      ur supposed to bulk for at least half a year, if ur lean, if ur not lean u should not bulk..u won't gain as much muscle and u will loose more muscle while cutting cause it will take u longer to do it, after im cut, ima prob bulk for 2 years with clean food and adjust my calories as i go to make sure i don't eat more than i should

    Losing muscles is so hard , what you lose when you're cutting is just the water and the glycogen inside the muscle , once you up your carbs you'll see your size again , I'm lost a lot of size I'm cutting

      Yeah dude, I've been cutting since Tuesday. And I'm intermittent fasting.The first morning I woke up after fasting, I had shrunk everywhere, my shirt that I wear to the gym that morning was loose around my arms and chest. It looked like I had no shoulders, like they just sort of blended in the my arms size. But then once I hit the gym and got my calories in after, I swelled up again within an hour

    • @JacobKuba
      @JacobKuba 9 років тому +4

      246madhatter that's good make sure you're not cutting the calories too low and you need to eat a little bit more protein and keep in my mind that you'll lose some muscle through your cut

      @246madhatter 9 років тому +4

      Jacob Kuba Thank you, and yeah i got up to 206lbs. Im eating about 1800-2000 calories a day currently. And i understand that. It was the main reason i was scared to cut for so long, but now, I just forced myself to accept the fact that im going to lose some muscle, its inevitable. And then i tokd myself, fuck it. Even if I drop to 10 stone from 14 stone 10lbs im gonna do it so no matter what size im at, at least ill be ripped. Thats my priority.obviously dropping all the way to 10 stone is a little dramatic. Ill probably be around 12 and a half stone

    I totally needed this right now BROTHER! I’m 5’9” and on July 8,2018 I was 275lbs I’m 198lbs right now and I look SO MUCH BETTER!! (2/29/2019 when I made this post) I lift heavy still & I did notice some strength loss but whatever homie! I’m a 40 year old husband and father of 3 been weight lifting pretty much since I was 15 and always wanted to be huge. Now I want to be cut and light on my feet so I can chase my kids around (12,2&1 year old) and snowboard mountain bike etc.. Like I always have!! I’m never going to be a body builder on a stage so I need to change my mindset!!
    The only other thing that fucks with my mind is all the youngsters in the gym that are MASSIVE! Lol I’m not stupid and I fucked around with anabolic steroids when I was younger but god damn sometimes I feel myself start hate on them in my head when I’m training hahaha I need to stop that shit too! I’m a natty now and have been for 20 years.

      What happened? I'm sort of in that stage right now. I did a bulk up to 190 lbs. from May to October (I'm around 6'1). Now I've lost weight from October to December, and I'm around 173-174. I look like a normal skinny fat dude again. Should I keep cutting? I already feel like I've lost a ton of weight for my height, but I still can't quite see my abs.

    • @djaceman123
      @djaceman123 9 років тому +5

      Mark Mac Just because you bulked up, it doesn't mean you bulked up all muscle. In fact, you probably didn't gain anywhere close to what you thought you did muscle-wise. A lot of the weight was probably water, fluid and fat, and only a small amount was muscle. The danger with bulking is that it reaches a point where you're not gaining lean mass as quickly as you were at the start and water gains and fat gains happen MORE quickly. So if you bulk for too long, often it can become counter-productive. My advice would be to go down to 166/167 and bulk up again for a couple of months. Then cut for a couple of months. Then bulk. Constantly switching it up will ensure you are never too small and at the same time, never too fat.

    • @vikingemcee1242

      *****
      I can cut weight easily and I can gain weight easily (up to a point). I have never weighed more than 195 lbs. and that was hard to get up to (eating tons of calories and lifting weights). But even though I cut down to 163 lbs. I still can't see any abs, except the top 2 FAINTLY when I'm completely flexed. I still have a round belly, that sticks out a couple inches even at this low of a weight and I'm around 6'2. So I'm not sure what I'd be classified as.

      I got the flu really bad in January (right around the 2nd), and I didn't get over it until around the end of January. I couldn't eat for at least a whole week, and when I stepped back in the gym, I found out I lost muscle and strength. I'm down around 165 lbs. now but I'm still not happy with the results.

      I actually agree with you. Unless you surpass a long long long period of time without eating anything, will make you lose muscle, but you could fast for 2 weeks straight and only drink water, and you'd still maintain all of your muscle mass.

    • @jackmurphy6510
      @jackmurphy6510 9 років тому +1

      Mark Mac If you didn't do anything strenuous you'd maintain a lot, though there is still basal catabolism. If you damage muscle though, the alanine cycle turns free amino acids into keto acids, glucose and urea. Nonessential aminos can be synthesized, but you'll need a source of essential amino acids to fully maintain the muscle.

    LoL i cant stand the type of big dudes that think they are all big N shit, and act all cocky walking like tuff guys showing off big arms, but yet they have 30 pounds of fat in their bodys, and they are also the type of dudes that retain alot of water in their bodys also, and sure they look big, But they dont have all that much muscle to be real, its mostly fat and water on TOP of those small muscles they got.
    I have way more muscle then them weighing only at 175 pounds of solid lean muscle. Fat free. Thats a quality physique.

    Eat enough protein like you would do when you bulk. Eat about the same carbs or slightly less. Just don't eat any added fats. And when you do like for example salmon steak, than skip your carbs and eat lots of veggies with it. All the fat you're not eating, is all the fat you'll drop. And sugar is the worst thing in a diet, even fruit makes the insulin rise like hell. Don't eat banana's or apples but eat citrus fruit instead like oranges and only for breakfast for a max of 2-3 pieces of fruit per day. (and spread it out if you cant resist it) Do this combined with an hour walk in the morning or a 20 min jog and you'll melt fat away like crazy. Also wheat and pasta is basically the same as sugar and will make your insulin rise. Go for complex carbs only for the whole day and spread it out over 6 meals. This way you'll have less hunger and optimal fat burning metabolism.

    I did a cut because I was getting fatter. l went from 185 down to 150, and I didn't lose any strength, I actually have continued to get stronger, but now I do look kinda skinny. I definitely look more ripped, and have great definition, but I've lost alot of size in my shoulders the arms. So how do I get broad shoulders and big arms while staying lean and ripped?

    Elliot don't get me wrong when I say this, because I admire you. Your philosophy runs close to mine and I appreciate your ability to put yourself out there. After ten years of hard heavy training and being strong but fat, and strong but very lean, I have to respectfully disagree with fasted cardio. Myself I save the cardio for when the fat loss stops regardless of change of macronutrient volume. It's been said by coaches fasted cardio is for lifters who are geared up, and after so much trial and error I agree. I like doing my "cardio" if you call walking that, on a neutral stomach. Burning but not full.
    As all of us who desire strength also want to salvage our muscle while getting lean, I figured it's worth throwing the argument out there. Again I love your youtube channel and always look forward to your videos! Take care.

    Speak for yourself El, by the way my cutting experience is going, i'm either going to kill myself before its done, or look like a fucking twig by time i get their, i lost 10 pounds and my arms lost a half inch + i'm nowhere near seeing my abs yet, by time i'm done ill have fucking 11 inch pencils.

    • @B9King937
      @B9King937 10 років тому +33

      It's because you don't have a lot of muscle. If you had a lot of muscle than it would show underneath the fat.

    • @UnKwn95
      @UnKwn95 10 років тому +4

      Lol my arms are 16, when you start cutting you're glycogen levels deplete due to you're diet and lack of carbs, when that happens you're muscles aren't as swollen and as pumped as they usually are. When you reach 12% body fat and under is when you get all you're cut and you're abs show (which i'm far from), i never said i can't see my muscle i said i don't look nearly as swollen and as big as i used 2 and i feel like a fucking twig.

    • @B9King937
      @B9King937 10 років тому +6

      You must have a lotttt of fat on you since you're far away from 12 percent which means your arm is going to lose a lot of size. I cut almost 30lbs so far and my arms lost a tiny bit more than an inch. And your abs don't show at 12 percent all the time unless you have a lot of muscle on your body. My abs don't show unless I reach about 8 percent or so. Depends a lot on your genetics too.

    • @UnKwn95
      @UnKwn95 10 років тому

      not a lot but before i started working out i did nothing but party, drink and smoke so i was skinny fat, instead of cutting like i should've i immediately began bulking which was a huge mistake i'm probably 15% i don't have calipers so i wouldn't know exactly.

    • @B9King937
      @B9King937 10 років тому

      If you're 15 percent you're above average. You don't have much ways too go. Keep it up drop to the single digits. Also I just noticed this now, you said carb depleted. I lost 30lbs so far on a high carb diet. Carbs are extremely good for cutting weight. Complex carbs that is. Speeds up metabolism, they're an appetite suppressant, increase fat burning enzymes. Low carb diets are such a myth that need to be squashed. Also you don't need calipers to determine body fat. Use the orbitape or whatever it is called. The tape measure that wraps around your body parts, the flexible one. Go on google type in body fat calculator. Measure your wrists, waists, height, hip, and forearm. Put it in and it'll tell you.

      +petros papatheodorou hey man what exactly do you mean by this? just eating and not worrying about being in a surplus while you keep hitting the gym and getting stronger? what is the traditional way if you care to explain?? thank you man

    • @Pspet
      @Pspet 9 років тому +4

      the "traditional way" is eat the food that you need every day and lots of proteins and also work out hard this way you are gonna be lean and muscular in addition with bulking up where you actually eat more calories that you consume every day in order to build more muscle.it is true that the muscle gains will be higher but you will also gain a shit load of fat that you will need to get rid of once you think that the muscles that you have built are enough but in order to do that you will have to cut down on your daily calorie intake and this will make you lose a lot of muscle alongside with the fat so there are not true gains by doing that

    • @obama8mychickenz
      @obama8mychickenz 7 років тому +2

      petros papatheodorou bulking/ cutting is UNAVOIDABLE if you want to get big and ripped. You may bulk and cut unintentionally when you eat your "traditional" diet.

    Elliot. Great video, I have only been going back to the gym for just over a month but in that short time have noticed my muscle coming back. I am 42 years young lol and starting to feel happier in myself. The one problem I have is I can lift the weights do the sets but find it real difficult to do cardio. I seem to find myself hitting the rowing machine because I hate to run on the treadmill. I have to my annoyance put on weight but have lost size as everyone has told me I look better. At the moment I am around the 237 mark. I still have the love handles but I am working on these. Would I be just better off now for a few sessions trying just cardio. Keep up the great work you have helped me find myself again and I am becoming a more balanced human being.
