1. You don't need to know what kind of native rattlesnake bit you as CroFab is used by most hospitals and works for all native rattlesnakes. 2. There's NEVER any reason to kill a snake, if they really need an ID a good picture will suffice. 3. Rattlesnakes are venomous, not poisonous. 4. The babies have a smaller venom yield than adults and the only reason they might be considered to be more dangerous is because some don't have a rattle yet and can be harder to spot.
I was bitten by a (roughly) 14 incher. Messed me up, and I'm a big guy. Anyway, I did the tourniquet route. It was loose, but it did slow the spread. My lower arm was 2X it's normal size. Anyone saying they're tamer than other rattlers don't know them.
BTW I was bit 7 weeks ago 2x by a juvenile timber at work. I was 8 miles from New Haven in Wilmington NC. I walked into the ED within 30 min (my boss took me). as soon as I got out of his jeep and walked in my lips were tingling. They got me in stat. By the time my boss parked and got into the room I was violently throwing up. My wife was 45 min away. When she walked in the room I was pouring sweat, puking all over myself and didnt want to move because everytime I did it sent a wave of the wierdest sensations through my whole body. My blood pressure crashed to 70/40 and I was struggling to not pass out because I was afraid I would convulse and scare the poo out my wife (she is in healthcare herself and worked in EDs for many years). I was thinking how strange it would be to die from a snakebite. There were 10-15 people running all over the room and they got the CroFab in me within 1 1/2 hrs of the bite. If I would have gone anywhere else I think I may not have made it . New Haven has absolute pros running the show and they saved my life (and my thumb). 2 days in ICU with the max dose of CF (16 vials) and another day for observation and I was out. Over 300K bill paid by comp. The BEST ADVICE in this video is, if you live in an area with venomous snakes is to know who keeps CroFab on hand. BTW I also researched who has antivenin for my dogs as well. It could save you, or your loved ones (dogs) life. Thanks for posting this and it is all excellent advice. I hope you have fully recovered. I still have lingering side effects. The strangest being that when I drink I have low tolerance to alcohol and get wicked hangovers. I never had HO before so its really strange
"Take the snake with you"...that is incredibly dangerous advice. Decapitated snakes can still bite due to reflexes. Do not tamper with the head of a decapitated venomous snake. Best advice is to capture a photo if possible.
Glad you are ok. I have been bitten twice by snakes. I lived in a rural area for over eight years. I moved to town and got bit by rat snakes in my yard. I didn’t see them until I was up on them and they hit me. I am just it was rat snakes and not rattlesnakes.

Juvenile snakes are not more venomous then adults they are the same if anything it's the other way around much larger yield of venom from a adult
