I started with a neck survival kit but once I started thinking about survival realized I needed more, I need things that cover a couple days, so my kit kept growing to cover Shelter, Insulation, Rain Protection, Food, Water, Hygiene, Fire, First Aid, Navigation. Survival Kit grew to 11 pounds to cover day & night basic necessities. My minimal shelter is Poncho in plow point, Mylar Bivy Bag, Inflatable pad; reflective mylar requires an air gap to work so I stick an inflatable torso (Klymit X-Lite) air pad in the bivy as the air gap to absorb reflected radiant body heat.

Absolutely! The little sling bag I had on covers a lot of that stuff. Go check it out if you have some time. I definitely agree! The neck knife would be for the crazy off chance I lose absolutely everything and only have what's on my body. Stay safe out there! Thanks for watching! 👍

I have seen others who also have based their neck knife set up on Cody Lundeen's . I saw one that had a setup very similar to what you have he added a mylar survival blanket wrapped around the knife also. That's the beauty of this kind of setup, there can be endless variations on this.

The mylar blanket sounds like a good idea. Seems like the bulk adds up really quickly, which is why I chose the Ferro rod and the Whirlpak bag. Tons of possibilities with something like this. Thanks for watching! 👍

Brilliant piece of kit & I like the idea of having everything on hand for immediate use. This will give you a winning chance in an emergency to continue on. Too often people forget the few tools we need NOW to survive a situation.

Thanks! I really enjoy these little kits. It's definitely comforting to know that at least you have a little something on hand in the off chance something would go wrong. Thanks a lot for watching!

Great video!! I have Cody's book, Imo, I think it should be considered the starting bible for survival and required reading!! The book focuses on basic survival and survival kits, and how to use those kits, tho not necessarily a technique based book, it will teach you alot. Cody bases the neck carry from his time spent studying from Mors Kochanski, the style of kit is totally his tho. I have carried a Mora 510 in this manner with a kit on it for years, and have to say that it is a very effective carry for me. You always know where the knife is at all times, and it is accessible with either hand, which is something that is hatd to accomplish with a belt carry, unless you carry it on a crossdraw position. I have heard the argument that with the knife in such a position that if you fall orwhatever that the cord could snag and choke you and such, but I have never had that happen. Some ppl are biased about Cody, but whether you like him or not the man knows his stuff!! As far as the alteration of the kit, that is something Cody himself actually recommends, make it your own to your needs!! I have made a main kit based off what he suggests in the book and use the neck kit as a last ditch kit in case of loss of the main kit and yes, I even added a couple of things and subtracted a couple of things by his suggestion,to make it relevant to my needs. I even find it useful as a get home kit and even as a lightweight bug-out kit, its also useful as a economical cache kit due to it relatively low price. Cody even talks about it in his book that once you assemble it and learn how to use it, that you realize that it's not just for wilderness survival. You should definitely get the book and read it!!

That's awesome! You just sold me on buying the book. I've always liked Cody ever since I watched Dual Survival. He definitely does know his stuff. I have a great deal of respect for him. The neck knife kit is new to me, but I'm definitely gonna be using it a lot more to get comfortable with it. I've heard that argument about it being dangerous, but I personally think that the odds of something like that are miniscule. Thanks for this comment and thanks a lot for watching! I hope to get many years out of this kit! 👍

I'm just not a fan of Cody lundin. I also noticed you walking around with that neck knife flopping around. Not a good idea. I know I seem to be critical, but when it comes to things like this, safety is my priority when teaching others. Something could make that knife fly up and smack you in the face, you could be sliding down a hill by accident and catch that on a limb and choke yourself. Nothing wrong with having a neck knife, it should only be used around camp. Meaning once you get where you're going, then put it on and do what tasks you wish.

I've heard Dave Canterbury say something similar. Definitely something to think about. Maybe wear under a shirt or jacket. Thanks for the input and for watching! 👍
