days. It feels like we have gone back to caveman logic when it comes to cause you gotta fall to either extreme and it's just ruining entertainment cause if you bar is so high all the time you are basically setting yourself up to be disappointed in everything
No problem Bran I don't really mind 😂. Even if I ever say anything negative please never take it seriously. I just like to say whatever is on my mind and then people try to cancel me for things that I didn't even do
There are two things I've noticed about internet culture these days. First, everything has to be extreme. It has to be PEAK, CINEMA, INCREDIBLE or it has to be absolute trash and terrible. People act as if when something isn't good that it must mean it is bad, which just isn't true. We've lost a lot of nuance on the internet. There's no more middle ground as evidenced by your point that many view "mid" as trash simply because mid isn't good. I don't know if this way of thinking can be fixed as it stretches across all of internet: politics, entertainment, sports, etc. The second thing I've noticed is that people have become weak to criticism of their opinions. People will disagree or give an opposing view to their opinion and those people will feel like they are being attacked when other give actual points. That isn't being attacked, that's a conversation. Others will take things personally when their favorite things are critiqued. These are just things I've noticed. Overall, I agree with your perception that next patch is middle of the road but I also think it is quite interesting when compared to those types of patches.
Good points. I think this is a consequence of the current internet and culture/media landscape of now compared to ages ago. A good comparison to start with i beleive are shows. It used tobe that we didn't have that many "good enough to maybe watch" shows on the limited livestreams which is why basically everyone was watching the heavy hitters like Breaking bad and Game of thrones. So superfans were drowned out of their misguided blindness of criticism by the majority who actually care to improve mistakes. Now because the number of shows balloon-ed to a insane proportion there is no person rich enough (because the insane number of live subscriptions you need tobe able to watch every show) and has enough free time todo so. This fractured the potential viewer base making the loud minority a bigger chunk of the acutal viewership. Even for anime I can see that alot more people watched the first season of AOT than ones who watched Frieren even though boths are era changing because people were overwhelmed by other shows as well during frieren run. My last comparison is surprisingly enough sports. Sport fans discussions were known since the early days tobe toxic considering the more IRL stacks compared to fictional media (some ppl even bet money on the matches outcomes) but its known nowadays its becoming even more toxic online and offline compared to years eailer for many sports including both football, American football, hockey, basketball...etc. This was mainly due the matches now divided to increasingly different and expensive streaming platforms that now it takes tons of money to watch every match live. This made the "casual sports fan die" as many people now just watch post match highlights which would lead to lower drive to join any discussion compared to someone who watched the action live. This made it so now the majority of people sending hate and death threats after their team lost being the super fans who are no longer being drowned by the other more sensible comments. I am sorry for the avengers level yap i just wrote but i find it fascinating in how only a few years a few factors made it so the Internet is now tranformed into many different echo chambers even though its the same extactly people who were using the Internet prior just by the simple idea of them only getting shuffled around in different disconnected communities.
Genshin Impact is the tallest tree in Gacha Community so all sorts of birds flocks to it and it has to face the harshest of winds, you get to see a lot of shit while dealing with so many birds, it doesn't feel good buts it's inevitable...
This is such a great video. I wanted to say that filler patches are great and people tend to forget that having a filler patch only means that they will stack the next upcoming updates, because just from the road map and all the ingame information, we can guess that they will add updates/ expansions with Mare Jivari, Iansans tribe, the giant Volcano place, Skirk, Dainslef, Mavuika 2nd Quest, continuation of Och-kan/ our saurian WQ, Iansan/ Varessa Tribal quest, Mondstadt Quest bc of Dahlia and so much more in the span of 5.5-5.7. It also seems from how I guess that we won't get a summer event cause of Alice's room in Simulanka, where a script was teasing about the potential Story in Nod-Krai/ Snezhnaya. we had a worse situation back in 4.5 with the only main event being the alchemy event and then the release of 4.6 with Arlecchino and Remuria, so this patch was genuinely better than previous filler patches. I think they made 5.4 a filler, so that people can chill abit and be able to catch up to the current standpoint of the story, since FOMO exists in this community and maybe because of CNY, where they have a week off. Besides, doesn't Hoyo always have a filler patch to increase the hype for their other games like HSR and ZZZ and in reverse for genshin. People be forgetting that too. Tldr: filler patches are needed sometimes, so people can actually touch some grass and hoyo always used filler patches to promote other games from them.
Thanks for your opinions. Of course, it is not to make me and like-minded players hate the game. It just makes me angry that a company that makes millions of dollars every month is trying less to develop other games and not adding proper content to the game just because they want to release a new game. They don't need to introduce new characters or create new regions for a filler patch. If there will be a filler patch, they can at least make in-game improvements (etc.skip button, dungeons with development materials that we can get every day). Also, why did they reduce the number of wishes they will give in this patch, just because they gave a little too many wishes in the previous patch? That's why I don't want a company that doesn't value its players (only tries to get money from its players) to make so much money. I want the players to understand this, and I want the games that try harder and value their players to come to the fore. It drives me crazy that players don't accept these and argue that the company is right
This is exactly why I stay in my lil space and like what I like instead of listening to people try to say it’s bad to like something just bc they personally don’t🤷♀️ video games are meant to be fun and bring others together but unfortunately there’s too many negative individuals in the space that do the opposite. People need to understand that opinions differ bc everyone is different from each other
I'm just withdrawing from most communities. I'm so fed up of the wider communities and the drama. I'm fed up of clickbait thumbnails and titles, I'm fed up of people going too far against CCs like they're not real people, I'm fed up of VAs getting shit on and players just enjoying their games being aimed at... Jfc its so damn tiring.
@slahser game doesn't suck. I love Genshin, I'll criticise the hell out of it. I'm just fed up of people around it either shitting on it or making it blameless and the Hoyo community (Yes HSR mains, you're just as bad) as a whole being almost as insufferable as LoL or DBD.
Some people need to touch some real life grass. I am gonna chill out and let myself rest and i might do some event that i like and dip out and wait for future updates. Love ya Bran.
The thing about genshin's community is majority of them can't take even a sliver of criticism. They'll see it as a personal attack to their beloved devs who see them as ones who can do no wrong. So even mid is too abrasive for their sensitive ears.
But you are forgetting the opposite and probably the main problem the people who are just openly insulting people who are happy it's just an okay update cause not everyone wants to feel like they have to play all the time or like the temporary change of pace. Which just damages the community's reputation more than I say shills
the problem of genshin players is that they are too extreme, they will go to lengths as to rent a whole mall for something they like (Furina and Kaveh) and harass content creators for little things to the point they start deactivating their accounts (marco for example)
@@teddyisaliar271 this honestly. and also, most people just silently leave/unsub if the vibes are getting toxic and generally just flock to people who brings more positivity and fun to their interests, if just to share the hype with someone. ofc there will always be a sizeable amount of bad actors within the community, because let's face it -- it's still a REALLY big fandom, and paired with the fact that it's a gacha community, toxicity is sadly an unfortunate reality to expect. tbh as someone said, most people just play casually and are largely unaware to the cesspool of drama.
I honestly don't comment much because I don't really want to deal with internet drama, but I think criticism and what it has become nowadays is something that should be talked about. Just to make it clear, nothing of what I write here relates to anything you said in the patch stream video specifically - I didn't watch it yet so I don't know a thing about it. But what I do want to address is the problem of criticism and just in general opinions that masquerade as "critism" that are becoming rampant on the internet. Fandoms in general have become an extremely hostile space. People who are in the middle have become quiet and mostly stopped interacting with communities altogether, because of how negative the fandom spaces have become due to easy internet access. Every opinion is polarized to oblivion. You either love a piece of media or hate it, but if you hate it, you must attack it. In turn, those who love it also constantly feel the need to defend it and it has become a knee-jerk reaction. The amount of video "essays" springing up all over internet is not helping the situation. Constructive criticism consists of pointing out the positives as well as negatives, including suggestions on how you would change things to make them better, but they all focus on either fully positive or just completely negative. Today, so many people believe their "critique" is one all be all. I haven't been to one Genshin video recently where there hasn't been a constant inflow of comments of "WuWa is better" or "Honkai Star Rail is better" in some context or another, following up with an occasional insult of "Genshin players don't shower/are predators/can't read" passed off as a joke. I'm sorry, if you have absolutely NOTHING to bring up to praise your piece of media without putting down another piece of media, then your piece of media doesn't have all that much to offer. The behavior has honestly put me off from those games and I have no intention of ever trying them at all. To make it worse, criticism in the comments is often times more than not simply regurgitating an opinion they've heard somewhere online, and I bet if asked to tell what specifically they didn't like, they couldn't actually analyze themselves what it is. That's what critical thinking is, and critical thinking has long since been dead. People no longer have the necessary attention span for it. Social media has given content creators a space to have their voice be heard. That's great. But by doing so, egoism it promotes has also made it so everyone NEEDS to be heard, and they need to be heard IMMEDIATELY. Having an opinion is great. Criticism is great. But most of the time what's happening online isn't criticism. It's hurtling insults at each other, people making themselves feel better than they actually are as they surround themselves with yes man so they can get the instant gratification of having their opinion be validated, nothing more. Currently, I'm in about 3 fandoms that have become popular to hate recently. I can guarantee, wanting to share your passion with people online because you don't have as many people to share it with in real life has become just as exhausting. You can't go anywhere online without people regurgitating the same. Tired. Negative. Points. Over and over again, and once challenged to elaborate on it, the response is always "it's just criticism, I'm allowed to critique if I don't like something." Criticism is a veil people have started to hide behind in order to be able to shit on things others enjoy and make themselves feel good in the process, nothing more. Did I enjoy everything Natlan has to offer? No. Did I enjoy it regardless? Yes. I can't help but roll my eyes when I see people suddenly glazing Inazuma's story, when it was just as hated as Natlan is currently, just to make it a point that Natlan was bad. Natlan wasn't bad. It wasn't mind blowing amazing, but it wasn't bad. It was okay. It was enjoyable. In the end, enjoying the game is what matters to me, so if I enjoyed it, it achieved its goal. That being said, the thing that I'm most excited about in the next patch are characters appearing in the overworld, especially with the mention of it being a sort of test run. I hope they make it a permanent thing. Characters appearing in overworld to make it feel more alive has been something I've wanted in the game for a long time and something I wrote into almost every survey I filled out. :)
It's insane to me that this needs to be said lol. Agree with pretty much everything you said. but on the topic of why i commented Where is the Pokemon channel? OMG
this has been yapped about enough its just a bunch on content and twitter drama, just keep playing and doing what you want, i get why you feel like you need to adress this but the more content creators stir the flames for these gacha wars the more toxicity i get in my feed, this isn't targeted towards you and i get your not the cause but i just want to be able to look up stuff about the games i like without only seeing manchilden crying over which one has better what despite them all being free games... :(
The reason I love your content is because you're a very reasonable guy. This video says things I think for a long time. I personally like those filler patches because it gives me time to breathe and play the game more casually. This makes me appreciate the game more when things get hype. But I don't get why be mad about a content creator saying it's mid, or even saying it's bad. There are CCs that have opinions that diverge too much from mine, I just don't follow them anymore, but I really hate how people will just say whatever is in their heads without filter. Anyway, love your content man!
Yes but Bran, don't you understand? If you have a different opinion than [TINY BUT SUPER LOUD MINORITY OPINION], you're actually a schmuck who doesn't play the game, doesn't know what you're talking about, and your opinion is invalid, because it's different to [VERY LOUD MINORITY OPINION THAT IS ACTUALLY WRONG]? Obviously.
The state of this fandom is straight up depressing rn. You enjoy something? You get labeled a "hoyo bootlicker". You're not happy about something? You're labeled a hater who doesn't like anything and forces themselves to play just to complain. It's like people have forgotten that it's very possible to love one thing and criticize the things that you dislike about it. It's like people forgot how to think for themselves anymore, they need to wait on someone else's opinion to see if they can form their own, it's honestly quite disturbing it's gotten this bad. I'm also not really looking forward to 5.4 for few multiple reasons but that doesn't mean I'm a goddamn hater, I still enjoy this game and have been playing it since it came out in 2020. People are allowed to express their dissatisfaction with the current state of things and they shouldn't be shut down just because they're "ruining the vibes". If some people enjoy the updates, great! More power to them! But I see absolutely no reason to put down people who come up with legitimate criticism about the game. I personally don't really vibe with the direction Genshin's taking lately but that doesn't mean I'm gonna quit, simply because I enjoy the lore and some of the characters too much. And even if I decided to quit, my decision shouldn't affect anyone else ffs, it's a personal choice and my personal opinions. This turned into a longer rant than I intended but I'd like to thank Bran for being one of the few content creators who have always been upfront and didn't sugarcoat anything. I've been watching this channel since around 2.5 or so? I don't really remember but not too long after he had just started out. There were few things here and there I didn't agree with but that didn't mean I don't enjoy his content, quite the contrary! I'm happy to hear differing opinions from mine when I know it comes from a place of genuine love for the game we all enjoy here. Or well, at least try to. (Ngl, the worst thing about genshin is mostly the community🫥)
its thanks to people like this and those types of activities that i quit genshin. I started playing other games similar, but avoiding the drama. The natlan story really showed the colors inside the playerbase, people are threatening VA's, content creators, devs and MORE just because of a story quest. I find it almost comical how many people go overboard over these things, rlly.
@@gmnobrega0704 most people don’t understand nuance. Its Either Black or White- Red Light Green Light- Good or Bad- OR Yes or No. or thr Tiny brains get mixed Signals. 💀🪦
I think it’s a good thing for especially Hoyo gatchas to have slow periods. Some of us play 2 or more of their games, and having the intensive and, for lack of better word, “peak” moments be staggered is a good thing, actually. Gives players the ability to focus on each one without getting burnt out by trying to keep up with all at once.
Let's be honest Natlan was and is a very mid patch : The story was ok but not great with a random filler patch in 5.2 that didn't have to exist. The exploration content is just... awful, 2 relative small maps in 5 PATCHES. If you set aside some questionable personality/character changes in Citlali all the characters are alright (didn't get that much attachment to some of them but I won't blame the strike for that, they're in their right). The decision to kill Capitano just to align with the stupid new policy "only 1 male characters every 2 years now" is completely stupid just like their policy but "oh well, the game isn't selling that much anymore... so MORE WAIFUS... and BATH HOUSE". The game is in the middle of a very very mid region and people shouldn't be afraid to say so !

@@j_ravioli6154 i didnt know there was a name for this, thank you!
@@rowanscornerhappy to help! I rarely get to put my degree to use 😂
I guess, what I'm trying to say, is that the world seems to be loosing nuance nowadays
it was always been like this
You are a rare breed of viewer, and for that, you have my respect.
Holy wokie pokies. Those people blaming VA for the strike is so ass though 😂 shameless
I like how Bran has to correct/raise Genshin fans in place of their parents

Well, that's what happens when they live on the internet. The rules are unfortunately different here and these people know no better.
Sadly it's not just Genshin fans, but seems to be every single gacha game out there now. Every now and then I see someone from other games come out of the woodwork and be like "wtf" when it comes to the gacha wars. All of online gaming needs to chill...

Irrelevant
At the end of the day it's an opinion and no one should be attacked over an opinion
Words only hurt if you let them
People need to grow the fuck up and stop being whiney little bitches over trivial insignificant things
It also feels like some are just entitled to the best and nothing below it.
There's no way he didn't know mid is used in negative term, he knows it. He just gave his honest opinion. 5.4 was trash, he isn't interested in it. Just get over it and go away from the channel. We will get more wuwa content atleast
Bruh, I use mid for middle as well. I didn't even know it was negative 😯
To me, "it's mid" is the same as "it's middle of the road" or "it's fine" or "it's normal".
I agree with you Bran, except for the fact that in most people's minds the word "mid" has an overtly negative connotation, so when people see what they want to see and perceive your rating as negativity, then they respond in turn with more negativity. Idk if thats correct at all, but its just my assessment of things lol.
Right, the word is derogatory and it’s silly to pretend otherwise. Not saying the hate is justified tho, people need to chill.
It's his honest opinion and if anyone thinks otherwise he can just disagree respectfully instead of getting triggered for no reason
These people are just crazy , they think they can control people's mind and honestly we need to stop giving them the space to and just ban them
Like wtf why do people get angry at someone saying his honest opinion respectfully in his own canal
@Diane_666 Yes, that's what I was saying. Because the word in and of itself isn't bad, it's people's perception of it that is.
Meh I play Wuwa, HSR, GI, IN, ZZZ etc. And never intentionally interact with the communities cuz they ruin everything, I just enjoy the silly CC and the games, as it should, ppl taking these games seriously, need to touch grass asap

Yes, that's why i respect people spending their time enjoy the game rather than go on internet and do stupid thing.

THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS YEAR THAT I’VE GOTTEN A FRICKING SCARE. AH. But thank you for actually speaking your mind. Very appreciated. We all have opinions and it’s okay to disagree lol some people don’t entirely understand…
Bran I swear to God...
Okay glad it wasn't anything super serious.
the whole marco situation upset me really. guy is passionate about the music before everything else, didn't really enjoy playing genshin anymore and moved on to something he loved more. that's it. grow up man. really think him ditching twitter was a smart move.
Who’s Marco, I’m curious now

MarcoMeatball, I take it?
I'm at 2 million mora too, with a Lan Yan to build and an Archon to crown. Help!
omg and i'm here having only 20k mora left i'm cooked😢
i think u are completely right.
That doesn't mean that I think that everyone is wrong to criticize it.
the ad before the video is playing im scared :(
edit: okay he's low key spitting bars
Agreed. Mid doesn't mean back. It's just okay. And everyone is entitled to their opinions. Except Tectone. He just shits on everything and everyone for no reason.
*bad, not back
It's what gets him the clicks, and he does it shamelessly. I can understand that.
ok? why?
Teccy is loving Wuwa and ZZZ right now tho. Especially after the Evelyn physics👀
@@hash6680 there is ''shameful'' about what he did. what else would he call the patch other than mid when it is actually mid.
Maybe, honestly no idea, I use mid for middle rating ALL the time and always have, if I think something is worse I'll use different terminology
@@BranOnline I always thought of mid as a synonym to "okay". I mean, it's mid as in middle.
I think it's pretty normal to have a mid patch or two, between the super cool patches, I mean devs also need to take time preparing for bigger updates or so on, it's also good to have like, a little break from the chaotic and crazy updates, it's a chance to touch some grass :D
I'm fine with it, I mean I'm not really excited (except for Wriothesley) but that doesn't mean I hate 5.4 or say devs did bad job, cmon.
I think it's healthy to take a break, that's all.
And Bran got a point, couldn't put it better myself
Not every patch can be a 4.2 goddamn.
yess like it’s fine to have a “filler” patch to chill out lol
But the thing is I think genshin could do more man, I'm sure they can do it. Idk what's wrong with the team that develop genshin. They keep making the same thing over and over.
I hope they can be more creative especially with a mini game on the event or around the teyvat. Most of the minigame totally the same to each other just different design.
I hope at least they will change once we finish Sneznaya because after that they don't need to focus on creating a new nation. They only focus on story so most of the employee work to make this game better.
i so agree, everyone there would get burnt out so fast and the quality of the update would look and/or sound as good.
Thanks Bran for speaking up!!👏🏾
Really, a lot of people need to think about the saying, "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all."

FACTS! PEOPLE NEED TO CHILLLL! (I'm being serious)

So well said. I just HATE it when I like something people turn me down. If I dislike something they turn me down AGAIN.
LIKE BRO!! WE ALL HAVE OPINIONS! Criticism doesn't mean: "I hate this game, everything sucks"
You say something simply looks mid, you get attacked. You say something looks good or great, you get called a shill. It’s a no win situation.
Major props for being a respectable educated
Well mannered man bran
Gacha tribalism is absolutely insane, especially in the hoyo space
Just because a word has a definition does not mean that is what it’s used for. That is literally the entire reason linguistics exists. The meanings of words change drastically with the passage of time. They must do so in order to facilitate whatever meaning the current age wants the words to mean; because surprise surprise, all words are made up and just cause you don’t like the way the majority uses it does not mean you get to dismiss it or say that it’s wrong
That being said, the community being morons and crying about the next update not having much substance or being a dry patch or being a filler patch has been a thing since the start of 1.1 which is when I started playing.
I've only ever seen 'mid' used as basically 'you suck'. I can see where people might have interpreted it wrong.
It got released early bc the Chinese New Year will be next week, so the developers can't work
@@MiyuKawasakicrazy thing is people instigate and started saying it was because "players were unhappy wwith natlan so its damage control"

But no one said a word)
I may shock people, but Genshin never has been a "masterpiece".

"Why can't these content creators just face the consequences of their opinions???" - some Hoyo fans I saw in a comment section a couple of days ago.
It’s sad that we’re in a generation who takes the term “mid” seriously.
0:20 True i see sm people getting mad at others bcz they have their own opinion whether its abt religion, a game, a movie etc.
Internet fandoms are known to create problems where there are none. People are way too oversensitive these days.
No problem Bran I don't really mind 😂. Even if I ever say anything negative please never take it seriously. I just like to say whatever is on my mind and then people try to cancel me for things that I didn't even do
Just wanna say that chill out shirt is so fitting for the video whether its intentional or not xD
Also i just think mid as okay in the middle ground.
@agiant5715 You're good 😂 You included anime and sports, two of my favorite things, in your yap so you had me engaged the whole way
Awesome Rant in the best meaning of rant. Everyone has their opinion and we need to respect that (and respect doesn't mean share that opinion)
AMEN
This patch is like you said, nothing groundbreaking.
Hey man, I enjoy watching your Genshin videos. Keep it up, and don't let anyone let you down. :)

I think it's the opposite
the problem of genshin players is that they are too extreme, they will go to lengths as to rent a whole mall for something they like (Furina and Kaveh) and harass content creators for little things to the point they start deactivating their accounts (marco for example)
But it’s not majority, it’s literally just a vocal minority. Most casual players don’t even know about what dramas are happening in the community
This 100%
It's insane to me that this needs to be said lol. Agree with pretty much everything you said.
but on the topic of why i commented
Where is the Pokemon channel? OMG
PokeBran!
I wish people could just be nice to each other. I am sorry people were being all curmudgeonly at you. Love your content! ♥️♥️♥️
It’s crazy that this needs an explanation 😒sometimes this fandom irks my spirit……..
Thanks for this video. I think it is a very important thing to talk about and you did it in a very honest way. :)
this has been yapped about enough its just a bunch on content and twitter drama, just keep playing and doing what you want, i get why you feel like you need to adress this but the more content creators stir the flames for these gacha wars the more toxicity i get in my feed, this isn't targeted towards you and i get your not the cause but i just want to be able to look up stuff about the games i like without only seeing manchilden crying over which one has better what despite them all being free games... :(
The reason I love your content is because you're a very reasonable guy.
Obviously.
This is scarily accurate
OMG YOU ABSOLUTE GENSHILL HOYO D RIDER GENSHIN BAD WORST GAME EVEEER😡😡😡
(not really)
Well said and valid. People need a callout sometimes
Mid means mediocre. Not good Not Bad. Which feels bad when your used to Amazing. Which is my *Opinion* of Natlan vs Fontaine.
And here I thought this was common sense. I'm surprised to see it's not the case.
Cant wait for " this genshin creator got harrased by his fans by playing Genshin impact" reaction by tectone
Oh now we got the number one hoyochill attacked too what a community
Let's be honest Natlan was and is a very mid patch :
The story was ok but not great with a random filler patch in 5.2 that didn't have to exist.
