David, I love all your UA-cam classes! Your classes are awesome and I’ve referred a number of people to your channel to learn more about anything Apple.
I appreciate the effort. Instead of going through this complicated process though and risk getting important mails pushed into that junk folder you could just scroll to the end of the emails and hit unsubscribe. Thats it. Done. Also when u sign up somewhere just uncheck the newsletter tickbox. That way you dont get any mails you dont want.
Man! My mail was not working as I was used to. Came back to this class and found out my rule was incomplete. Why? Don't know, but now it's good. Thanks.
oh my God.Thank you very much, David! I had emails in archive for the last 3 years and was trying to delete them manually by clicking on trash icon. had a rule to delete at least 100 per day. with your help delete in sec today.!!! will watch all your videos. Back to school!
Hi David, I just bought a refurbished MacBook for my new online business ( not open yet), and I’m really happy you popped up when I had a question. I’m not tech illiterate, but no way am I savvy either. Thank you fir all your help. I’ll just subscribed to your UA-cam channel. Thanks again
Awesome video! I am sharing with my 83 year old dad, who just got his first mac (has had an iphone and ipad but never an 'real' computer. He wants and needs your lessons! Namaste
WOW....Thank you, David your Lesson was very helpful. My Mailbox was a massive clutter and needed a great cleaning up and now it is going to be cleaned in a simple and easy way. Thank you, thank you, thank you
You are definitely my apple guru guy. My brother told go with apple. Like all things there are ups and downs... you seem to navigate all apple’s quirks as they come along! Thanks for your dedication! FYI... I’ll be calling for lessons.
Dear David, I am an occasional viewer of your clips - but all of them have been very educational. I want to thank you for your generosity and wish you a joyous christmas, Wolfgang
Rules & Filters: Things I had completely forgotten about from back in my Y2K Windows Days. Thanks for the reminder, I just moved out a ton of clutter. 👍
Hi; Can this Rule be made into a Smart MailBox? I have several Mac computers that use the same email address and I would like to have this rule performed across all devices automatically? Thanks, Keith
Hello! You are so helpful. Say I want to just use my GMail from the Google website, and get rid of Mailbox app which is taking up so much space. What would happen if I dragged Mailbox to Trash and then emptied Trash? I am so short on space. Thank you.
Excellent Video. Just one question. If I add this rule to my mail app and I have 4 different mail accounts set up does it scan all my mails from all my different accounts and applies the rule?? And I already did this from watching your video but from what I see it only moves new emails... Is there something to do to move read emails to this junk mailbox I created?? Thanks,
Do you have one that explains the archive box. Seems like everything is in there stuff I already saved into another mailbox and stuff I want to delete. I am not sure deleting the mail in the archive box will delete mail that I had saved. Do I make sence? Thank you for you videos!
Great info and videos!!! I bought a new Mac book air and I do not want to migrate from older Mac. I would like to specifically move over “Mail” and have it just like I had it on my older Mac. Is there a good way to do this?? Thank you so very much for any help.
Make sure the mails are deleted in Exchange if you're using it. Note that the search includes Bin folder as well. In case you search for deleted emails it may reappear. You can uncheck the Bin option from Preferences > General > Bottom most option to not include in search.
Never had a MacBook before but this video help a lot. Thank you :-) Just wondering. You say that I can click on the first mail and click shift and all the emails in between will get get selected. Can I somehow select different mails without the mails in between gets selected? Hope that you understand what I mean.
Email in your inbox is only for email where you are on the TO: line. All other emails (BCC'ed or CC'ed) should go into a folder called "Inbox - CC." How to do it on apple mail...help plz!!!
Hi! Great feature, now i just learned how to do it right :) Now the next question is, if i have one emailadresse that i would like to exclude from the rule, can i do that? :)
LIFESAVER !! however, I have the same problem i see from another person commenting. When I select a group of emails to be deleted only about half of them delete and the rest stay. In other words , i have to keep re-deleting some of the emails I deleted. Do you know why this keeps happening ?
Wow!!!! Such a clear way to teach!!! But too bad, I don’t use my MBP anymore... I’m an iOS user.... Would you consider developing a serie of videos pertaining to iOS (app to clean caches and stuff, best practices...) Have an awesome blessed season David.
For Gmail iMap, So it is working great to move new messages coming in, but all previous junk email is not affected. Is there something else I need to do to make that work?
I use separate client mail boxes. When they are old I want to archive them. How do you archive “mailboxes” with the entire contents to an archive location without commingling all client emails. In other words, how do you retain the separate integrity of each mailbox contents upon archiving?
Excellent tute. Happy Holidays🥰. Been attempting unsuccessfully to schedule a private lesson, but am on the West Coast and am unavailable mornings. All afternoon slots on your calendar are shown as unavailable through the end of January 2019. When can I schedule an appt with you? If you are not available in the afternoon, your time, can you recommend someone else I might contact? Thanks much.
Great video. I was looking all over for a way to organize my inbox better. While I like the Smart Mailboxes option, it doesn't quite do what I want. I want those emails to be moved out of my main inbox like having different folders in Outlook. I can do that with the Mailboxes option. Then just add those to my favorites and change the "unread count" and "notifications" preferences to "All Mailboxes". Now I can still be alerted to new emails that are only going to show in those folders or "Mailboxes" :) It is unfortunate that you can't apply the rules to your whole account though. You just have to do it on one device like your Mac and it will sync across the others as long as your Mac is online.
David, I have a question. Is there a zoom in feature to view my inbox mail or any mail in the mac mail app? Because some mail that I receive are hard to see on my computer screen and I realize there is no zoom in feature in mail app.
Thank David and a happy new year from Holland. I have a question. in this class you add the emailadresses to your contacts. it would be better when you add the emailadress to a certain group within contacts. So you can filter this emailadresses from the adresses form your family etc etc. otherwise your contacts will be garbage in time.
David, I bought my first Mac in 1994 so you could say I’m familiar with the platform. You are the go to for the most straightforward and useful Mac help that I can remember. Thanks for all you do. Happy new year.
Thank you so much for all your help throughout 2018! Your videos over the years have been so invaluable in my learning how to use my MacBooks but in my transition to all things apple, my iPhones & iPad Pro. In a previous comment, I told you how I once used PCs, Android phones and Android pads. After changing & being totally lost. I was so lucky in finding your videos very quickly. You not only make the videos informative the energy you put into each video entertaining. I wish you a Mery Christmas and Happy New Year. Phil..
Hi David, I had just one question related to mac email, where (hard drive wise) all my email stored (I am asking this question as I don't want to use my hard drive space so that is why I don't use my email program).
Wow this is something I’ve been looking for, very good informative video. I would rate it a 10 on just this first video I saw from you. I definitely will look at and how to donate! Thank you.
I have 7 email accounts in my "inbox". Can such a handy rule be applied to just some of these accounts? My wife has an account that has become quite large as she reads an email and keeps most of them just sitting in her inbox. I would like to leave her inbox alone... and apply your rule to the other accounts on an 'as needed' basis. I would then continue to go thru the approximately annual pulling of teeth to work with her to get her inbox down to a more reasonable size.
new to apple and would like to thank you for how you explain things in limens terms you have really help me with some things I could not do. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Rules tab, wow, never would have tried it w/out your vid, thx David. I use iCloud, but not for my Gmail. Is that wise? I figure all my Gmail is already in the free Google cloud. 🤷🏻♂️ Thx
You can setup rules in iCloud and they will apply to your inbox even if your Mac is powered off. Everything on every device receives the rules at all times.
You make the best videos!! You're awesome for sharing these for free. Ive learned so much about Final Cut from you, it's insane. I wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Double check that Rule: I think it should be - If ALL of the following are met. With ANY specified you will move emails from senders in your contacts that you’ve not emailed before, and move emails from people you’ve emailed but are not in your contacts; not quite what you were hoping for.
Thanks for the video it was very educational. but I wipe off all my mail or better I found them on a backup local location within the apple mail program. I think I committed two mistakes when creating the rule; I moved all already received email to the new mailbox and because that's not exactly what I wanted I deleted this mailbox which had all my mail and that the big problem. As it happen my computer turned the fans on and screamed and finally the mail app crashed. All I wanted was to shift a one single sender to the new mailbox. please can you give the step to follow to get this rule set. without get all my mail wiped.

How do I undo this rule? It moved too many emails and I need them in their original mailbox

I love this. Except there is no iCloud to choose on your first step on my iMac ?
thank you so MUCH! i had literally 18k mails.
I’m struggling to try to find out how to delete my emails that I delete them but they keep reappearing in my inbox I have 14,000+?
