They would have had to change substantially. Lots of their traditional products disappeared (like records, as technology changed) and the supermarkets beat them on price. B&M is quite a different shop to what Woolworths was back then. Woolworths was more like a department store.
Nope. Those kinds of "variety" shops that Woolworths were are particularly out of date (hence the reason so many department stores are also in trouble now). They don't do anything where you can't get it cheaper or find even wider variety online. Even back then, they were beaten on price by the supermarkets, and other parts of their traditional market (like selling records) disappeared as new technologies took over.
The excitement of having blank cassettes for Christmas
1981 to 1983 had awesome xmas adverts for Woolworths
Blimey this takes you back.
I remember this advert being played in the cinema
before Octopussy
and Never Say Never Again started, in 1983.
Contains the Little Miss Episode:
Little Miss Trouble
Apparently there are still Woolworths in the US. But it’s not Woolworths without an Eric Bristow dart game,
They got a Woolies in Australia, a bit like ours were, but posher
Christmas 1983 me and my brother got a zx spectrum 48k. Thank God my parents didn't go to woolies.
Woolworths Advert love louis shirley
Bless them...they could have stayed open like QD & B&M they just didn't adapt. A shame as they could still make a good buck now 🥺

Woolworths was a department store, not a warehouse like B&M. Larger Woolworths even had restaurants
Them were the days 😪
At 0:23 that’s Suzie Birchall from Coronation Street 😂
Vectrex. Great stuff.
Vectrex in today's money , £400.
They'd have stayed afloat if they'd stuck to keeping variety of products their watchword.
